How Fit Are You?

Being heathy and looking healthy are two distinct states. People who appear extremely fit and tick the boxes for a general perception of good health can sometimes not be as physically healthy as first thought. The body can tend to work in unison with all the many differing parts, each area of organ, blood or heart health can be as important as the other. Stamina can be a significant result of good physical health, feeling perpetually tired or lacking energy can be an indication of your overall depleted health. If it is, that the health boxes are focused on the wrong target for ascertaining optimum fitness or strength, then quite easily targets for overall health potential can be missed.

How fit are you? It is the question that can be most misleading, because aesthetic and internal physical fitness can vary. Muscle mass and body tone can be built up quickly but if not done in accordance with a healthy regime, the body can suffer. A failure to acquire the correct absorption of all types of nutrients throughout the body can cause a build up of unused molecules that are not in the right place, this could have implications for the immune system or muscle capability and physical health can diminish.

Food and fitness do go hand in hand. Hydration is an integral necessity to furnishing the body for fitness. Look at it as a base if you like, because without hydration the body is not going to build or maintain a healthy state of fitness. Food is a useful category with which to progress fitness. Diet does not need to be difficult or boring. It is a matter of means and motivation. Food groups that are able to boost a slow burn metabolism release can help in maintaining energy for exercise and subsequently this can keep the body in better shape. Eating can be a sign of health and fitness awareness as hunger is one of the positive indicators of good healthy physical needs. Conscious awareness of what you are eating, how often and being able to stop when you are full but not necessarily having to finish a particular portion size, these have all shown to be extremely proactive methods for balanced weight loss and healthy fitness.

Sleep is so significant for fitness. It is in those periods of rest and relaxation when the body can repair and replenish itself from any physical and mental exertions. Do not underestimate the power of sleep because any potential for healthy fitness can be lost without it.

Both areas of intake for food and sleep can positively help increase a mental state in accordance with more healthy and long-term fitness. If the body is properly nourished and not feeling tired, possibility and potential can be far easier to plan, pursue and progress.

Understanding and listening to a body’s physical needs is a requirement for any fitness goal. If the body is not treated equally, internal functions can weaken or cease altogether and there can be slight or more serious indications that things are not working as they should do. Fitness is a concept that incorporates the mind and body. Approaching the idea of being fit ideally needs to allow a positive mental attitude to tackle every aspect of diet, sleep and exercise. If any of the areas are neglected excessively then this can influence the overall result. If you are going to get fit, why not have the whole package? It includes internal and external wellness and well-being.

Imagination.

One of the greatest assets of the mind, is imagination. It is individual but has the potential to be shared.

Walt Disney at one time in his life was told that he lacked imagination but went on to astound people with his creativity. Imagination is the spark of inspiration that blossoms through so many diverse human activities. A vision of change to the social structure has been the driving force of many outstanding leaders but first it came from imagining how things could be in the future.

The mode of transport that is accepted as everyday throughout many a generation has been spurred on by daring visionary inventors. Beautiful and vividly inspired though that first imaginative start might have been, the progress of many inventions had many trials and tribulations. Imagination for safety’s sake needs a touch of realism but not enough to stifle endeavour.

A field of outstanding value is in that of personal well being, this is somewhat dependant on the use of imagination because if used wisely it can achieve so many positive results. An awareness of self-development and how to best use one’s own abilities is undoubtedly based on the depth to which one explores their imaginative prowess. The arts of writing, drawing and painting can be greatly enhanced by exploring the unlimited imagination. Many creative pursuits are considered highly therapeutic and are key to demonstrating how liberated or expressive a person can be, these same outlets are footprints or signatures of someone’s own perception.

An interesting phenomena is that generally children have an active imagination and derive a great deal of pleasure by exploring the potential that it has, but as time goes by this activity declines. It is a shame that in many instances of education or at leisure this potent means of enjoyment and enlightenment is not more taken advantage of by active trips into the glory of imagination.

