Labor Day Sale...It's Almost Fall??

Do you need some fun reading for your Labor Day weekend? Are you in shock, like I am, that Labor Day is already almost here? The month of August seemed to last about four minutes. Maybe it's my age, or the fact that we have spent this month preparing our two older daughters for college, but time needs to take a break and slow the heck down already.

I'll be hanging on to the last tendrils of summer for dear life. I hope you all enjoy this weekend, and grab a super cheap copy of Peanut Butter and Naan: Stories of an American Mom in the Far East for less than a dollar!

Happy reading, and happy end-of-summer!

My Window Interview

This Saturday I have a book signing and reading at the Barnes & Noble in Bend, Oregon.

I'm excited to get the opportunity to spend some time in this beautiful high desert mountain town. Come join me if you're nearby!

I was interviewed by the adorable Kerri Stewart (who once interviewed John F Kennedy Jr...swoon!). You can watch it here.

Senioritis

School is almost out, and while I am long out of school - as a mom I definitely have senioritis. Reading logs are left on the kitchen counter, I am checking homework with less vigilance than before, and we are all ready to welcome summer vacation.

I plan on reading as much as possible this summer. My list continues to grow, and one thing I love about Goodreads is that I can look at my friends' lists for great ideas. Anyone have a good summer read they are dying to sink into?

I recently finished The Girl on the Train. What a page turner! The flight from Portland to Atlanta went by in no time, and I am happy to report that my book signing and reading at the Macon Barnes & Noble was a wonderful event.

Stay strong, fellow parents. If school hasn't yet ended for your kids, it will soon. Until then, cheers - and as always, happy reading!

Crossfit Does Not Fit This Writer

If you're like me, the idea of a workout that rewards pain, punishing reps and expects the endurance of a Clydesdale is about as appealing as a root canal with no pain killer.

I invite you to read my latest post on my author page. Come check it out and, as always - happy reading!

The Anxiety Express

Do you read Brain, Child Magazine? If you don't, please let this serve as encouragement to go check out this stellar literary magazine. Editor-in-Chief Marcelle Soviero heads up this award-winning publication that is a great source of beautifully written essays. Cheryl Strayed, Ann Hood and many, many other fabulous writers have contributed to what I consider to be the best treasure trove of writing in one place.

I have had the good fortune of being a contributor as well, and my latest essay, The Anxiety Express, was just published. Please, take a look! I would love to know what you think.

Happy Martin Luther King day, and as always - happy reading!

Great Article from The Atlantic

I just came across this article from The Atlantic and had to share. Have a look and let me know what you think. It's a beautifully done piece on the subjectivity of what is and isn't "readable."

What say you? Have you absolutely loathed a book others have loved? (Ahem...50 Shades) or vice versa?

Read the article here.

2015 is the Year of Book Events!

Finally! 2015 is here, Christmas is behind us, there are no pending birthdays in the house and I can relax. I hope all of you can have a moment (or longer) to catch your breath, regroup, and kick off this year with some positive energy.

Starting this month I will be reading Peanut Butter and Naan: Stories of an American Mom in the Far East in and around the Pacific Northwest. The first stop is The Book Bin on Friday, January 23rd at 7 PM in Salem, Oregon.

I hope to see as many Willamette Valley readers there as possible! Admittedly, I am a little bit nervous; especially since this is my first event. I do know this: however I feel, it is going to be a fun night. I'm fairly certain it's impossible to not have a good time when surrounded by books, friends and snacks.

Stay tuned for additional event dates for Seattle, Portland, Bend, Denver and more.

Happy New Year and happy reading!

New Blog and New Book Giveaway!

I'm so excited to be a part of the Goodreads community. Can there be a better social media outlet than one that brings together readers and writers who love books? The only way to improve upon this would be if our computers dispensed wine during book chats. Someone needs to get working on that, please.
I am also thrilled to announce a huge book giveaway with my Goodreads community! Please enter to win a copy of my new book, Peanut Butter and Naan: Stories of an American Mom in India and the Middle East That Will Stick to the Roof of Your Mouth. THIRTY signed copies copies will be given away to readers during November. I'm hoping to meet many new readers and writers through this process.
I'll be coming here often to talk about the writing process and, of course, good books.
Enter to win your copy here:
