Sigmund Freud Quotes on Dream Interpretation

We humans do love our quotes! Which is why I decided to do a blog using Sigmund Freud’s quotes on dream interpretation. Freud lived from 1856 to 1939, he founded psychoanalysis, and interpreting dreams were a sizable amount of his life’s work.

Sigmund Freud Quotes

Dreams are the royal road to the unconscious. – Sigmund Freud

Dreams are never concerned with trivia. – Sigmund Freud

Dreams are constructed from the residue of yesterday. – Sigmund Freud

The dream acts as a safety-valve for the over-burdened brain. – Sigmund Freud

Dreams are the guardians of sleep and not its disturbers. – Sigmund Freud

Dreams are often most profound when they seem the most crazy. – Sigmund Freud

The dream has no way at all of expressing the alternative ‘either … or’. It usually takes up the two options into one context as if they had equal rights. – Sigmund Freud

Dream Meanings for Trees

Trees, trees are everywhere and populate the majority of land on Earth. In fact, we humans would have trouble surviving without trees! Therefore, it’s not surprising why people wonder what the dream meanings of trees are. As with all dream symbols, there isn’t a set answer; however, in this blog, I will go over the generic tree symbolism, and two other factors to consider to assist you with interpreting your tree dreams.

General Dream Meanings for Trees

Below are ten possible messages when you’re interpreting your tree dream:

Stay in one place, instead of moving on.
Ground yourself as you’re unbalanced.
Growth is happening in your life.
Discover what’s really occurred in your family tree.
Branch out to other areas.
Clean up the dead leaves that are no longer needed.
Climb to a higher position in your life.
Confirming that what you are doing is bearing fruit.
Stop staying stuck in your life.
Get out in nature.

Feelings Change Dream Meanings for Trees

Emotions in dreams are key factors in analyzing your tree dream. Let’s use the following example:

You dream that a tree falls on the ground.

Fear could be symbolic for being afraid that your stability will become unstable.
Sadness may mean that the elder in your family has passed to the other side.
Joy would be appropriate if you’re finally moving to a new chapter in your life.
Anger might mean that you have to clean up someone else’s mess.
Relief can be a message that the tree didn’t fall on your house.

Different Types of Trees Dream Meanings

There’s probably articles and blogs on what the different types of trees are symbolic for, yet this doesn’t take into account on the individual’s feelings and past experiences. These three different trees are examples of this:

Pine Trees Could Be About

Someone who loves Christmas.
Profit for a merchant who sells Christmas items.
Childhood memories because their home was surrounded by pine trees.

Oak Trees May Mean

A carpenter’s favorite type of wood to work with.
Allergy season to those who are allergic to oak trees.
Amazing things are coming for someone who lives in the desert.

Palm Trees Message

Vacation time.
Moving to a warmer environment.
A hard climb because there aren’t any branches for support.

In Closing

My intention for writing this blog is to assist you to look beyond the general meanings, and to observe all aspects of yourself to gain a more unique understanding of not only your dream meanings of trees, but all your dream symbols. When doing dream interpretation pay attention to the feelings in the dream, possible past, present, or future life situations, and obstacles to overcome.

3 Interpretations for a Work Dream

Did you know that one dream can have more than one interpretation, just like a symbol? Which is why I’m using 3 interpretations for a work dream to showcase this point; however, there could be more possible interpretations, especially when you allow time to reveal even more. Sometimes when interpreting a client’s dream, I will receive a gut feeling for one main meaning. Although, often intuitively I know two or three different interpretations are accurate for a client’s in-depth email dream interpretation.

The Work Dream

A woman was in a car with her partner, who she thought was stopping at the ATM. Instead, he took her into his top secret work area. Her partner and his boss talked for a moment, then introduced him to her. She felt confident, yet hoped that her mate’s boss would be impressed with her.

In the next scene, the woman’s partner was off doing something else, while his boss took the notebook where her mate did his work and started tearing pages out of it. Upset, she asked, “Shouldn’t you get his permission before you start pulling his work apart?” With that her partner walked in seemly unfazed by his bosses’ actions.

Then in the following dream scene, she brought a few dishes to wash over to the sink. There was no way she was washing the other dishes. As she washed the dishes, she was afraid that she would do others by accident. When she looked over to the table where her purse was and noticed employees sitting there, she wondered if her purse was safe. Suddenly, she couldn’t find her favorite cup. Upset she started looking for it and felt relieved when she found it.

3 Interpretations for a Work Dream

In the following possible meanings of the above dream, I will use two possible interpretations with fake names, and the third one will be the correct one.

Woman’s Work Dream Analysis

Josephine feels insecure with her husband’s job because it seems so top secret, which is why she desires to learn more about it. She wants to meet his superiors, while feeling ripped off because he won’t share what’s going on at work, nor the quality of his work.

