Whizes, Whirls and Whoops of Youth.

I have to confess that for me the highlight of school days were the breaks between lessons where all that sit-still-in-class energy could be released. On one occasion I noticed a cap bomb that seemed to be of some interest. At that time the idea came to me all I needed were two bolts and a large nut that fitted both. I carefully inserted one cap and screwed the two bolts together into the nut. I tossed the contraption into the air and waited for the detonation, which was not bad. But if I could put one cap in why not more? So I stuffed in as many as I could and this time the explosion was massive, it was on closer examination of the contraption that it was clear it could no longer be used as both bolts were jammed cross threaded in the nut. At a much later time I found a new use for my jammed cap bomb as a weight for my new interest. In the air of the crowded play ground there were a number of different coloured tiny parachutes and the dark green one was mine. It is odd to think how much excited energy there was in me and little thought about how dangerous a pastime it could have been. Age gave into experience at that time and as our pastime was considered a danger to other children it was forbidden.

One late afternoon on the black and white television screen I noticed in a children's program a rather interesting gadget. Unknown to me I was not the only one who had caught on to the appeal and next day the teacher in early morning class was confronted by all the desk tops being covered by elastic band powered cotton wheel tanks climbing their laborious but fascinating ways across the table tops. Needless to say this was banned as well!

I never could master the art of playing a popular children's pastime of dabs as the dexterity seemed to elude me. I found marbles more interesting with so many variations of size, colour and patterns.

Although not really a game by chance I came across a small steel ball bearing race. At first glance not very interesting until I discovered on the way home from school I could skim it across the paving stones and it produced a burst of sparks which of course was great fun.

Another interesting thing I found in the back garden were some canes that were used to support the bean plants, but there is a better use for them as I found out. I got a hand full of soft sticky mud and clumped it on to the thin end of the cane. Then I used my school knowledge of physics and drew my throwing arm back and holding the bottom of the cane launched the mud missile straight up into the air and watched it travel to an unbelievable height before its returned to the ground. I should mention the neighbours were not too happy at the sudden appearance of mud lumps in their garden. Many years later I have noticed people walking their dog carrying a contraption that works on the same principle but this time it is made of plastic and the missile is a ball that the dog can fetch. Far less messy but I should imagine as much fun for the canine companion!

According to me string is a basic necessity to fully enjoy school pastimes. A round piece of cardboard with two parallel holes in the centre and then the string can be passed through the holes and the two ends of the string knotted. Now the fun begins by twisting the card round and pulling both opposite ends of the string apart the card whizzes around.

An interesting flying contraption that looks like an aeroplane and it is made of plastic can have both wings revolve horizontally giving it lift. I spent many hours peering in the sky at this clever toy.

I currently sometimes notice people flying suspended under a parachute canopy and behind them is a powered propeller. They have various modes of landing equipment such as wheels, chair or just feet. Necessity may be the mother of invention and I definitely think life is brightened by novelty, innovation and long may it continue.

The Riddle of Space.

I have always been interested in Cosmology and that is the start and life of everything in existence. For a while I was a little confused over the statement that space is curved. In my mind absolute space has no form, except for the shape of its surroundings. In my mind space equates with nothing. How can nothing have shape of its own?

Curved space is formed and affected by the force of gravity and the Universe is perpetually expanding. Something like a balloon being blown up but the expansion is increasing in speed.

What is the universe expanding into? Could that be the absolute space that has no form that is outside of our universe existence? Does that mean there is more than one type of space?

As a matter of fact the Universe space is not empty, it has been calculated as the largest mass of the Universe and is made up of dark energy and dark matter.

It is stated that 68% of the Universe is in the form of dark energy and this is thought to be the reason for the increase in the speed of expansion of the Universe. Little is known about dark energy but part of the riddle of space is why in the mid term of existence the Universe began to increase in the speed of an expansion and of course what is dark energy?

