Hi. I met you at Comikaze and you signed a script for me. I thought I was getting over pneumonia, but I was actually in the later stages of heart failure. I've spent the last seven months in and out of hospitals and basically kind of isolated(coughgollum w

Goodness gracious heart failure is gross. Sorry to hear it but thrilled that you seem to be crushing it. Message me with your address and we’ll send you a big ole cracked care package full of stuff that I can personally guarantee will have been touched by Soren.

So I've been following you since I started college in 2008 (think you're brilliant, by the way), and I'm curious; do you look forward to going to work and doing your job every day (or at least most days)? Because I've hated every job I've ever had (mostly

Find a job that you love (my current job). Failing that, find things ABOUT your job that you can love (my previous job, tending bar, wasn’t a job that I loved, but I made friends with my coworkers and would write articles/stories when I didn’t have customers, so I still had reasons to look forward to going to work). Failing that, acknowledge that you are not your job, and your job is just one PART of your life, and then find other stuff in your life that you love that have nothing to do with work (my job years ago, when I sold shoes. I couldn’t make that job fun, but I found fun elsewhere, and selling shoes put money in my pocket that I could later spend on things I enjoyed).

Should I die before you, can my family commission you to sing Ave Maria at my funeral? That's all I want right now.

I would love to sing Ave Maria at your funeral, because I know nothing about you so your death would be meaningless to me.

That is a reference to an episode of our Bonus Harry Potter show (the fourth and final episode is out now).  In that episode, I sing Ave Maria as hard as I can until Michael starts singing, and then I go completely silent because I need to hold back laughter.

What's your love life like?

It’s the best.

your book was fantastic! do you let fans of your work take you out for coffee?

Not really! But thanks so much for the kind words and thoughtfulness. I am at almost all times a nervous ball of stress, and while I’m super appreciative of every wonderful fan I have somehow tricked into liking my work (and while I’m always happy to meet and take pictures when they come out to stand up shows, panels and signings), spending time with fans is one of the most nerve wracking experiences for me because I’m, oh boy, just the worst. People are fans because they’ve responded to different things that I’ve made, and I always want to be… I don’t know, however they want me to be? I want to match whatever expectations they have so the experience is a positive one, and I don’t quite know how to do that.

It’s a stupid and silly thing and I’m sorry I’m like this. But you’re great! Spend that coffee money on your current crush, or charity, or invest it wisely in what businessmen call “The Market of Stocks.”
