Stephen Moss was born in England, but spent time as a child in wildly diverse places, including several years in Brazil, Belgium, and Malaysia.

He eventually settled in New York, but still travels avidly, something he uses as inspiration and input to his writing. Stephen is a fan of Hard SF by masters such as Iain M. Banks, Orson Scott Card, Peter F. Hamilton and the many other fantastic writers creating masterpieces every year.

His first novel, Fear the Sky, combines his passions for science fiction with a solid, realistic foundation, with his passion for travel. The novel takes place across the globe, from London, to Brussels, to DC, to the Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan and Pakistan, to the back streets of Tel Aviv. The few places in

I wanted to explore what it would be like for us to feel the way so many great civilizations of Earth must have before they were lost to the ages because they clashed with a greater power, like the Incas and the Aztecs for example, not to mention the technologically limited but often societally inspiring Native American tribes now subsumed into, and under western culture.

Of course, just to have it be a story of obliteration would be a frankly uninspiring tale, so instead I considered that, because we would be encountering an entire world, not, for example, just a few opportunists from a European superpower, the chances of organized and broad dissent among even the upper echelons of the coming force would be possible, even likely, and it would be on that, not our own devices, that our fate would hinge.

Not a happy tale, perhaps, but I hope it is an engaging one, and am very excited and proud of the way it is taking shape. I am well into writing the final book now and have to say even I am surprised at where it has gone.

But no spoilers. I hope you enjoy it, and please let me know what you think.(less)

The final chapter in the trilogy is already 50% drafted as well, so that will be out by the end of this year. I also have a new project I am working on, The Similar Infinites, which should be ready early in 2015. (less)

"This book is brilliant. Really grabs hold of you and doesn't let you off, which is why I found myself still reading it at 1:15 in the morning before finally finding a chapter end where I could pause.

However, there are a number of spelling/grammar..." Read more of this review »

“Meetings were, almost by definition, the product of the indecisive mind, and so they were usually run, and often populated, by indecisive people.”

Stephen Moss, Fear the Survivors

“Occasionally some people think more with their right brains than with their left.  They are often our greatest artists.  They are also often considered insane.  But the biggest difference is with age.”

“A person standing in a field is actually moving at a thousand miles an hour around the Earth’s center, which is revolving around the sun at sixty-seven thousand miles per hour, which is revolving around the center of the Milky Way at a pace beggaring belief, which is hurtling outward from the point of origin at speeds faster than any craft we had ever made. ”
Stephen Moss, Fear the Future

“Occasionally some people think more with their right brains than with their left.  They are often our greatest artists.  They are also often considered insane.  But the biggest difference is with age.  We forget how to listen to our right brains with time.  We imprison them with logic and prejudice until our greatest source of creativity and brilliance is locked behind a wall of assumption and primitive common sense, and then it is heard only as an echo.”
Stephen Moss, Fear the Survivors

“The splitting of the human mind down the middle was one of those foibles of evolution that had no practical application, but because it had no downsides great enough to have prompted natural selection to weed it out, it had remained. ”
Stephen Moss, Fear the Survivors