We know so much about some things yet the very power of being eludes us. If we knew the answer of space would it make us better people? More understanding, generous and caring.

A further 27% of the Universe is dark matter. That leaves just under 5% for the rest of the regular Universe such as planets and galaxies.

In knowledge lies the power for both good and evil.

The space of being is observed in the bubble of the Universe and this has form. Yet time before time must exist outside the dimension that we can see. Absolute space has mind blowing proportions as there is no bottom or top but for us continual motion until space and gravity decides our fate.

Memory Matters.

It was in the afternoon when I first noticed outside the post office where I worked stood a smartly dressed gentleman. As the time drew to closing I could still see the same gentleman looking a little lost. Before locking the door I asked if I could do anything for him. He slowly replied “It's gone.” By that time he looked a little shaky on his feet so I asked him in and quickly got a chair for him. He clearly was lost and after several more questions it became evident that he did not know his name or address. I was a little at a loss myself as to what to do, apart from ensuring he was as all right as could be, there were not any practices of protocol for such a situation. Sometimes you have to judge by instinct and when just at that time one of my regular customers was passing she seemed to be the exact needed relief as she realised something was wrong and came up to the gentleman. It so happened that she worked as a carer and suggested looking inside his jacket which was a brilliant idea as when my wife did this she found a name of a nursing home and telephone number printed on a label discretely located within his clothing. The telephone number was called and the mystery of who the gentleman was solved. On returning safely back to his nursing home we found out the why of his being outside where I worked. He had at one time lived in a bungalow with his wife and this was in a location nearby to the post office. The gentleman had difficulty recalling recent information but could relive past events without hardly any hesitation.

This experience was sadly one of several as dementia can be a constant shadow over particular people in life's progress and in some customers this was an obstacle that had to be lived alongside. The most prevalent talked of condition for a lot of people has now has become Alzheimer's and at the moment there is no known cure. Certain actions can exacerbate the condition but by stopping the use of a particular drug or vitamin, could the condition be returned to a previous state? I have great hope that the realisation of a particular action can make an improvement to the known of methods and that then the solution may be found for this very distressing ailment.

Several Universities are conducting experiments for a drug, that if successful, will not be available for at least five years. Could there be a hidden weapon in a Keto diet? It has been observed that patients with Alzheimer's generally have very low cholesterol. Cholesterol if found in a positive form can be important to the function of the brain. In this case a lack of certain type of fat could be a trigger to the vulnerability of the brain.

Alzheimer's disease is a terrible trauma to have to endure, it is a debilitating situation for both the sufferer and those around them. Memory matters for our sense of perspective, priority and our purpose in life. What is an identity if there is not those important and integral memories to back it up? To someone who loses their memory, people lose their positions in a life where once they may have been almost everything. If memories merge and blur then so too can many aspects of what is considered vital to a life. Knowledge is power and I think that along with our ability to improve in areas, so our capability will increase. If our knowledge improves then we will see an influx of interpretations on what we can do with important, biology based information. No longer will the distress of someone losing certain memories but being able to exactly recall historical events from their past be a complexity and instead of managing medical mysteries there will be an ability to improve on such vital issues.

Gender.

A fundamental part of existence is gender. At a young age it never occurred to me why girls and boys are different, not only in their physicality but in the way that they think. Many people have tried to philosophise on why it is that society will insist on categorising ideas based on a particular gender. Do men really take apart a map better and do women have a heightened sense of emotional well being?

Of course there are exceptions as stereotypes do not always hit the mark and labels such as tom boys came into my consciousness early on in life. How could it be that some people born with a particular gender have an overpowering knowledge they are the opposite sex and are very unhappy trapped with a sense that they are in the wrong body? In the early development of a foetus the gender is decided in an intermittent dose of sex hormones and some think this is where confusion can take place. It is easy to categorise people without really understanding the complexity of feelings and emotions.

When established beliefs over religion and practising relations are highlighted some difficult questions have to be resolved. At the age of twelve my father passed away after a long period of bed rest and illness. I had lost my father figure and I, although not completely aware of it at the time, lacked that male advisor and his perspective on particular issues. I found a male family friend who for me represented an example of a father. Any future male development debates could be had with him and he was critical in my understanding about the complexities of what age related issues could mean and the significance of his marriage gave me insights on what men and women could mean to each other.

Some parents although not biological still fulfil their duties to educate and care successfully for their charges. Indeed some single parents have to combine the duties of both father and mother. My mother had to be both parents to me. It emphasised for me what it takes for someone to be both mother and father but also how society defines many duties according to what sex you are. Be this fairly attributed or unjust, in some instances it is a basis for enhancing our comprehension of what being a male or female can mean in what is arguably an extremely gender based society.

Political Election.

I was 18 years old and had just boarded a bus when I overheard two ladies talking opposite me. At that time I did not know how close to a third world war at that precise moment we were. The dogs of war were straining at the leash, all set for Armageddon. “Have you heard Kennedy has been shot.”

A short time before the world was holding it's breath as Kennedy demanded the destruction of missile sites. Like the rest of the world I thought the crisis was over as Russia altered course. Over one hundred missiles armed with nuclear war heads each with a capacity to destroy a city had been prepared and although not long range, were powerful enough to wipe out any invading troops. Of course this would be the initiating of oblivion.

Politicians speak of unity and parity between nations. Ultimately a decision made between significant individuals in politics can influence the lives of many. Politicians may start off with an agenda to bring about positivity for their country but in their term or terms as leader should they be judged on each major decision or by their leadership as a whole? Countries may be separate but nations have certain ties to each other and this is an issue that has throughout history been the reason for conflict, negotiation and shared success.

This concept seems all the more poignant as currently the flag ship of democracy in the United States is being fought over by contestants who would have the people judge their capability to lead based on a few short but significant sound bites. There has been a battle of a verbal nature unlike ever before and a clash of wills that has brought into question what kind of America people need for themselves and their families.

While sometimes opponents in a political playground will be criticised for being too alike in their policies and practice, in this case neither of the candidates can be accused of this. Each is as varied from each other as can be. Publicly divisive and extreme have been the opinions on what each candidate stands for and what has occurred between them has distanced many from any notion that the individuals share many common codes of conduct. Whilst this makes it an unpredictable campaign, some think that it has caused questions to be asked about how a political election should be handled.

Candidates who aim to uphold the Presidency require charisma, personality and steadfastness. The office of the President of the United States of America is not a role easily won or once elected upheld. This upcoming election is as much about learning from the examples of history as it is about bringing a contemporary perspective to a country. How well this individual does the people will judge and history has yet to put to their claims into context.

Prostate Health.

Through life spirals and development comes a time of gradual alteration. Some of these biological adaptations are shared by other people who are approaching similar body milestones.

A small walnut size gland in men will after the age of fifty and affect 1 in 3 men with its enlargement and how people go about redressing the situation can have a vast difference to their quality of life.

I have read if proper care is given at an early stage this problem of the prostate can be permanently avoided. Although I can not be sure of this claim, the facts do indicate that just by avoiding long hours of sitting still and walking frequently the first part of prostate care will be activated.

It so happens that if it is confirmed that there is an enlarged prostate there is a not often talked about, natural, remedy to hand. It is in a soft gel form and the name is Prostasan. It is made from the fruit of Saw Palmetto which is a plant found in parts of South America. Simply having to take one capsule a day as required has cured what was a difficult and prolonged issue. Medical advice had seen me worsen in my health due to side effects of the prescribed medication. The issue I had did not resolve itself and instead of improving other areas in my health started to deteriorate.

Taking care of myself is an important requirement for a long and healthy life, but sometimes one needs to look at improving on how they treat an ailment. Medications can have side effects that are unpleasant and sometimes unnecessary. The tools are simple for particular medical problems and with a natural means of relieving the issue one could regain their health with ease.

