Indomitable (The Push Chronicles Book 1) By J B Garner

Here’s another insightful review for Indomitable! Thanks for your time and thoughts!

Observations From The Cracked

“Reality is subjective if you only have enough belief to change it!”

~ Indomitable by J B Garner

The first book in a series, Indomitable introduces the reader to Irene Roman, an unlikely super hero. She was forced in to survival which in turn forced her to become a hero. This story reminds me of The Rook by Daniel O’Malley in that the female lead is an unlikely hero. She is intuitive, strong and brave. All the best qualities for a female hero.

What I liked about this book is Garner’s use of words in ways that force us to rethink language. For example, in the story the world is now inhabited by people with super powers. These people are called the Pushed. The concept was a little hard to grasp at first but they were pushed in to these powers by a force that caused this altered state. The reader…

Book News: The Clans Come Out of The Shadows! a.k.a. Heart of Gold is now available!

It’s out!

HeartOfGold

You can get my latest book, co-authored with J. A. Cipriano, now on Amazon! Grab it now and delve into the shadowy world of magic alongside delivery driver and movie buff Frank Butcher! Check out the blurb after the break:

My name is Frank Butcher, and when I got out of my truck to deliver the last package of the day, I never expected to get blown up by anti-magic zealots.

Yeah, you heard me right. I said magic. I didn’t know it was a thing either.

Now, an ancient artifact is the only thing keeping me alive, and to make matters worse, that artifact is what those cultists wanted.

Still, I could have made a run for it, disappeared down into South America and spent the rest of my life on a beach. I nearly did it, but I didn’t.

Why? Because the cultists have offered me a trade. Come to them or they start killing kids.

Book News: SUPER SEKRIT PROJIKT REVEALED! a.ka. Clans of Shadow Series by J. A. Cipriano and J. B. Garner

So, you might have guessed that the Projikt had to do with both writing and author collaboration. Well, you would be totally right!

The full truth is that, since late May, I have been co-authoring a trilogy of urban fantasy books with a good friend of mine and fellow author, J. A. Cipriano! Called Clans of Shadow, the books follow the adventures of military vet, delivery truck driver, and movie enthusiast Frank Butcher as he finds himself violently thrust into the hidden world of magic in the shadows of our world.

The first book, Heart of Gold, comes out on the 28th of July! Check out the cover and blurb below! I’ll be adding this to my Upcoming Books page and links to purchase will go live with the book’s release. The second part of the series, Feet of Clay, should come out in late August. Check it out!

General News: Not Quite Dead Yet! a.k.a. Quick Update Before The Real Updates

To be brief, no, I’m not dead yet.

Horribly, horribly busy, but not dead.

You should all know the reasons why, as per previous posts, but some of those reasons are coming to glorious fruition, as you’ll see in the two additional posts to follow.

The first is the reveal of the SUPER SEKRIT PROJIKT.

The second is some cool news out of Kansas City Comic Con with which I am involved.

Stay tuned!

Lost loves and deadly labors, all are told by the Tale of the Tape!

Nothing is ever constant in the tumultuous world of pro wrestling! On the eve of their victory over the most powerful family in wrestling history, Leilana Ito and Dana Harding look forward to a bright future, but that perfect ending is snatched away when Leilana disappears. Desperate to find her, Dana starts on a country-wide search, spurred on not only by friendship, but something stronger: love!

Meanwhile, Leilana faces a gauntlet of rigged matches, hidden spies, and psychological torture as a ‘guest’ of the Von Richters. Trapped in a city where anything goes and no one asks questions, Leilana puts it all on the line in a ring where each match could be her last.

The clock is ticking. Can Dana find the woman she loves before it’s too late? Can Leilana endure each deadly labor long enough to be saved? Even if they find each other, will Dana find her love to be reciprocated or unrequited?

The Tale of the Tape is the second book of Three Seconds to Legend. The pro wrestling action/adventure drama concludes with The Twelfth Labor!

Book/General/Convention News: The Big Update!

Okay, time to pull away some curtains to reveal what all has been taking up so much of my time. INITIATE THE BULLET POINTS!

New print editions of The Push Chronicles, all three books, are coming out soon in the more popular 5 x 8 inch format, graced with brand-new spine and back cover design by Reyn Ruch, the cover artist of The Songstress Murders, to make the new editions much nicer to have sitting on your shelf!
Speaking of The Songstress Murders, you can read a fresh review HERE. Also, Reyn did an updated cover design and art for Inspector Redmane’s first adventure, so check it out as well!
You may have noticed that I have once again become a fully independent author, with  The Opening Bell  back under my full control and republished on Amazon. The price is back to something reasonable ($2.99 USD as opposed to 6.99) and you Kindle Unlimited folks can now read it for free! The new print edition will be available soon, with the original Felipe de Barros cover art and extra cover design for the print edition by Reyn Ruch as well.
As the series is back in my hands, let me announce that The Tale of the Tape, fully revised with extended material, will be available for pre-order soon. The release proper will be in early August. I will announce the precise date within the week!
In addition to Kansas City Comic Con in early August, I am proud to announce that I will also be appearing at the Pensacola Comic Convention in late August at the Game Space table. I’ll not only be there with my books and witty conversation, but assisting in gaming demos and the like.
Also, I’ll be making an appearance at Necronomicon 2016 in Tampa, Florida, right before Halloween! It should be an incredible experience!
Finally, expect one more big announcement soon about the Sekrit Writin Projikt very soon!  All I will say now is that 1 done, 2 to go!

I’ll be posting details of the new print edition covers over the week and more, so stay tuned!  Maybe even a book review!

Until then, good reading, good writing, and good luck!

Monday Musings: Give and Take, Push and Pull a.k.a. The Art of Collaboration

Collaborative writing is a fascinating thing. I’ve never been really involved with it before the past few months, but I’ve always wanted to try it. Obviously when I was given the opportunity, I jumped at the chance.

Needless to say, it’s been a real learning experience for me. Collaboration means many things to many people and the first step is to define exactly what that collaboration means for, uh, that, uh, collaboration. Who has what responsibilities? How much interaction will the writing team have? Who has final say on things? Who’s footing the bills and who’s in creative control?

There’s a lot that goes into just that essential first step! However, it’s vital to get all of that done, as it makes every other step of the creative process that much easier. After that, if you set up everything well, you get to step into a truly revolutionary creative experience.

There’s one big rule when it comes to the actual writing part though, one that took me a few days to really get down. It’s a give and take process. No matter who has what duties, outside of that vital final call thing, it is something that all the writers are pouring themselves into. Even if one writer has ‘primary’ writing duties, s/he isn’t the sole writer! It’s not called a collaboration because one person’s doing the job, right?

If you ever get the chance to enter a collaboration, I’d wholeheartedly suggest going for it. It’s a brilliant learning experience and, if you make sure to have everything laid out properly, a hell of a lot of fun as well!

Until next time, good reading, good writing, and good luck!