A shared emotion is aroused when contemplating a mathematical multiplication problem. How wonderful it would be if instead of learning times tables, imagine using a system of rules to directly produce the answer. This method is actually a mathematical reality after somebody first used their imagination and formulated a working system. There are many performances of amazingly fast mathematical calculations that have been obtained after imagining that same possibility.

A creative imagination is an intrinsic part of solving problems in so many different fields of activity. Imagination has a fantastic potential for good by sharing ideas of social behaviour. Imagine a world whereby international conflicts have reduced dramatically or ceased entirely and on a smaller scale upon meeting someone the first exchange or gesture is to offer a pleasant greeting and the offer of help or assistance. Each good turn is multiplied by returning it to others. Overly simple or hopeful this imagined notion might be, but it is surprising how much can change from an initial act of imagination and subsequent kindness.

Evolution.

I find that contemplating the twists of evolution is a maze of mystery and wonders. One can not imagine evolution without thinking about the development and progression of animals and creatures, and to question why things have turned out in the way that they have done?

When looking at present day life, who would ever have imagined the humble banana shares fifty per cent of DNA with humans. That particular thought continues back to plants and animals, they all share a common ancestor. What came before that ancestor? The metamorphoses of life in the form of pre DNA cell formation from non-living substances. Before that, the evolution of stars and galaxies, that make up the periodic table of atoms, ultimately an infinitesimally small burst of hot energy that is inflating at an increasing rate. Did anything come before that? Yes, Knowing exactly what it was is still to be established, although there are plenty of ideas about it.

Present day humanity is a puzzle. When looking back at the history of humans, instead of just sharing maybe a small part of its DNA with Neanderthal beings, one suggestion is that the whole of all living people should actually be Neanderthals. Why is this? Well, as a population the strongest, fittest, as well as largest brains belonged to the Neanderthals and on paper it would have been in no doubt as to how well they could have done in the evolution competition that is also known as life. Evolution has many variables and for that reason it is unpredictable, although like a stream humans can make a guess of its course but never forget, the unexpected can and will happen.

Life travels in one direction, that is unless you are the immortal jellyfish, which has the ability for rebirth of itself. There are so many things in the natural world that are contrary to the expected. If you are male, bearing young is often for many species, not in the job description category. But spare a thought for the male seahorse, an animal that does indeed do that. Even when it comes to knowing what sex you are some fish, when nature demands it, will change gender. There are also organisms that infect a host and can go on to change its sex.

What happens when part of the body is lost or damaged? The consequences for some creatures, is to just regrow the damaged part or limb and in some cases even physically develop an extra head.

Birds do not normally have teeth yet at one time some did and they still posses in their DNA the dormant gene for teeth. At the time of the dinosaurs an outstanding creature called the archaeopteryx possessed scales and feathers, teeth in its beak and claws on its wings. A cross between a reptile and bird, it was more equipped for climbing than flying.

The platypus, mudskipper, sea slug, and euglena flagellum are living organisms that encompass the missing links of evolution. The euglena flagellum bridges the two worlds of plant and animal by gaining energy from sunlight and feeding on other organic material. Some animals are plant eating but also some plants are carnivorous and are natural traps for the unsuspecting creature that comes their way.

Evolution has the ability to be very, very slow or amazingly fast. Apart from gene variation in DNA there are outside forces that can initiate adaption and change in the path of evolution. That is why it is such an awe-inspiring, always interesting field of exploration.

The Medicine Market.

When deciding about the best choice on health, the many scenarios and situations can be complex enough and you almost expect the vital information to be presented in an instantly understandable format. You would think that the facts are the facts and the implications should be clear. Ambiguity, in the arena of medicine choice, is a dirty word. If it halts correct decision making, falsely gives an impression or does not allow for a full perspective to be gained, then it is can be a dangerous problem to encounter.