Health is such a vital requirement but to employ what is most suitable at the right juncture is something that can be difficult. How could I be so aware of how ill I was and by following a medical route worsen? I found out about Saw Palmetto a natural option and for me it gave a solution to the medical problem I had and to improving my health in general. I am telling you about this in my blog because this is something people should know about.

There can not be a truer saying that life is what you make it. In order to do just that it is essential that I take the time and trouble to keep my body in the best condition possible and sometimes it is the knowledge that a simple natural fruit berry can do so much for me and improve the rest of my life.

Alternative Fuel.

Issues for many in the colder months focus on heating costs and the age old problem of how to keep warm without extensively depleting funds.

As the colder weather draws on I am reminded of the traumatic time when I received gas bills four times that of normal. After several long conversations with the supplier it was agreed to test the meter. This was done and in a suspected statement from the supplier it was claimed that the meter was recording correctly. I asked if I could have a second test to be carried out by testers of my choice instead of a dictated tester selected by the supplier. I was told that would not be possible as the meter had been tested to destruction. This only reinforced my belief that there was some doubt of the validity of the test carried out. Subsequently the gas bills returned to normal with a new meter in place.

Energy is such an important need and heavily relied upon are the conventional outlets for this requirement and so I began looking for an alternative way of heating and discovered bioethanol. This is a clear liquid, a fuel that can be obtained from plants. It can be used as an energy with no smoke, odour or waste. In a steel reservoir the liquid will provide ample heating and according to how it is used the clean alternative energy is something of a dependable eco-fuel. Bioethonal fuelled stoves can be stand alone features and do not need a chimney. As an energy it is an alternative that can be readily available and practical as it often comes in one litre bottles that should not be a bother to the elderly or frail to use. The more fuel you buy lowers the cost but what I like is once I have paid for it I can relax in the knowledge that I will not get a massive gas bill. I have control of my expenses.

Alternatives do not have to be exceptions. Bioethonal has proven to be an alternative for many but it can also be used alongside mainstream heating to homes, business and retailers, meaning that as an additional outlet this fuel can give a clean, eco-friendly option to top up on heating where needed and at a lower cost than would have to have otherwise be used.

There is a wider issue of what people can do to influence the cost of gas. It does seem that more people are shopping around and that in turn puts pressure on the supplier to be more competitive. That can be a positive plus for the people as when a supplier thinks they have a monopoly they can put the prices up with no fear of loosing business. Alternative energy is a way of being able to find an efficient means of improving on what there is already. Be it to switch or to implement a top up system finding ecologically green energy can be beneficial to the individuals who use it and to our environment.

Bloody Facts.

Blood is such an emotive concept. There have been historical blood baths to establish rights of nobility and embedded into our culture an everyday cliché such as blood is thicker than water and blood brothers. Even the link to rivers of blood indicated violent conflict yet in early medical practice it was a frequent practice to bleed a patient and as a notion blood has been used in both a positive and negative means of linguistic, practical and cultural demonstration. Bleeding a patient as a practice in general has been dropped when more sure ways of treatment have been found to alleviate ill health but it does serve to highlight how historical approaches to the concept of blood have varied.

Blood is important for good health and in operating the treatment necessary to maintain that good health. But what happens when investigation and standard practice do not recognise signs of long term and reversible unhealthy deposits in the blood linked to our circulatory system?

A dentist called Dr. Weston A. Price in the 1930s studied various groups of people and was amazed when he found some people had good healthy teeth and never suffered bone ailments. He established the reason to be a combination of a good supply of natural vitamin D3 and K2 mk 4/7 (mk is menaquinone). He then promoted a vitamin combination to readdress rampart tooth decay. One of the study groups consumed a good quantity of cheese and had excellent bones and teeth.

