Agna's review
of
Dark Hour: a medical thriller (The Gamma Sequence Book 5):
"Just when Hamilton, Jaden, Helena and Constantine think they’re safe and sound in their new estate, an intruder with a box delivers a threatening message before committing suicide. The box contains a thumb drive with a message from Dr. Hauser, presum"

“It’s rare to see a man step up and say “I can be a great father and learn about gymnastics with my daughter and take her to dance lessons because I love her.” I can make time to blow bubbles on the back porch. It doesn’t cause your man card to be revoked.”

“Writers get ideas all day every day. The FedEx guy delivers a package from Sears and the writer is thinking how it could actually be a ticking time bomb.”

“Pound it out, get it done, write every day. No excuses. Kerouac said you can’t wait for inspiration, you have to go after it with a club. Damn straight. You’ll sleep a lot better getting your word count in than another quick Twitter check or keeping up to date on the Kardashians.”

“I take the rawest, realest moments in anyone’s life and I open them up and lay them bare. The innocence of a five year old child, the awkwardness of a teenager’s first sexual encounter, the heartbreak of longing for a relationship you can’t have, confronting the possibility of the death of your newborn child, whatever it is, you open your soul and put it out there and dare the world to read it, ready to have them stomp on you and laugh, but ready to do it again the next day. You have to put yourself out there as a writer, you can’t play it safe. Great writing isn’t safe.”

I won't, but I feel like I should.

Let's see how that goes. You can register to win one of 5 signed copies of "Savvy Stories, funny things I learned from my daughter."
Maybe I should get the link for that...

Hoping it improves. Not saying it isn't a quality read, just saying it's not what I expected from the recommendation I got. That said, if I had read this three years ago when I was just starting out, I might have found it more insightful. As it stands I'm seeing it validate a lot of things I've already concluded, learned and taught to others, which is satisfying.
I know, I know, this makes me sound arrogant. I'll post a fair review when I'm done, I promise. It might be a tremendous help to new authors; I'm not saying it's not.
If you loved it, let me know why. I'd be happy to hear it. Honest.

Hoping this one is as good as advertised.
BTW, you guys give away a LOT of spoilers in your reviews! I'll have to watch that!

Marketing. So much fun.

Also, I'll read some Critique Partner chapters this evening, after a round of where did we put Elf on the shelf???

Thanks for friending.
Please check out JO-KIN Battles the It.
A humorous space adventure with teamwork and resilience. "Brilliant, action-packed"- Buzz words.
cheers,
Karen