Have a little glimpse into the medicine market, and headline grabbers such as Medication X will reduce the chance of an undesirable consequence by twenty eight per cent, could well stop you in your tracks. Promises and specifically quoted figures sound great but the consequences of taking carefully chosen facts at face value can be limiting to the true picture.

Many industries rely on statistic based impressions about the success of the target product. The medicine market, is in some ways, no different. If you take Medication X as an example, two people in every one hundred will despite taking the stipulated medicine, still have an undesirable experience. That summary is only part of the true situation as most medications have side effects that can range from minor to major. Medication X is no exception but an accurate figure is hotly disputed as proper recording can vastly fluctuate in terms of process and procedure.

How is this benefit obtained by comparing one hundred people taking Medication X to one hundred
people doing absolutely nothing about their health? What would happen if the comparison was with people actively following a healthy diet and lifestyle? Unfortunately, this type of study would not help with promoting sales of Medication X and as in most areas of business, priority can favour accumulation of funds over being able to always analysing all of the facts.

Wellness is big business and there are times when everybody needs to turn to a resource for answers or in some cases treatment. One would hope that those who can control the overall decisions do ask the factually important questions such as how many people will benefit after taking medicine X, what are the side effects, how serious are they and how frequently do they occur? Being as confident as possible about what is being offered for a particular medical complaint is everything. Of course, to a certain extent decisions are made by professional bodies and by and far for the vast majority of examples, this is a foolproof method of diagnosis and subsequent medicinal treatment. However, knowing the wider options and gaining a better understanding of a particular treatment, if relevant individually, can be enlightening. How will the proposed medicine influence you?

It is very important to fully understand that the medicine market is large and can vary greatly according to what is best for each person. There are usually options for treatment and it is acceptable to be cautious if only the benefits of a particular medicine are being highlighted and none of the negatives are being made clear. Know the full facts of any treatment and that can help you to be informed and aware of what the potential for it is.

Health Facts.

If you please, bear with me as I put you into a lovely but perhaps not too uncommon a scenario whereby you are out on a glorious sunshiny day, feeling as if all your senses are engaged and fully aware. While it might be absolutely accurate that you feel enlightened by this prospect, there could be a little fact which you have not thought about.

Did you know that there is a silent but life changing process going on, and the one I am talking about is when light makes contact with the skin it initiates the production of cholesterol sulfate, that in turn, is a substrate of vitamin D sulfate. Why is this so important? Cholesterol sulfate has been argued is the answer as to why there is a great difference is the state of health in differing populations. Cholesterol sulfate has been suggested is the key to explaining why there is a vast difference in the health of populations in very sunny areas as opposed to those that lack the same amenity.

Red blood cells depend on cholesterol sulphate for their integrity and the efficiency of blood flow through the arteries. Each blood cell has a cholesterol sulphate particle attached that also has a negative ion. The importance of this is negative ions will repulse other negative ions on other blood cells and surrounding tissue. This is why blood cells do not amalgamate together into a large blob. Within the artery a further action takes place, through vigorous blood flow the production of nitric oxide is stimulated and that has the benefit of relaxing blood vessels and stopping the formation of blood clots.

The great thing about cholesterol sulfate, is that it is a molecule that can travel everywhere within the body. This is because it is water and fat compatible and does not depend on being packaged into vessels to be transported within the body as lipoproteins.

Healthy facts can provide more knowledge on what happens in detail through the body. The process within the artery of the enzyme endothelial nitric oxide syntheses has two options of when being on a cell membrane it makes sulfate and when loose in the cytoplasm it releases nitric oxide. There is a constant control mechanism to allow the molecule to change back and forth when needed, as sulfate thickens the blood and nitrate thins it. Pretty amazing really!

When there is a deficiency of sulfate and nitrates the body can suffer and what could make matters worse is the intake of foods by intensive farming and the use of chemicals that are consequently consumed. The result is interference with the important bodily functions which are needed to keep us all healthy.

Drinking water contains ten per cent of the daily recommended amount of sulphur and garlic is another healthy source. Nitrates can be found in vegetables such as beetroot, carrots, cauliflower and spinach.

Cholesterol sulfate can be a most beneficial molecule to the body and it is boosted by the amount of carefully taken in sunshine and wholesome foods that are absorbed. Naturally, foods free of artificial interference are better but it is the chemical breakdowns that can impede or improve metabolisms and physical wellbeing.

Neurogenesis.

The general assumption for year upon year, has been that people are born with the usual one hundred billion neurons in their brain and that is an end to it. Another accepted notion is that as individuals age and progress each day there is a natural loss for everybody of thousands of neurons. Hold on though, stop the press, breaking news is about to prevail because in relatively recent years it has been discovered there is actually a constant rejuvenation of neurons. This is groundbreaking because neurons are our firecrackers, think of them as the transmitters of impulses and the tiny but terrific tickers that keep our brains fired up and active!

The neuron, or the basic working unit of the brain, is a specialized cell designed to transmit information to other nerve, gland cells or muscles. They are cells within the nervous system and have a cell body, an axon and dendrites. They are, literally a hugely important part of our biological system.

The process of neuron rejuvenation, neurogenesis, takes place in the hippocampus and sub-ventricular zone. In other mammals the new neurons from the sub-ventricular zone would be destined to enhance the capability of smell but in humans it is believed the new neurons help in aiding mobility and learning functions.

The quantity of approximately one thousand four hundred new neurons each day sounds huge, however it is tiny in comparison with the initial hundred billion that we are accompanied with at our stage of birth. It is worth considering what and how these new neurons will do in the body and the impact that they have on people’s overall health. As old neurons have a flexibility to take on actions that may be lost due to damage or ill health, this capacity entails a lot of concentrated hard work. Rejuvenation is a constant activity of the body such as the ability of the liver and internal bone structure to regrow and strengthen themselves.

It could be that new neurons have an inbuilt flexibility that allows support in vital places of the original brain structure. Of course the idea of actively stimulating the production of new brain cells is one that has a wide appeal. It should be no surprise that lifestyle has a great impact on this fascinating part of life and in accordance with this theory is the principle that the more improved and enhanced the health, the better the production of neurogenesis will occur in the body.

Placebo.

Within the body are enormous powers of rejuvenation and instances of miraculous health change abound. Thoughts and response in association with the metabolism of the body are continuous, although in general life we may not consciously be aware of this potential power. The placebo effect is one such area in which an interesting demonstration of this kind of process can occur.

Extremely well defined was the placebo effect in an incident whereby there was a patient with constant neck pains and they insisted that the doctor give them pills to relieve the suffering. There was no medical problem that could be found however the doctor in a study based scenario prescribed two sets of pills, one category with no active curative properties and the other being over the counter pain killers. The patient was not notified as to which one was which but was advised on which category A or B to take and at what precise times. Following on from this, the patient did as instructed and claimed that the neck pains eased, each time, after taking the set out pill. Unbeknown to the patient, the category of pills that they had been taking, was that of the placebo medication.

The placebo is not limited to symptoms or length of time. In another intriguing example a conventional medical doctor had a patient with troublesome life threatening bumps all over his body. The doctor was happy to give his patient a new medicine that had just been made available. After being administered, the patient’s bumps began subsiding and that was until on the news it was announced the effects of the same new drug had been overstated. The patient upon hearing this found that his bumps returned and even worse than before.

External opinions and mindsets can greatly influence thought patterns and subsequently feelings about health or happiness. The power of mind over body can even determine how well someone does in their recovery from ill health. Varying from the everyday comments of others on our general appearance and demeanour which can then go on to physically alter or emphasise if we do feel tired or unwell, to the more scientifically studied placebo influences of the mind to body state, these areas are most certainly prone to fluctuating according to mental attitude over matter.

Health Longevity.

Longevity, when associated with matters of health and life, has to be one of many people’s main aims. The most prevalent incidence of mortality is of great interest to multiple areas of study and subsequently problems involving the blood system is a major cause of concern. Although in the UK improved emergency treatment has greatly reduced fatalities, the incidence of blood system and related occurring problems are increasing.

Knowledge on any health issue can be paramount. Quality of life can be drastically reduced or improved and especially is this the case when dealing with certain blood-related ailments. Determining the right choices and acting positively can influence a condition. Diet and lifestyle can be founding contributors to the key for good health longevity.

Diet directly alters the blood metabolism. The integrity of the blood circulatory system depends on sufficient vitamins and minerals entering into it so that the blood flows freely and induces beneficial nutrients. The lack of enough vitamin C in the past could be recognised by scurvy and rickets. In the present day that lack of vitamin C foods is arguably even more known to have a threatening influence to health because of the silent undermining of the elasticity of arteries and production of collagen. This leaves the arteries stiff and prone to damage. Some animals can synthesize vitamin C but humans can not replicate this process and that is why it is important to regularly supplement the diet with enough of this vitamin from vegetables and fruit.

Calcium is such an important mineral and it is vital in the right places, such as bones and teeth. Unfortunately calcification occurs regularly throughout the body but more life threatening is this process within the arteries. There are foods that naturally redirect calcium from soft tissue where it causes harm to the correct places, but for this to take place vitamins need to work together such as A, D, E and K2. Particular studies have shown that populations wherein they have a high intake of butter from grass fed cows, cheese and eggs also omega 3 oily fish have less blood-related health problems. Glycemic scores should be regarded carefully as it is the balance of the blood properties that can be critical to good health. Reducing refined grains, alcohol or foods that cause inflammation and start the formation within the arteries of increasing plaque, can be long-term, heart healthy choices to make.

Eating the right food, as highlighted by Hippocrates the founder of the widely recognised Hippocratic oath, had it right when he said “let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food.”

It would be a mistake to single out one aspect of blood-related health, as it is a comprehensive issue which needs attention to several constant modes of life. There are many blood-related conditions but in talking about how one can predictably improve on many of these instances, enough restful sleep and purposeful relaxation are important as stress is accumulative. The body really needs to be relieved of excess strain. Short exercises that safely increase the heart rate have been found to stimulate the production of healthy responses within the body.

The right diet may not fit into a particular preset formula such as all vegan or all meat eating. Foods should be chosen for the result they will have on stabilising the blood balance, and that is by the vitamins and minerals they contain. In general terms, a little knowledge can go a long way but in particular when dealing with health, facts truly can be your best guides as to what is available for quality and longevity of life.

Environmental Matters.

Environmental matters, they concern everybody and what has previously been theory has to become practice, if the future of further generations is to be secure.

Amazing though it might sound, it is actually true that two world problems that seem to have been tackled independently could share in the same obvious solution. Climate change is an ever-increasing threat to human survival and what drives that to a large extent is the production of energy. How to produce that resource in an environmentally friendly way? The answer is to utilise the power of water evaporation.

It has been estimated that even with only the prototype machines there is a seventy per cent of the necessary power of the USA that could be obtained and more importantly without any threat to the environment. What is even more impressive is that over the same area of water, the energy production is three times more efficient than wind power. The mechanism included in this thought process is to combine the action of bacterial spores into muscle like reaction to moisture. That in turn provides energy for electric power production.

The scope for utilising evaporation energy is potentially the most fantastic boom for the populations
of the world. The world is seventy percent covered in water that does not need drilling and produces no long-term threats to the environment.

Even in environments that do not have large natural expanse of water, the process of evaporation energy works on the difference of humidity and that would only need a very limited amount of water vapour. Based on this principle, even barren countries could make use of this technology.

What is evident, and increasingly a matter for nations to consider, is that everybody needs energy but how that same resource is obtained can make all the difference to sustainability. Lives rely on this process and the procedure needs to be one upon which the environment is furnished for the future and not depleted beyond any means of recovery.