Vitamin D3 comes from sunlight and cod liver oil and other specific foods, it is important for healthy bones and teeth as with this influx of calcium it enables repairs and builds these important parts of the body. It is vital that vitamin K2 mk 4/7 is present as it facilitates the absorption of calcium into the bones and teeth. Another important quality of K2 mk 4/7 is the absorption and removal of calcium deposits in soft tissues such as arteries and redirecting the calcium into the bones and teeth.

A natural source of vitamin K2 mk 4 is butter that has been produced by grass fed cows. Some cheeses such as Gouda, Brie and Edam have these important vitamins in them. The most potent source of K2 is a Japanese food called Natto but it can be difficult to find outside of Japan.

Vitamin K1 is found in green leaf vegetables and aids with blood clotting where as vitamin K2 mk 4/7 is essential to the distribution and the correct absorption of calcium in the body. Natto releases vitamin K2 mk 7 which lasts a little longer in the body system.

Why is excess calcium in the circulatory system not a good idea? In a study of deaths due to circulatory problems 55% had excessive calcium deposits in their system.

I think of vitamin K2 mk 4/7 to be a conductor of an orchestra and an essential component for good health. I have been reassured that consuming dairy foods will make no difference to my overall cholesterol as the body has a self regulating system. Often increased cholesterol from outside will drop the amount of cholesterol normally produced by the body therefore aiding the body's ability to maintain a healthy balance.

Blood is a vital part of good health and it is down to me to check and insure the signs of my blood health are acted upon. Given that the greatest cause of deaths are because of circulatory problems and extensive bone disorders are a pre-scenario to broken bones this indicates how vital it is for our bodies to balance calcium. It would appear that a vast number of people are unaware of what a lack of vitamin K2 mk 4/7 can do to the body and how important it may be to their well-being.

Within blood there is the history of the past and vital information for the future health of mankind. Be blood aware and informed about what blood health can mean for you.

Fake or Fortune.

I recently heard that a discovery of a forged art piece could just be a tip of an iceberg in a flooded market of forgeries. This particular work had already been authenticated by experts but after detailed scientific investigation it was proved without doubt to be a forgery. Each forged piece of work has been bought for several million pounds.

I recall several years ago an interesting TV show featuring an art demonstration given by a colourful character who was notorious for his ability to reproduce important works of art. Tom Keating appeared to be in a battle driven by his feeling of economic injustice that many talented artists hardly ever in their lifetime received anything like the financial reward for their work. Instead capitalistic investor led buys made fortunes for those exceptional few. Tom Keating working as an art restorer was challenged to make, in the style of a famous artist, a piece of work. This he did but signed it with his own name. Later unknown to him his signature was altered to that of the artist whose style he had represented. An art gallery bought the painting as an original and was eager to obtain more.

Where as a currency forger the intention is not to be discovered Tom Keating deliberately planted clues in the form of time bombs that when the painting was cleaned would show up its true origins. After a legal case against him was dropped due to his poor health he appeared on TV demonstrating his technique of creating masterpieces. In a bizarre occurrence notable people including the famous boxer Henry Cooper started collecting the works of Tom Keating and today it is ironic that his work commands a substantially higher price than in Tom Keating's lifetime.

A more recent German art forger has just been released from serving a prison sentence. He claimed the only thing he had been put in prison for was the wrong signature. He is very happy signing his own works with his signature as now they are collectable and he is doing very well based on his artistic ability.

Michelangelo at an earlier unknown juncture of his career happened to sculpt a copy of a sculpture he had noted, he hid it in the ground, dug it up later and it was then bought as an original. When the person found out that it was a copy he went to demand back what he had paid for it from a more than pleased buyer and seller of art, someone who fully recognised his fortune because it happened to be that Michelangelo's artistic talent had by then become well known.

Artistic talent is recognised in multiple formats and as they say imitation is the greatest form of flattery. An artist who is able to capture a true likeness of a great masterpiece is in their own right demonstrating a real talent but as with many other arenas in life, it is how this is recognised, utilised and appreciated by society that can alter the life of the artist.
