Yes, we have a rough manuscript of Protectors of the Wood #3, The Ghost Girl, complete and ready for a final proofread and minor changes. Book #3 continues our saga of a group of misfit teenagers who save the world from climate change. The story begins the same night that Book #2 ends, but is told from the point of view of Abby rather than Phoebe. Our teenagers reach a new stage of their struggle to protect the secrets of Middletown and the forest against the greed and enormous wealth of the Geddon Corporation. Abby, Phoebe, George, and Jeremy begin to reach out to the wide world, finding allies and seeing their mission with a much wider horizon. We are already posting episodes from The Ghost Girl on the Protectors of the Wood Facebook page, and hope to have the book in print in two or three months.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes to you from all of us at the Protectors of the Wood.(less)

This process went on for over a year, and we created a whole town, characters, and a narrative plot. When my daughter was cleaning out her room before going to college, she handed me a shoe box of cassettes, and I began to transcribe them. We had three sets of characters: toddlers, teenagers, and adults. I decided to make the teenagers the central characters, and began to shape the plot into an action adventure.
When we created the original story, one of the first global ecological dangers hit the news: the ozone hole in the upper atmosphere. Human responsibility for the care and preservation of life on earth became a theme of the story. As time went on these dangers only increased, providing an urgent motivation for me to finish the story as an action adventure book series about a group of teenagers who save the world from climate change.
Whenever I have writer's block, or become discouraged and feel like giving up, I fall back on the guidance of the plot and themes of the story. Often it takes time to understand the exact path I want to take, but the crises of our time and the memory of our original story push me to continue.
