Jan Foster-Bartlett, born in West London, always loved writing and composition when she was young but her scribblings fell to the wayside once she entered the world of work. An avid reader, her favourite genre being either historical, (a subject that in her teens sparked her passion for anything Richard III) or supernatural tales, Barbara Erskine and Phil Rickman are two of her favourite authors.
After thirteen years working in Local Government she retrained at college and moved to Surrey to work in IT. She rekindled her love for creative writing when she relocated to her maternal grandmother’s roots of rural Norfolk where she can appreciate to the full her love for nature and wildlife. In addition to her novel, Echoes at the Abbey, she has

The exercise sat in my notebook for some years until one day I decided to explore where my few paragraphs of writing could lead. From that, Greysmead village materialised in my mind.
It was uncanny that when I first began Echoes at the Abbey I had set the location of the village of Greysmead close to a real town in Sussex. It was only after writing the first three or four chapters that I delved a little deeper into the lives of the lay brothers and Cistercian Abbeys in Sussex. I was amazed to discover that there had been only one Cistercian Abbey in the county of Sussex and spookily it had been located close to the town I had chosen. I therefore changed the town name to the fictional town of Lunsford. Further research revealed that was not where the strange co-incidences ended. The Abbey ruins do still sit in the grounds of a now lived in home - a house that was once the Abbots house complete with undercroft and stone angel!(less)
