If it's a matter of being unable to think because of distractions, I put on the white noise and wear my don't-talk-to-me hat. If it's being stuck for a plot point or getting the wording of a sentence right, I put in a XXX as a placeholder for 'come back to this'. Then I move onto something else.
If it's being at a loss for ideas, well, the simplest thing, I find, is to read other books, go for a long walk and think about nothing, paint some eggs, write on the webpage, juggle, play with the boy, anything to break the mental fatigue. Like muscles, brains get tired, too.(less)

Start. Actually write something. There's a temptation to think, "Nah, I can't do that. I'm no Danielle Steel. I'm not interesting."
The fact that you're even thinking about writing means that you are already one point above everyone who isn't.
It takes some guts to go that extra step and commit your time to something which, ultimately, can be seen by anyone across the world. That's a scary thought. Very scary. Scary enough to prevent a lot of people from ever publishing anything.
Don't be one of them. Write something and get it up and out.(less)

It seems that everyone wants something from you these days. There’s always a catch. There’s always a gotcha. Always?

Almost always.

Believe it or not, there are people out there who actually care about the independents. One of them is Smashwords – easy and friendly publishing for independent authors. But what about musicians?

Where can you get your song played so people will actually hear it? Wher...

Now this was unexpected. I almost put the book down after the first few chapters. It was sort of waffling about and stuff, then I realised just what the story was getting at. I stuck with it. It got good. I kept going, it got better. The treatment of ...more

Wow. Bad wow, but still wow. I had read Dracula, and liked that a lot. I thought, heck, why not try this Lair of the White Worm? There's even a (VERY loosely based) movie on it. And dragons are always fun.
Big mistake. The plot stutters and starts, dr

Fun. Convoluted. Thoughtful. But mostly fun. There's a blend of mystery, intrigue, a sprinkling of Australian humour (but not enough to cringe over) and, of course, icky-sticky time machine issues. The book isn't wedged in one gear, rather the reader ...more
