Susan K. Hamilton began her writing journey in earnest during her freshman year at the University of Massachusetts, when an assignment from her English professor prompted her to write her first manuscript -- which went on to become her first novel, "Darkstar Rising" (Xlibris, 2003).

Her upcoming novel, "Shadow King" was a Top 10 Finalist in the 2016 Launchpad Manuscript Competition, and will release on October 2, 2018 from Inkshares.

In 2017 she entered another manuscript, "The Devil Inside"(previous working title: "The Devil You Don't" into Launchpad, ending up in the Top 25. "The Devil Inside" will also be published by Inkshares, likely in 2019 (date to be confirmed).

First drafts and ideas are supposed to be messy, lumpy, full of holes -- and when you read them over, it is okay to ask yourself, "What the (bleep) was I thinking when I wrote THAT?"

The most important thing is to get the idea out of your head. You can polish and fix later -- that's what editing is for. I like to describe my early drafts as my "pinata drafts." When I'm done, it is going to look goofy, but if I hit it long enough and hard enough with a big stick, then something great will come out of it.(less)
