Living in the peace and quiet of Southern Brittany, James Sillwood is something of an enigma. Being the first to admit he might appear to be reclusive, he readily acknowledges the peaceful surroundings at his cottage inspire an atmosphere conducive to writing.
James has not always lived such a settled life. Growing up with a father in the Armed Forces he moved around frequently as a child; living in Cyprus, Aden and various locations in the UK and, at the age of sixteen, he joined a merchant shipping company which traded along the River Amazon in Brazil. If it's a bad day and my imagination refuses to kick in, I'll take a break; go off and do something else and then come back to the writing later. There's no point in pursuing something which isn't going to take off, otherwise I could end up like Jack in The Shining!(less)

Sometimes to plot takes over and situations create themselves, it's a learning experience and your imagination knows no boundaries. For instance; I can navigate my schooner through dangerous waters of the Caribbean, or be cornered by a pack of hungry wolves in the Klondike. And then, when the going becomes unbearable, I can slip off to the safety of the kitchen and make myself a coffee.
