BE THE ART DIRECTOR OF MELVILLE HOUSE!

melvillehouse:

Melville House, winner of numerous AIGA awards for book design, is seeking a new art director, to work in-house and be responsible for all aspects of the company’s visual aesthetic. We seek a person with vision and passion, and a deep belief in the ability of good design to represent a mission.

Duties will include cover and interior design of approximately 50-55 books per year — many of which are within an existing series design — as well as an annual catalogue, brochures, and any and all ancillary materials such as posters and advertisements.

Early Saturday reading, single serving short fiction, which I picked up at the paperdarts party at AWP. This story, Letters Between Tortoise and Hare, by Brandi Wells is in-fucking-credible. Find it if you can, I’m gonna be thinking about all fucking day.

You can read it on our website here. :)

Coming up: Fictional Pop Stars

oneweekoneband:

image image

Thank you, Matt!

Next week will be a special one! We’ll talk about fictional pop stars (in movies and television primarily) and the machinations and implications of a fake band making real music — from 2ge+her and Josie and the Pussycats to The Wonders in »That Thing You Do!« and »Harry Potter’s« Weird Sisters.

Your guest host for the week is Catie Disabato. Catie is a columnist for Full Stop, she’s written criticism and commentary for This Recording, The Millions, and The Rumpus, and her short fiction was recently featured on Joyland.

On top of that, Catie knows what she’s talking about because she has quite literally written the book on fictional pop stars. Her debut novel »The Ghost Network« was published this month by Melville House and is about a pop star named Molly Metropolis disappearing at the height of her fame… more on this coming up in a separate post!

You can find Catie on Twitter as well as on Tumblr.

See you tomorrow.

– Hendrik

I’m so excited for my One Week One Band residency next week, I hope you will join me over there.  Besides the bands Hendrik mentioned, I’m also going to write about Velvet Goldmine, Zenon Girl of the 21st Century, Beyond the Lights, Doug, Empire Records, and the universe’s favorite TV show, Empire
