Ideally I would be sitting on a dock by the lake with a cat on my lap, a glass of wine in one hand, and a good book in the other. (Don’t ask how I’d turn the pages or get the cat near the water.) Failing that, I love to recreate an era in which I can immerse myself (and readers), by weaving compelling stories around meticulously researched facts. My characters are best friends, whom others are now calling “cherished friends”. If you want a glimpse of my world, visit my book trailer on YouTube.
I've been thrilled with the response from fans, who have made comments such as "You have created a masterpiece. I loved every moment..." and "I haven't been that emotionally invested in a story in many years." More comments can be seen on my website,

100 Years Ago: A Special Remembrance

CWGC Cemetery in Etaples, France - Photo copyright Melanie WillsWandering through this Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) cemetery at Etaples on the north coast of France, I felt a visceral connection to “The Great War”, now ended 100 years ago.
This photo can’t even begin to convey the enormity of the site or the profound sadness that you feel among the nearly 11,000 WW1 graves. Seeing Read more of this blog post »

The Summer Before The Storm (Literature & Fiction)
1 chapters   —   updated Apr 11, 2009 06:27AM
Description: Book 1 of The Muskoka Novels: The Summer Before The Storm begins in 1914 in the beautiful lake district of Muskoka. It’s the Age of Elegance in the summer playground of the affluent and powerful. But their charmed lives begin to unravel with the onset of the Great War, in which many are destined to become part of the “lost generation”. This richly textured tale takes the reader on an unforgettable journey from romantic moonlight cruises to the horrific sinking of the Lusitania, genteel Muskoka to wartime Britain, regattas on the water to combat in the skies over France, extravagant mansions to deadly trenches – from innocence to nationhood.
Elusive Dawn (Literature & Fiction)
1 chapters   —   updated Apr 09, 2009 02:49PM
Description: Book 2 in the Muskoka Novels series: Set in Canada, the U.S., France, and Britain, Elusive Dawn continues to follow the lives, loves, and fortunes of the privileged Wyndham family and their friends. While some revel in the last resplendent days of the season at their Muskoka cottage, others continue to be drawn inexorably into the “Great War”, going from a world of misty sunrises across a tranquil lake to deadly moonlight bombing raids, festering trenches, and visceral terror. Living in the shadows of fear and danger awakens the urgency to grasp life, to live more immediately, more passionately amid the enormity of unprecedented death. Those who survive this cataclysmic time are forever changed, like Canada itself.