The dish washing dream scene represents her thoughts on how she does all the housework, yet no one seems to realize her value. Hence, the meaning of her wondering if her purse was safe at the table with the employee. Her favorite cup is also a representation of her worth, which she has the fear of losing, but it’s still there.

Man’s Work Dream Interpretation

John has this dream about his girlfriend to help understand her and himself better. There are times when he wonders if she considers him just an ATM and desires for her to know more about him. Nevertheless, John also desires others to admire his partner.

For the dream scene where the boss is ripping apart the notebook is symbolic of how John feels his mate tears him apart and he needs to stand up to her.

Next, the washing dishes dream scene could have two possible meanings. The first is he wish she wouldn’t just focus on herself and help him out more to add more value in the relationship. Secondly, he takes her for granted, needs to do more in the relationship, plus know her value.

What’s Pamela Dreaming?

That’s right, it was my dream that I’m using as an example of how one dream can have many meanings. In fact, there are other possible meanings within this dream from my past and the passage of time may reveal even more. Who said dream analysis was easy?

Background Info

Last week, I had a phone conversation for a possible collaboration where I would write a dream journal for a publishing company. The representative for the company was impressed by my knowledge of the publishing industry; ah, that’s what happens upon authoring six books. If I did the collaboration I would have to: sign a non-disclosure form to even look at the project, write according to their specific, do it within two months or earlier, agree to be a work for hire (yuck), and sign an exclusion clause for two years not to write anything of similar substance.

Even though I would be paid a nice chunk of change; the idea of restrictions on what to write, being under someone else’s control, possible repercussions on my author’s reputation, and interference with future business opportunities was a deep consideration. After pondering and receiving input from trusted professionals, I decided the money wasn’t worth it. As always I asked for a dream to confirm my decision.

Pamela’s Work Dream Analysis

Since my man was driving and has military clearance for his subcontract job, these were being used in my dreams as symbolism for my possible opportunity to write. Let me elaborate:

Being in the passenger seat is the message for not driving the car, hence not being in control of what to write.
Not stopping at the ATM could mean the opportunity is not set in stone, or to pass by the publishing company’s money.
The top secret work area is symbolic for not disclosing the details of the work to others that are not in the publishing company.
I am confident in my writing; however, I hope other’s will be impressed with it.

In the next scene where the boss is tearing pages out of my mate’s notebook is representing my feeling of a company owning my writing. My partner being unfazed meaning is a symbolism for many people think it’s perfectly fine to own someone else’s work.

The last scene of me washing the dishes stands for the effort to have my writing clean as possible, while not wanting to have to deal with other people’s writing ideas. My purse is symbolic for wondering if others in this publishing company would keep my author reputation safe and pay what I’m worth. My favorite cup represents how my writing and dream interpretation cup runneth over. The thought of losing it and others having it was upsetting. Finding my cup means to continue my self-employment path…

Final Thoughts

Can you now understand how one dream may have many meanings depending on a person’s life experience, situation, and any issues occurring? Even though I’ve been interpreting dreams for decades, I’m still fascinated by them.

Understanding Pregnancy Dream Meanings

Sheila feels alarmed upon awaking from a dream that she’s pregnant! Does this mean that Sheila is going to have a baby? Not necessarily, as pregnancy dream meanings have many possible interpretations depending on the dreamer’s feelings, life experience, and present/future circumstances. Dreaming of being pregnant can even happen to men, whether it’s them or their partner.

Generic Pregnancy Dream Meanings

If you search for the pregnancy dream symbol on a dream app or dream dictionary, you would find the following three main meanings:

Having a baby.
Working on a project.
Some type of personal growth.

Digging Deeper Into the Pregnancy Dream Meanings

We humans are much more complicated than generic symbolism. This is why when you’re interpreting a pregnancy dream, it’s crucial to search within yourself while pondering how this dream relates to you. These are eleven possible life situations that could trigger dreaming about being pregnant.

Longing to have a child.
Going through the process of in vitro fertilization.
Experiencing an abortion or miscarriage.
Opening a new business.
Creating an artist project.
Starting a new education path.
Beginning therapy or coaching.
Encountering a new spiritual chapter.
Establishing a relationship.

How Feelings Effect Pregnancy Dream Meanings

Let’s explore three different types of emotions in Shelia’s dream to observe possible dream messages.

Anger

If Shelia feels angry in her pregnancy dream it might represent:

Twenty-one year old Sheila has other plans for her life that don’t include a child.
Forty-five year old Sheila already raised three children.
Her new business is being sabotaged by competitors in her niche.

Fear

If fear is present in Shelia’s dream it could be because she is:

Starting a new job in another country.
Releasing repressed childhood memories in therapy.
Becoming single after twenty years of marriage.

