Christian W. Freed was born in Buffalo, N.Y. more years ago than he would like to remember. After spending more than 20 years in the active duty US Army he has turned his talents to writing. Since retiring, he has gone on to publish over 20 military fantasy and science fiction novels, as well as his memoirs from his time in Iraq and Afghanistan. His first published book (Hammers in the Wind) has been the #1 free book on Kindle 4 times and he holds a fancy certificate from the L Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest.

Passionate about history, he combines his knowledge of the past with modern military tactics to create an engaging, quasi-realistic world for the readers. He graduated from Campbell University with a degree in history and is

The battle of Helm's Deep was visually pleasing, but it was a complete waste of life. I try to use real tactics and go from there. (less)

The Malazan Book of the Fallen is 10 books and accompanied by several smaller companion novels set within the overall timeline. I also got hooked on L E Modesitt Jr's Recluse novels. As for influence- I would say Dennis McKiernan inspired me when I was still a child. (less)

Fear Profits a Man Nothing

From my limited point of view and experiences, no truer words have been uttered (even though they are from a movie with Vikings and Neanderthals killing the crap out of each other). Fear cripples. Paralyzes. Does so much damage we might not recover. This is certainly true with this Covid nonsense.

Now, please don’t get me wrong. I’m all for minding my business, doing what the experts say, and be co

Trigger Warning: Adult language and graphic violence. Some sexual content.

In this sci-fi crossed with fantasy, the universe is in trouble. The Gods have abandoned the humans after destroying each other in a fight that" Read more of this review »

Whole lot of meh in here, though the main story not only covers the Horus Heresy but 10k years into the future. Typical Black Library stuff so don't expect anything different. Most everyone dies and the future is a grim, dark place.

“Christian does a great job helping an aspiring writer get inspired to write and finish their book. It’s easy to read and understand, and provides encouragement and specific guidance, without being too harsh or detailed on fiction writing only. If you are struggling with how to put your thoughts onto paper, give this a read and establish a rhythm for your writing. Christian’s success at completing over 21 published manuscripts while leading a busy life are testament in if there is a will, there is a way. And it provides some good humor throughout.”

Christian Warren Freed, So...You Want to Write a Book?

“The old stereotypes of fantasy and science fiction are dead. What was once considered foolish is now trending. Thank you internet age.”
Christian Warren Freed

“No one knows the origins of the universe. Gone was the knowledge of creation; lost to faded memories and the advance of time. History became legend, legend became myth. It is said the gods, flawless emperors of all, opened their hearts and gave life to hundreds of worlds. That love nurtured and evolved into utopian grandeur. Humanity prospered, every day reaching new heights. But all was not well. The gods were unhappy. War loomed ever on the near horizon. Realizing their plight, the king of the gods gave birth to three sons; would be kings to rule.”

“A single drop of rain fell. Lost quickly amongst the dust and grime of the village street, the raindrop went unnoticed. Who could have guessed that a single drop would alter the course of events set in motion thousands of years ago and change the face of the universe forever?”
Christian Warren Freed, Dreams of Winter

“Mollock Bolle stared down at the outstretched skeleton nearby and sighed. Random thoughts entertained his solitude. He wondered who the man was. What dreams or torments might have inspired him to take the lonely path through the jungle? Eerie similarities sparked concern.”

“I got offered a job,” I said nervously. I wasn’t sure why I was nervous. The only thing keeping me at home was my daughter. “It’s in Afghanistan.”
Not surprisingly, she told me to go for it. I smiled. Done. I was going to war.”
