You all thought Ayla was a villain? HA. You know NOTHING Jon Snows.
The ride I have been on has been completely insane. From start to finish. I feel like I’ve not come up for air until now and even now the air is toxic. Basically, this sequel blew my mind. Ten times more action packed and emotional as the first.

There isn’t a lot I can say because I don’t want to give spoilers away but wow…the introduction of new characters, friend and foe…the terrifying antagonist…the things I’ve learnt about Ayla, Leith, Kabe and Casey. The way these guys interacted with one another, the way I saw a transformation in all of them…I have no words. I feel like season 2 (and yes, I’m totally taking it to that level), ramped everything up. There was genuine fear and deep emotion present in these characters that had my heart bleeding. Seriously, raw emotional butchering of my heart went down.

EJ Dawson has upped the ante with Darkening. There were so many close calls and don’t get me started on the level of fear she generated in some scenes that had my body breaking out in goosebumps. This was smooth sail reading for me…except the winds were high, the waves were rough and I was holding on for dear life, both scared and eager to get to the end – because of how brilliantly written this was.

Which has me rolling onto EJ’s writing…which I absolutely adore. Every scene was so vivid, beautiful and otherworldly, that I felt THERE with them. Despite the danger, the enormous anxiety and palpitations I had reading them, I adored being transported into their world. I loved this journey, loved seeing etches of vulnerability and cracked shields in the minds of these characters I loved. It makes them real, loveable, human. It makes me scared to lose them even more.

And the romance…because yes, we can’t forget about Leith and Ayla’s insane chemistry…goodness gracious me. Heat. Fire. Feeling. And the subtle sweetness? The butchering of my feeble heart? Yeah…I still had time to blush and appreciate the moments they said more with their eyes than their mouths. Now that’s romance. You’ll get it Jon Snows.

I’m excited and terrified. Even though it ended on the kind of cliffhanger that has you wanting to throw your tv out the window and then yourself, I’m so bloody excited (and scared) for the final book. That’s all I can say.

My verdict: Yes.
Just yes. This book was YES.

Now I’m ready for MORE. ...more

It’s a Sarah Bailey creation and for anyone who has picked up her books will know that this is a powerful, emotional rollercoaster of a story. But more than that, it’s an epic love story. One that will break your heart and mend it continuously.

Aaron and Rhys’ friendship is so pure and magical. We leapt through time with them. We experience the hardship of being bullied, misunderstood, unloved, helpless, and numb all through Rhys’ eyes. And in Aaron’s eyes we experience hope, strength, confusion, angst, desire and true unconditional love. We patiently wait for the friendship to take wing, to see the exchange of trust and loyalty. We wait for them to realise they belong.
Then hits the angst. And I’ll be honest, the angst was insane. I loved it. There were multiple palpitations, not just because of the heart racing, lip biting scenes, but true fear of potentially seeing this beautiful relationship fall apart.

Our Darkest Hour is a slow burn. And I’m not hating. I love slow burns, so for me this was right up my street. This book was beautifully written from the perspective of two characters who can only be described as being soul mates. In fact, there were so many tropes in this book which made it a huge indulgent read. Coming of age, soul mates, second chance, friends to lovers, dark romance. And this book is different from Sarah’s other dark romances in that it wasn’t as dark. But that’s not a negative critique in any way shape or form. I’m just here recovering from the abuse my heart has taken after reading this story.

The author guarantees HEA so I’m not spoiling anything by saying there’s a happy ending. But it’s the JOURNEY and the hardcore FEELS in this book which makes this cake an absolutely unforgettable delight. It's what a romance book is all about. It's what a romance book should be.
I adore Aaron and Rhys. They have a special place in my heart. Their love is pure, hot, intense and inspiring. Readers will understand.
I only wish I could give this ten stars because that’s what it is.
And now that I know there’s more Our Darkest books coming out, I can’t wait to see who Sarah throws into the fire next…though I think I already have a clue. ...more