Happiness

If Shelia is happy in her pregnancy dream might be a signal that:

The in vitro fertilization worked.
A publisher accepted her book proposal.
Her mortgage was approved.

With billions of people on Earth, feelings and life situations would create billions of possible pregnancy dream meanings. To learn more about dream interpretation and emotions, please read Emotions in Dreams Aids in Dream Interpretation and Feeling Emotions in Dreams.

Drinking and Drugging Dreams

What does it mean if you’re having a dream about drinking alcohol? Does using drugs in a dream mean that you have an addiction? Dream symbols are unique to each dreamer depending on their past/present experiences and problems. Therefore, drinking and drugging dreams can have hundreds of meanings. For example, a teetotaler dream will have a completely different message than someone who drinks and uses drugs daily.

Drinking and Drugging Dreams General Meanings

Some of you who visit this blog may just be looking for a generic meaning, which could be one of the following seven messages:

An upcoming party.
You need to enjoy life more.
There’s a situation in your life that you do not see clearly.
A loved one’s drinking and drug use is becoming an addiction.
Stop enabling an alcoholic or drug addict.
You’re drinking and drugging is causing problems in your life.
It’s time to become clean and sober.

Life Situations for Drinking and Drugging Dreams

Just like chocolate, shopping, sex, and other enjoyable things in life – moderation is key. There’s nothing wrong with an occasional substance use; however, there’s a problem when you are using them to not deal with your feelings, issues, and who you are. Plus, alcohol and drugs can prevent you from dreaming, which to me is a gigantic no, no.

Warning of Addiction

Denial is not a river in Egypt; nonetheless, we humans use it to bury pain or when we’re afraid of being hurt. Our dreams show us the truth of what’s occurring in our lives or might be a premonition of the future. Sadly, many survivors of trauma medicate themselves so they don’t have to deal with the past or their PTSD dreams.

Instead of hiding and burying situations with addiction, it’s time to face life on life’s terms. Please know that when you bring the demons to the light they disappear. Life is sweeter without having to depend upon a mind altering substance.

Drinking and Drugging Dreams in Recovery

For those of you brave enough to live life without drugs or alcohol; it’s normal to have dreams about using, especially in the beginning. These dreams may seem so real that it terrifies you upon awakening. However, they are a test to alert you to whether or not being clean and sober is worth it to you.

There’s a saying about how the word sober means son of a bitch everything’s real! Upon living an abstinent life, you’ll need to observe your past behaviors, ponder what bad behaviors need to be changed, and work towards living your life to the fullest potential.

Anniversary Drinking and Drugging Dreams

It’s not unusual to have dreams of using drugs or drinking as an anniversary approaches, especially big ones: five years, ten years, twenty years, thirty years, and so on… The inner drunk and/or drug addict may have been defeated; nevertheless, just like your inner child, it’s always there and wants to be heard. Listen to it, thank it, and let it know that you’re no longer interested in that lifestyle. Remember, no matter how many years of abstinence you have, there is always room for personal growth.

Having dreams of being drunk or high right before your anniversary are meant to show you how far you have come. And to have an attitude of gratitude for a clean and sober life where you can do anything, while dealing with problems without using a substance.

Final Thoughts

If you’re having drinking and drugging dreams, please carefully examine your life. Do you think you could have a drinking problem? Then, click alcoholics anonymous. Not sure if you have a drug addiction? Visit narcotics anonymous to find out.

DIY Dream Interpretation and Tarot

Since I’m in the process of creating an oracle deck for dream interpretation, I’ve been checking out different oracle and tarot decks. I came across an article on Cosmopolitan about best tarot decks, where the columnist states to cancel your tarot deck reading and do it yourself. Hmm, I thought, this could also apply to DIY dream interpretation. However, there’s truth and untruth to DIY; hence, the reason I wrote this blog post.

DIY Dream Interpretation and Tarot Cards

Let’s address the truth of doing it yourself, then the untruth.

DIY Truths

It’s important to learn how to fish for yourself, instead of being fed fish all the time. This is why my practice is all about teaching clients to learn how to interpret their own dreams and to grow spiritually. Yes, people need guidance; however, they need to start trusting themselves, too. And as the saying goes practice makes perfect. What a wonderful feeling it is to interpret your own dream, receive psychic information, and be able to read your own tarot cards.

DIY Untruths

We humans need other folks to help us obtain our goals. Why? Our egos, desires, and fears can take over, whether that’s consciously or subconsciously. An expert can bypass our blocks and wants with skillful assessment to assist to move forward. Nonetheless, it’s important to choose a dream analysis and tarot professional that has experience, works on their personal and spiritual growth, and has a good bedside manner.

