Christopher Gabriel is an author slinging short stories along with the almighty novel. He has been writing since his high school days on through to adulthood, moved over the years by his peers and the prose of the greats. The written word is his burning passion. Besides writing (and also reading a lot) he spends his time being: a dad to a beautiful little human that is growing too fast (along with parenting a few pet animals), a husband, and an avid traveler to the wilderness. He graduated from Purdue University and lives in Chicago, IL.

I have always dreamt of looking upon the White Tower in Tar Valon or discussing books with an Ogier, amongst other things. I am perfectly fine not encountering a trolloc or the Forsaken though. Some of the best advice I received was to do something that focused your mind. Writer's block isn't so much a block as it is our way to distract and avoid a difficult point in our writing. How to resolve it? I have three methods that I employ, depending on my mood.
1. Clear my head. I do this through exercise (simply a walk, or a workout) or meditation. This sounds very cliche but it honestly works really well.
2. Read. This is important to do as a writer anyway, but seeing how your peers resolve a plot point or how they flow through a scene can act as inspiration for the part that is difficult for you.
3. Have an alternate piece to work on. When I am working on a larger story, I always have a short story that I am writing as well that I use as an alternate. When I feel stuck, I switch projects, giving myself room for my options to percolate while simultaneously reenforcing my discipline of needing to write.

The main thing is, give yourself room to breathe, regroup, and get back at it. Happy writing!(less)

‘Slight’ of Hand

“I can’t bloody believe this Quinn…”

David kept fluttering his fingers, his hands clammy as he paced in the room. Water seeped in from the ceiling in the corner, the smell of mildew thick on the air as the incessant drip, drip, drip echoed like a distant drummer.

Their whole lives, they’d lived like this. A trailer, a dilapidated flat; nothing that ever kept them safe, whether from the elements or f
