As a security contractor, government civilian and military officer, Myke Cole’s career has run the gamut from Counterterrorism to Cyber Warfare to Federal Law Enforcement. He’s done three tours in Iraq and was recalled to serve during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. He recently joined the cast of Hunted on CBS as part of an elite team of fugitive hunters.

All that conflict can wear a guy out. Thank goodness for fantasy novels, comic books, late night games of Dungeons and Dragons and lots of angst fueled writing.

Look, I certainly sympathize with the difficulty and anxiety of tackling an artistic enterprise. I know what it feels like to be stuck. But, you're an adult. Fix your shit.(less)

I'd rather not comment than risk alienating a reader or coloring their view of my work. My goal is to write great stories that are unencumbered by the reader's view of me personally.

On the other hand, I have a strong sense of justice and try to stand up for what I believe in, even when doing so is difficult or uncomfortable. There have been some issues where I have taken public stands and it has no doubt cost me readers. I'd be lying if I said I was fine with that. The thought of losing even one reader due to a personal disagreement really rattles me.

Anyone who reads my work can't fail to notice that my positions often diverge from the prevailing military culture, and more importantly, from the prevailing culture of those who admire the military and either have never served, or have served in the past. To the extent this cognitive dissonance causes me to lose their respect or attention, I am tremendously troubled, but I do feel like I've accomplished what I set out to do artistically.

Hope that wasn't too careful an answer :) (less)

As I’m sure most of you know, SIEGE LINE, the 3rd book in my REAWAKENING prequel trilogy and my 6th published novel, comes out on Halloween.

I said in an earlier tweet that’s its a bittersweet release for me. It marks the end of my first story arc, a world I’ve been laboring in/on for 6 years as a pro, and at least a decade as an aspirant. I’m both sad and relieved to see this part of my career...

“When you cannot have a thing, sometimes you hunger for it anyway. The closeness of it, the taste of it, the feel of its heat. It is a pale reflection of the truth, but a reflection is better than darkness.”
Myke Cole, Gemini Cell

“Fear isn’t the mind killer. It is fathoms deep and miles wide, more intricate than the pattern on a fine Persian rug. I will not “master my fear.” I am a thinking man who knows it’s not a thing that could ever be mastered. I will instead seek to understand it, to embrace it, to know how it lifts me up and how it holds me back.”
Myke Cole

“This was the thing about religious types she hated so much. They never missed a chance to proselytize. No tragedy was sacred, no setback off-limits. They would solemnly enter your private space, regal and pompous as crows, full is righteous self-importance. Then, when she was at her weakest, they would tell her why the unacceptable was acceptable, why it was okay that she'd lost the love of her life
because an invisible man in the sly (and it was always a man, wasn't it?) had willed it.”
