Katherine Locke lives and writes in a small town outside Philadelphia, where she’s ruled by her feline overlords and her addiction to chai lattes. She writes about that which she cannot do: ballet, magic, and time travel. She secretly believes all stories are fairytales in disguise. Her YA debut, THE GIRL WITH THE RED BALLOON, arrives September 2017 from Albert Whitman & Comapny.

I spoke with someone who is an above-the-knee left leg amputee (different cause) for both Second Position and Finding Center. I think a lot of Zed's frustration with movement has to do with his mental state of being, that losing the ability to do ballet like he used to do was losing a part of his identity. “People never mentioned in history books still made history.”
Katherine Locke, The Girl with the Red Balloon

“Most of the things we think are selfish aren’t at all. We’re just so conditioned to think that wanting things is wrong.”
Katherine Locke, The Girl with the Red Balloon

“The Holocaust happened not because of one person, but because of many people believing in an ideology promoted by a charismatic man at the right time and place, and millions of people colluding. History is not singular. Events do not happen in a vacuum.”

Rebecca Paula, Everly After

“We’re like dominoes, Beckett and I. I’ve tipped us forward until everything is set in motion. I can’t stop us from colliding. I should enjoy the fall while it lasts. But I know the end is coming too. The quiet. The day where everything has fallen and there’s nothing left but a mess.”
Rebecca Paula, Everly After

“She throws her jeans at me and dives into the pellucid lake, slicing through the water almost without a splash. A church bell rings out in the distance, echoing in the quiet aftermath of Everly’s quick jump into the unexpected.”
