Carole Parkes is a wife of 51 years, a mother of three sons, and a grandmother. She first ventured into writing in 1985 when her children were still at home. She wrote a series of children's books, some short stories, and a novel 'Tissue of Lies'.

Caring for her elderly parents and her husband, who had suffered a serious heart attack at the age of forty-three, took up a huge chunk of her middle years. They are Kirk and Beth, a couple in their late thirties. He is portrayed as a bit thick and really gullible but he has an enormous heart. She looks bossy and brash but is easily offended. Together, they make some great laughable situations.(less)

The Road From Wigan Pier by Elizabeth Smith

Elizabeth Smith's story not only tells her story but also captures the times of the Depression and the World War. The grace with which she and her family push through the turbulent times was narrated brilliantly well. Excellent narration. " Read more of this review »
