Join me on the Feel Good Spaces Blog Tour
When I attended Book Expo America last year, the highlight for me was “BEA Bloggers” the day before BEA officially began. I discovered just how much publishers LOVE bloggers because bloggers can be a key to book sales. So, it’s always interesting to me to see how authors, publicists and publishers are using blog tours to support book promotion and sales–from the blogging network my colleagues at Shelton Interactive developed to promote the Chicken Soup books to the efforts of my individual clients, such as Sherry Burton Ways, Interior Design Consultant and author of the book Feel Good Spaces: A[...]

How to Write a Book: Conquering Your Fears: an Interview with Kate Beeders
My colleague, Success Coach Kate Beeders is a genius at helping people break through blocks—something that can plague aspiring authors. If you’ve read my posts from last year, you may have seen my interview with her on making money as an author. Here, I interview Kate about the main fears that stop aspiring authors in their tracks—even those who have already published. Lisa: Many people are stopped by fear of failure. How might you work with someone like that? Kate: I’d like to break that down into 3 steps: First, it’s important for a person to get clarity and understand[...]

How to Write a First Sentence that Draws Readers In
Here’s a great short book writing tip I had to share. After a bit of a false start with her first chapter, Bonnie Leonard returned to book writing class the next week having begun again. She shared a brilliant strategy I plan to try myself: she asked herself how she could start her book–and each chapter–with a line that immediately drew in her readers. Bonnie’s solution was to write down the first line of 15 books she had around the house and see which ones worked and why. The result? When she shared her first sentences in class, we all[...]

Lessons Learned in 2012
This post is inspired by Rusty Shelton’s Lessons Learned in 2012. I learn awesome lessons from my clients every day–lessons about staying with one’s vision, surrounding oneself with supportive people, trusting the muse, the importance of writing daily. Serving as a bridge between the person and their creative muse, I constantly witness people stepping into their greatness—letting go of old beliefs and ways of being that don’t serve them and expanding into a more evolved vision and adopting new habits. I learn way more than I can put in one blog post. So, I’m limiting this post to some clients[...]

Interview with Juan O’Callahan
I met Juan O’Callahan this past June at the University of Rhode Island’s Ocean State Summer Writers Conference and provided editing and advice over the next few months. When he self-published his excellent book, Wellness for Super-Seniors: How to Support Your Parents’ Health & Happiness & Help Them Live Longer, Better, I asked if he had advice to share with authors. Lisa: Can you share with blog readers how you started with the idea for Wellness for Super Seniors? Juan: I started out producing a manual for the wellness for elderly seniors –people over 75–consisting of exercises and nutrition practices that[...]

One Question that Will Change Your Writing
While browsing through Triberr, I read a recent blog post “Three Questions That Will Change Your Business” by Michele Welch that suggested entrepreneurs ask themselves, “What’s the complete opposite of what I’m doing?” My quick answer was: take a walk and have more fun and I could see immediately how that would help my business. It also made me think about asking that question about my writing. And the same answer seemed applicable. Plus get a really fun journal to write in. So, I’m committing to taking a walk tomorrow (it’s 10:55pm — too late to walk tonight) and having[...]

Book Confusion: Maybe You’ve Got More Than One Book In You
This post is inspired by Bring Your Book to Life Program participant Lori Williams who came to me, in her words, “Pregnant with a book.” She felt impassioned to write a memoir, yet when we spoke about her goals and dreams she expressed real pressure from her controlled remote viewing students to write a how-to book–and a personal desire to share the techniques she teaches nationally with a wider audience. We settled on the how-to book as the first book–it would certainly be easier to get that one complete and into the world and she felt a strong need for[...]
