Born in California, grew up in Ireland, moved to the Bay Area in 1988.

I'm the author of 7 LGBT-themed novels, including "Time of Grace" and "Elsie Street." Two recent books are set in England in the 13th century. "A Knight's Tale: Kenilworth" explores the events of the Second Barons' War through the eyes of a squire, Will, living in Simon de Montfort's household. Book 2 was published in March 2018. My most recent book is "Return to Carlsbad," the third book in the Elsie Street contemporary MM romance series set in San Francisco (and Southern California).

I have published some nonfiction works too, including a memoir, "Connecting the Dots: My Midlife Journey with Adult AD/HD," soon to be released as an audiobook.

Since I've been here for 25 years, I've seen and experienced a lot of change, and it seems like a good time to put some of those transformations (both personal and societal) into a book.

Basically my heroine, Sheri, meets the first woman she ever loved again, after 18 years apart, and her ex, Mitch, is now a transgender guy, an FTM. It's not autobiographical (in the sense that I've never dated a trans person), but the intensity of the situation intrigues me as much as the social comedy of it. I'm interested in exploring how something that couldn't work the first time around (because of youth, dysfunction) could possibly work the second time around. Or not...(less)

Thanks for asking the question. I hope to write the third and final book this year and I've already started thinking about the plot. The trick is to push the material where I want it to go without displeasing readers...

Very hard to make this a short review, but I'll try. It was my first Tana French book.

I loved the language and found the story compelling. I like stories about self-deception with unreliable narrators, so I wasn't let down by this aspect of the book

“Only connect!”
E.M. Forster, Howards End

“Wanderer, your footsteps are the road, and nothing more; wanderer, there is no road, the road is made by walking. By walking one makes the road, and upon glancing behind one sees the path that never will be trod again. Wanderer, there is no road-- Only wakes upon the sea.

“Love is the extremely difficult realization that something other than oneself is real.”
Iris Murdoch, Existentialists and Mystics: Writings on Philosophy and Literature

“Time can divorce us from the reality of people, it can separate us from people and turn them into ghosts. Or rather it is we who turn them into ghosts or demons. Some kinds of fruitless preoccupations with the past can create such simulacra, and they can exercise power, like those heroes at Troy fighting for a phantom Helen.”
Iris Murdoch

“It is in our idleness, in our dreams, that the submerged truth sometimes makes its way to the surface.”
Virginia Woolf
