The Tavern is Closed

Just a short announcement to let you know that Friday Feast on Mary's Tavern is closed through the weekend in celebration of Easter. However you celebrate during this time, I pray for hope, love, and healing for everyone. This rose was the first to burst free from my garden, and I wanted to share its beauty with you. Look for a new recipe next Friday. It's all about the pasta!

The Coffee Pot Book Club Presents "MISSING, Past and Present" by Diana Jackson

Please make welcome the lovely Diana Jackson to the Tavern! We're celebrating her new release, MISSING, Past and Present. I'm intrigued with her latest story, so let's read a bit more... Following the mysterious disappearance of her husband, Dorothy Gibbons, affectionately known as Lady Pink Hat, trudged the lanes around Drumford, homeless and directionless. Alone, she rolled a dice, reflecting on her life, times both painful and pleasant. She stumbled upon The Grange, which changed the...

Long and Short Reviews Weekly Blog Challenge | 04.08.20

First, my apologies for missing last week's blog challenge. Due to an unexpected scheduling conflict (my error), I was unable to participate. Now to this week's challenge: Topic(s) I could give an impromptu speech on. Goodness, where do I begin? I do have tons of knowledge on a variety of subjects. However, I don't like giving speeches. Makes me nervous. I'm an introvert. Getting in front of a crowd means I have to prepare myself. If I absolutely had to, I would talk about merchandising (I...

Friday Feast | Morgan's Pizza

We are a pizza loving family! For decades, the tradition of having pizza on a weeknight was always a possibility in this house. We have all voiced our favorites--from vegetarian to meat lovers, and the simple cheese pizza, especially when we've ordered from our local pizza restaurant. Yet I do love making the dough from scratch. It makes the house smell divine and tastes delicious! Recently, my husband and I have found this simple pizza recipe our favorite. It's super easy to make and doesn't...

Friday Feast | Cranberry Orange Scones

As a writer, I often spend most of my time in seclusion, deep within my writing cave. Yet since the freedom to take a walk to my local coffee shop, visit family or friends, or to be able to drive to our local winery has been put on hold, I find myself in a cleaning mood. In going through my pantry, I discovered lots of golden nuggets... A bag of mini Cadbury chocolate eggs A bag of Ghirardelli chocolate chips Several Hersey bars Chocolate covered espresso beans Dove chocolate A bag of dried...

Long and Short Reviews Weekly Blog Challenge | 03.25.20

Hello, dear friends! I hope you and your loved ones are doing well. Considering the state of our planet, this week's topic was one I'm sure most of us can only dream about at the moment: Favorite things to do in the spring. When spring arrives, I'm usually bursting with joy--similar to a flower bulb shooting forth from the ground. March sees the arrival of two of my favorite flowers, the daffodil and roses. There's something bright and cheery about the daffodil, and I love the scent of roses....

The Power of the Internet

I love this quote by A. A. Milne. And this is how I'm feeling. I care about my family, friends, and the world. My mother said something to me the other day. She said, "Remember this in your later years. You're now living in history." Though its scary with many out of jobs, tons of businesses and schools closed, and the threat of an invisible virus creating chaos across our globe, I have to remain calm. Focus on something positive each day. As a writer, I'm blessed to be able to work from...

Friday Feast | Shepherd's Pie

Welcome to Friday Feast in Mary's Tavern! When I think of Shepherd's Pie, my imagination goes wild. Seriously! You can create any version of this dish with a variety of ingredients--from Yukon gold to sweet potatoes. And don't get me started on the filling. I've made it without meat and filled it with only vegetables and broth. The one above was made with ground beef but feel free to substitute your favorite. In fact, I challenge you to create your own version of this hearty dish and send me...
