Doug Walsh is the author of the upcoming Tailwinds Past Florence, a magical love story with a thriller twist, inspired by the two years he spent cycling the world. Yes, this is a television series, and I'm on a book site, but I've yet to encounter such a wonderfully awful, loving, realistic, sarcastic, authentic couple in any book. Rob and Sharon are the best people. They are the worst people. And they know it.

As far as fiction goes, I really enjoyed John and Helen's relationship in Brian Payton's "The Wind is Not a River" even though the majority of the book has them separated. The trials they both suffered to get back to one another speaks volumes more than any lovey-dovey romantic scene.(less)

Not on technical trails where I have to empty my mind and focus on the task at hand, but on the swoopy non-technical trails that run through our neighborhood. The fresh air and exercise really helps invigorate me -- I'm often most productive right after a solid hour of pedaling -- and getting outside eliminates the tendency to waste time with Internet distractions. Often, when I'm least expecting it, a solution to my problem will just pop into my head, bursting the blockage.(less)

For me, travel is every bit as important to my writing process as outlining and revision. For novels set in real-world locations, I consider it indispensable. While much can be gleamed from Wikipedia and Google Maps, not to mention travel guides, there’s no substitute for spending time in a given setting. "Some fun!

I enjoyed this book outlining real life adventures of a couple sailing in the Caribbean. It was not what I expected, being a cruise myself I was looking for something different. Well written and nicely descriptive." Read more of this review »
