I've loved reading ever since I was tiny and discovered Enid Blyton in a corner of my classroom - The Magic Faraway Tree, anyone?

I'm author of indie YA thrillers, an avid reader, a wild swimmer, and collector of writing titbits and all things bookish. If you want free writing advice or free help with publicising your self-pubbed books, go to www.ellenallen.co and www.twitter.com/EllenWritesAll

I live in the south of France with my small daughter where I am beginning to master the French subjunctive.

The idea for the book came from a nightmare that I had about two years' ago. I woke up in cold sweats because I had dreamt I was involved in a murder at my school (I was 17 in my dream...) The characters sort of developed from there. Emily is made up, in part, by who I think I wanted to be at 17 and what I actually was!

It's my first book so I've learnt so much about how to write in that time.. about the process and what to leave in and what to leave out. I'm writing my second book right now and I'm feeling that the process of writing this one feels much easier; I'm learning as I go along... Thanks for the question! Ellen(less)

[image error]The Sea, by John Banville has been on my reading list for years, ever since it won the Man Booker Prize in 2005. It tells the story of a man at the end of his life who heads to a small cottage on the coast to come to terms with the recent death of his wife, as well as the death of a childhood friend. It’s stunningly written, particularly about feelings...

My god, I made it. Eleanor Catton’s Booker Prize-winning first novel is not for the faint-hearted. It is long. And I mean long. It’s also historical fiction, which really isn’t my bag, but ten minutes in, I was hooked. It’s set in New Zealand in 1866 ...more
Ellen Allen is on page 250 of 848 of The Luminaries: This book is so long. Finding it hard to dip in and out with so many characters. Need to push on. Very good though...

Thanks for accepting! I live in France, so think I have to wait a little longer for the movie here... think it's coming soon though. I just finished the 5th wave last night and I enjoyed it a lot. I didn't know there was a movie in the pipeline, though it makes sense! I'm looking forward to the next Hunger Games and Divergent movies too...

Megs Thanks for the friend request! I love the Hunger Games and Divergent too. Although I agree Divergent went a little downhill with Allegiant. The Maze Runner is great, and so is the Fifth Wave. Did you know there's a movie coming out for both? Well, The Maze Runner came out today anyway...