Eco-friendly energy can determine the progress of each country, working in unison with the most prevalent and abundant resources available in each environment. Wind, water and wave technology can all harness a vital potential and clean, green energy.

Actually improving on environmental matters can be a positive feature as it combines innovation and traditional knowledge of landscapes and waterways. Historically, people have always had to encounter and embark on times which have required a different approach to alter and enhance the way forward. It is imperative that clean technologies lead the path of innovation and that in taking up the challenge to positively progress in energy production, other human needs might also find that resolutions are not only a potential but are actually obtainable and possible.

Species.

The similarities between modern humankind and its evolutionary past can be seen, but do you know where to look for it? The answer is predominantly in the behaviour of other animal species.

What do we recognise as typical human traits? The ability to laugh and cry, to share empathy when the occasion for it does arise. The emotion of grief that can clearly be seen with dogs and the loss of their owner and the joy of greeting those they feel a loyalty towards upon their return have actually been the focus of psychological behaviour studies. Body language and expressions can be a key indicator in defining how evidently emotions can be shown. A profound understanding of loss previously only thought by the majority as an expression solely exhibited by humans was in fact exemplified by a herd of elephant whose constant human visitor and aid to survival passed away. In this particular case, the elephants clearly showed their distress at the event of his passing through a collective gathering of the herd outside the man’s home and as they collated they joined in a united bowing of their heads. Not only did the herd gather at the time of the gentleman’s passing but they returned each year upon the anniversary, marking this example of a species’ empathy as a means for much thought.

Similar modes of behaviour when focused on an instinct for protection of a mother towards its young have often not been limited to the same species, as many times has a female protected their own young and other offspring from danger and in some instances the feats of maternal rearing were thought beyond all practical possibility. In one instance a lioness not only protected her cubs from the potential attack of a threatening male lion but in her attempts to safeguard the animals, an injured fox fell under the remit of her care. In another situation of maternal instinct, a cat, despite having been singed and traumatised from a house fire continually kept going into and out of the building until she had secured the safety of every single last one of her kittens. A different but no less impressive encounter saw a female elephant who picked up a baby human and placed it in a position of safety, moments before a thunderous charge of elephants would have trampled the infant to death.

Appreciation and recognition are traits that have been noted in certain animals. There is a recent example whereby two men risked their lives to save a young zebra stuck in a fast flowing river. The mother zebra was seemingly able to express her gratitude towards the two men through a clear bowing of her head and lowering of her body, a sign that was accepted between them as a gesture of thanks.

There have been numerous reports and studies that have shown animals have emotions and frequently demonstrate even traits of generosity and fairness. An indication of this was evidenced when food has been placed regularly for wild animals to eat, a rapport developed between the animal and the supplier of food to the extent that the animal would take some of the food and purposefully lay it on the ground in front of the food giver as thanks and an instigation of a desire to share.

A less edifying incident occurred when members of the public were visiting a local animal park. A group including that of young man and his two female friends where viewing the occupant of a fenced off display. Everything was in order up to the point when the young man thought he should demonstrate for the entertainment of his compatriots how far he could get into the sleeping panda’s enclosure. He did sneak past the barriers and get through to the area designated for the panda, he did get up close and personal with the same animal but before he could make his escape, the sleeping giant panda woke. Making a grab for the boy’s trouser leg, his strength meant that he could have done him a lot of damage if he had wanted to, but instead he showed an interest in what he was doing without harming him at all. The boy had a lucky escape after all, getting away with everything in tact apart from his sense of bravado and ego, both of which suffered greatly and were left in tatters.

Species can vary, progress, mystify and astound. In the behaviour exhibited, different species can show a fascinating aptitude and evidence examples of expression or thought, often stated as not possible beyond that of a human being. This leads me to the concept that at this moment humans occupy the most dominant position on earth. This entails a responsibility to always being humane to all life species, including that of our own.
