Thanks for your message. I'm so happy you loved Masquerade! I can't wait to see your review. Your question is one a lot of readers have been asking! The book was contracted as a stand alone with the possibility of a sequel, if it sells well. But I am working on a sequel in anticipation that Masquerade becomes a bestseller!! I'll be having a meeting with Penguin in a month or two to work out where we will be going with it. The more noise readers make in the meantime for a sequel, the stronger the possibility! Sorry I can't give you a definite answer at this point, but the moment I know readers will too. Grazie mille! Kylie(less)

Hi Renee,
Thanks for your question and sorry it's taken me almost a week to reply! I went to Venice in July 2013 and spent an amazing 6 days there, though I could've spent a whole month or more! Masquerade was actually written and submitted to Penguin at the time (I was nervously waiting on their decision), so I knew the places that were in my story and that I wanted to visit. It took the entire 6 days to visit most of them.
I was really inspired by The Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale) and the darker side of it. I did a tour called The Secret Itineraries tour, which was brilliant. It took you through the underground and the rooftop prisons - so fascinating and such a contrast to other parts of the palace. Though I didn't get to feature this in Masquerade, if Masquerade is a success and I get to publish a sequel, I would really like to include the darker side of The Doge's Palace in the book. I'd also love to set a ball there in the magnificent Council Chamber.
All the places I visited (La Fenice, Ghetto Novo, Murano, Ca' Rezzonico to name a few) inspired me to add more detail to my descriptions and scenes to do justice the amazing places they are, whether that was the colour of the canals, the sounds in St Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco), the scope and size of everything or the feeling of being lost among of labyrinth of alley ways and streets.
I hope that answers your question, please feel free to ask more. I'm so glad that you loved Masquerade! (less)
