Basically my inspiration came from my own life falling apart and my sense that we always have to find our strength internally. I think being vulnerable IS real strength. The story built from that theme I guess. THANK YOU for your kind words and again I'm so so sorry it took me so long to answer you.(less)

Articles are easier in some ways because they take less time and the reward is pretty immediate, but there is nothing like wrestling with a novel and having it pay off. I have a pretty awful and brutal process so I always feel like I got beat up. It's enormously gratifying to have positive feedback after all the toil and trouble. Maybe someday writing books will be as straightforward as writing articles. Hope, hope.(less)

Writing Light From Darkness Pt 1

Given the fact that the whole world is in a panic over...well...take your pick, this month both of my newsletters will focus on writing from a place of darkness.
It's my thirteenth writerversary. I know because my son is thirteen and I started writing just after I gave birth to him.
In 2004, I moved to New Jersey from New Mexico with my five-month old daughter. My husband had a good job so I didn Read more of this blog post »

“I felt a mix of wanting to kill him and wanting to kiss him at the same time. When I thought of what true love must be like, I figured it must be like this, and not the stupid eighth grade infatuation most girls my age felt. True love includes an equal part of good and bad, but true sticks around and doesn't run off to Vegas with a podiatrist.”

“It's a soft-sounding word, 'never,' but its velvety timbre can't hide its sharp edges...Never pressed down on him. It grabbed him by the neck and shook him. He sucked in a deep breath, sucked in all that never and started to sneeze. Never filled his nose, his eyes, his soaking fur.”
