Nidhi Chanani is a freelance illustrator, cartoonist and writer. After completing her undergrad literature degree at the University of California at Santa Cruz, Nidhi pursued a career in nonprofits. The desire to draw kept pulling her away and in 2008 she enrolled in art school (only to drop out a year later). In 2009 she began completing one illustration every day of the week. She called this Every Day Love and developed her narrative style and voice with three years of daily practice. Thus began her art career and business.

Born in Calcutta and raised in suburban southern California, Nidhi creates because it makes her happy – with the hope that it can make others happy, too. In April of 2012 she was honored by the Obama Administration as a

Hi Anurati,
I will do my best to answer your questions in one swoop. I didn't train myself intentionally. I studied literature in college for my undergraduate degree and drew all my life. It wasn't until post college that I realized art could be a profession. I know that may seem like basic knowledge but my entire family went down the traditional paths - accountants, business people, doctors, engineers. I had zero exposure to artists. So when I came to illustration it was late in life and I was clear in my goal: I wanted to make books.
I didn't have family support but I had my partner and close friends cheering me on and that was essential to my succees. Did they know I would succeed? No! We laugh about it often that when I enrolled in art school none of us knew where it would take me, but they believed in me and that helped me forward.
Trials and anxieties may be my set point! Even now I struggle with them daily. Again, I lean on my partner and friends to help me through. I could never do this work without a network of support. It's grueling because I'm always looking at the goal ahead. I am now trying to focus on gratitude and awareness of where I am. It's a process.
I hope this helps!(less)

Turning Red

We watched Turning Red this weekend and haven’t stopped listening to the songs since. My 6 year old and I are definitely 4 townies! I think Turning Red might be my favorite pixar film to date.

Meanwhile I’ve been traveling a bit and invested in an ipad and pencil, so I am able to quickly sketch and it feels exciting to be able to draw from life again. I was recently in Houston through the Texas
