Free Rat Care Guide

I do apologise, I’ve missed a couple of days now. As I half expected, The Rat’s Whiskershasn’t taken off as much as the previous books, partly I suspect because of the price tag, and partly because it’s not an immediately ‘useful’ book, more of an interest book. I’m hoping it’s just a little slow to find its feetand will get more interest towards the end of the year.

I’m doing a giveaway on the Rat Care Guide right now as well, which isthe guide I give to new owners who have baby rats from me. That’s going fairly well, soI’m happy with that one.

I’ll try to get back into photo mode this evening and post some more pics of my ratties.

Take care. x

Zebedee on the high wire

Today’s photo is Zebedee balancing on the rats’ baby gym. A fantastic value toy – just three quid from a charity shop.

Fly free, my baby

There it goes, another book cherished and developed for several months and now released into the outside world, to fly high or sink to the depths. It will be interesting to see how it does, because it’s not going to be to everyone’s taste.

The Rat’s Whiskers

Share the wonder and privilege of watching baby rats develop and grow from wriggling little jellybeans into intelligent and resourceful young ratlets. A delightful and fascinating photographic journey through the first weeks of these baby rats’ lives.

Well done, Mr Pickles

I really love this photo. It’s exactly a month since I posted about Mr Pickles, and looking at him day by day I haven’t seen the improvement. Then I looked at what I had written, and I have to say he has come on so much in this month. After seven months with me he’s finally becoming a more sociable rat. He’s not perfect, and if I hear screeching from the rat room it’s usually Mr P, but he is eating side by side with the other rats and sleeping side by side with the other rats. Well done, Mr Pickles.

Here he is bottom left, with Xerxes and Teddy.xerxespickleteddy

Rambling Rose (Bramble)

We got a nice pic of Bramble today. Looking back at the previous pics is a little upsetting as we’ve lost four from this cage since I began taking a picture a day, leaving just four of my mad minks in the group. Bramble and her sisters are now 27.5 months old and all growing old together, but they all look as though they will stick around for a little while at least.bramble

It’s a rat thing

My rats do actually use their litter trays for the intended purpose, so why to they also like to eat their food there? Is it because it’s the furthest, darkest place in the cage so they feel safe there, or is it because it smells like rat so it must be safe?

A final read-through

I’m giving the Kindle version of The Rat’s Whiskers its final (I hope) read-through today, and it’s surprising me how much I’m enjoying it. I would have loved reading this if it had been written by someone else. That’s very reassuring, because it’s so easy to become tired of the book while going through editing, proof reading and correcting, and I need to believe in it if I’m going to promote it.

Beatrix

Finally, this is Beatrix, aka Trixie. She’s a Russian dove doe from Xara’s litter and is, at this very moment, excavating a vertical tunnel into the litter bag with the help of Adeline and Arwen.

Arwen

Today’s photo is of Arwen, a Russian blue Essex doe from Xia’s litter. She has very dark colouring for an Essex, although it will probably fade as she gets older.
