Ordained Minister, Biblical Teacher, and Student of God's Word. However, this has not always been the case...
I come from humble beginnings, growing up poor in Chicago's inner city. After achieving a fair degree of success, I suffered a major setback. I lost everything I had, and spent the next 20 yrs. living depressed and homeless on the street. Poverty, and marginal living, are things I know about from personal experience. I would probably still be there if not for the “Grace of God.”
Today I write and speak publicly about my experiences from a “Biblical Standpoint.”

When it happens to me I rely on a number of tactics to get through the slump. More often than not... I simply stop, walk away and take a break from the project. If you're standing at a mirror with your nose on the glass it's kind of hard to see your face. By comparison, we can find ourselves too close to a subject to see it clearly. Taking a step back is the only way to adjust the view. What's interesting is the way I try to spend the time in the interim. That's where the laundry list comes in. I spend time with friends and family, catch up on my reading, revisit projects that I've previously walked away from, or start a new one entirely. You can't drive a stick shift with just one gear, and you can't open your mind without moving it around a bit. Leave the box and go sight seeing. It does wonders for your train of thought. (less)

At the same time, giving the potential to reach others, far beyond the limits of time and physical restraint. That's an extension of power. Power to impact and influence future posterity. Being a writer places a lot of ability on the hand of those who use pen and paper... or in today's case, electronic medium. (less)

I remember your struggle,
The battle you fought...
Your days of pain,
And the courage you wrought.
I remember your words,
The prayers you made...
Your cry for deliverance,
For me was made.
God stepped in,
And took you away...
He gave you peace,
In a moment that day.
I remember you passing with dignity,
That moment has made me strong...
Your petition was heard and answered,
And now I can go on.
You expressed yo...

“On Generosity

On our own, we conclude:
there is not enough to go around

we are going to run short
of money
of love
of grades
of publications
of sex
of beer
of members
of years
of life

we should seize the day
seize our goods
seize our neighbours goods
because there is not enough to go around

and in the midst of our perceived deficit
you come
you come giving bread in the wilderness
you come giving children at the 11th hour
you come giving homes to exiles
you come giving futures to the shut down
you come giving easter joy to the dead
you come – fleshed in Jesus.

and we watch while
the blind receive their sight
the lame walk
the lepers are cleansed
the deaf hear
the dead are raised
the poor dance and sing

we watch
and we take food we did not grow and
life we did not invent and
future that is gift and gift and gift and
families and neighbours who sustain us
when we did not deserve it.

It dawns on us – late rather than soon-
that you “give food in due season
you open your hand
and satisfy the desire of every living thing.”

By your giving, break our cycles of imagined scarcity
override our presumed deficits
quiet our anxieties of lack
transform our perceptual field to see
the abundance………mercy upon mercy
blessing upon blessing.

Sink your generosity deep into our lives
that your muchness may expose our false lack
that endlessly receiving we may endlessly give
so that the world may be made Easter new,
without greedy lack, but only wonder,
without coercive need but only love,
without destructive greed but only praise
without aggression and invasiveness….
all things Easter new…..
all around us, toward us and
by us

all things Easter new.

Finish your creation, in wonder, love and praise. Amen.”
Walter Brueggemann

Love like you'll never be hurt,
Sing like there's nobody listening,
And live like it's heaven on earth.”
