Friday Feast | My Favorite Kitchen Tool

It's shiny, red, and the favorite tool in my kitchen! This gem is also 23 years old. I purchased it (on sale) at a specialty food store right before I went to work for Borders Books. This Kitchen Aid mixer has survived three major moves (this older version is heavy) and continues to aid me in my cooking and baking. I adore her!

When I had an issue with the handle many years ago, I was fortunate to find someone who specialized in fixing these mixers. It was an easy peasy job. Many superb dishes...

Friday Feast | Delicious Corn Chowder

I've always been a fan of leeks, though I detested cleaning them. Imagine my surprise when I found leeks already chopped and partially cleaned in tidy packages at ,my local Trader Joe's! Perfect! I can't get enough of this tasty vegetable. And when you combine them with garlic...delicious!

The star in this dish is obviously the corn, which you can use frozen or canned. But as summer approaches you might want to consider using fresh corn. Often times, I'll grill corn on the cob and shave the co...

Welcome to the first Wednesday of June! Our weekly blogging challenge is hosted by the lovely people at Long and Short Reviews. This week's topic: Things I wish I were better at.

Hmm... a challenge, indeed. If you had asked me this question years ago, I might have given you a list of things I struggled to do better at. Yet I'm older, wiser, and view life a wee bit differently.

I thought about this topic for some time, too. These are my thoughtful conclusions...

1. ,Listen more. My children ...

Friday Feast | The Sticky Sweetness of Honey

I've just had a teaspoon of honey, and I'm smacking my lips to gather every drop. As you can see in the photo, I have a collection of honey. I was thrilled to receive a couple jars for Mother's Day, and I'm eager to try the honey with pecans, warmed over vanilla bean ice cream.

Did I mention I love honey? Sure do!

There's something about this gooey, sticky sweetness that I crave to use as an ingredient, not only in baking, but savory dishes as well. When I watch the bees out in my garden, I'...

Long and Short Reviews Weekly Blog Challenge | 05.27.20

Welcome to this week's blog challenge, hosted by Long and Short Reviews! The topic: Books set in my city or state. Even though there are many set in my state of California, I could only think of three authors (including me) that have based their stories here.

Brenda Novak

,Melody DeBlois

Now I'm positive they're many more out there, but my brain is lacking in searching for the information. I'm blaming it on my edits. Maybe everything will return to its wacky "normal" brainwave pattern after ...