DIY Dream Interpretation

Honestly, sometimes I wish that dream dictionaries didn’t exist. Why? Many in society think their dream meanings are only based on a symbol and dream apps/dictionaries helps to reinforce this. Or people visit online communities and receive inaccurate information.

Example

A long time, when I was with a group of spiritually gift women, a woman shared the following:

I keep on having a repeating dream that there are ghosts stuck in my old house.

These women (who aren’t dream experts) began to give many interpretations, which the woman replied, “Well, maybe.”

If you look in a dream dictionary one main interpretation of the ghost symbol is something that haunts you.

Finally, I couldn’t take it, and blurted out, “Since you are a ghost crosser, did you ever think that there are ghosts in your old home, who need help to crossing to the other side?”

Her response was, “Oh, my God! I should have thought of that!”

One thing I always state to my clients is that you’re the best interpreter of your dream, although you may need someone to guide you there. This is why it’s important for me to give my clients several interpretations of their dream for their inner ding to ring for the right meaning. Although, there are times I need to gently bypass their denial. Remember learning the secret language of dreams is not an overnight process, instead it’s a lifetime skill.

[image error] Click to Learn More
DIY Tarot

Tarot cards are similar to dream interpretation as it’s also not an overnight skill. Many decks have guidebooks, which some folks take as gospel. The key is to look beyond the general card meaning, notice the other symbols within the cards, plus the other surrounding cards.

It’s so important to do your own reading when you’re in a good space and not attached to the outcome. And believe me, as a human being it’s difficult to be unattached to important situations in life.

Example

Sarah (not her real name) desires her boyfriend to propose to her. She shuffles the cards and pulls out the Lover’s card.

“Oh, my God,” Sarah shrieks, “I’m getting married!”

Not necessary! The tarot card is accurate about them being lovers. Although, Sarah’s boyfriend could be in her life to teach her: passion, boundaries, self-love, or what she truly desires in a partner.

This example is a great reason to disregard Cosmopolitan’s advice and keep your appointment with a tarot reader and/or psychic. These experts will bypass your ego/desires so you receive an accurate reading. Even tarot readers and psychic visit each other for validation and when they can’t get a message for an emotional situations in their life.

Conclusion

Please experiment with DIY dream interpretation and tarot readings. Have fun, play, while patting yourself on the back upon coming up with an accurate interpretation or reading. Most importantly, allow yourself a lifetime to learn either or both of these modalities, while reaching out to experts for assistance.

Dream Messages

Someone asked the following questions about dream messages in a Facebook group that I belong to. Since other people could be pondering the same questions, I decided to do a blog post of this person’s inquires and my answer.

Dream Messages Questions

What is everyone’s opinion of dreams? I don’t dream much and the ones I remember are usually very odd. Do you think they’re messages since I’m remembering them? Or just random imagery? How do you tell the difference?

Dream Messages Answer

Every dream has meaning no matter how silly you feel it is, although it’s impossible to remember all of them. You tend to remember the dreams that happen right before your usual time of rising, very important dream messages will jolt you out of bed, and it takes TIME and DEDICATION to be able to understand your unique dream meanings. Why? You’re delving into layers upon layers of your subconscious mind and the Universal Self. Every symbol in dreams can have thousands upon thousands of meanings depending upon what it means to the individual dreamer. It’s important to look at your present, past, possible future, feelings, relationships with others, obstacles, wishes, and what you could be denying in your life. Every dream can have two, three, or more meanings. Then there are dream categories

In Conclusion

Are some of you thinking, “My God that seems like a lot of work? Is it worth it?” You betcha it is! Why? Your dreams are you. That’s right your dreams are demonstrating who you are. The most important question we humans ask is who am I? You receive that answer in your dream messages. These insights determine: true feelings about a situation, your goals in life, the truth about your relationships with others, the best path for you to take, and so much more. In fact, dreams are free therapy and psychic readings! Isn’t that worth the effort of understanding your dreams?

If you need assistance with understanding your dreams, check out my books, online courses, and dream interpretation services. To work on your personal and spiritual growth, please visit spiritual growth coaching.

My Dad’s Dream

The following blog post, My Dad’s Dream is from Julie Saillant, who had me as a guest on her podcast. During the interview the subject of dreams of the deceased popped up and Julie mentioned her father’s experience with dreaming regarding his wife. What a fascinating story! And I’m very grateful that she shared it with us as some of you may relate to it. Here’s Julie’s narrative:

My Dad’s Dream

Being an intuitive, empathic healer with gifts from birth, I have always had dreams where I could walk between the realms and see things others couldn’t. When my mother unexpectedly passed away, I was lucky enough to see her in my dreams and also received channeled information directly from God which included pictures of her in heaven.

When my mother left the earth, my father was devastated. My dad was an exceptionally strong man both physically, mentally and in his faith, and he always wanted to have a vision of my mother so that he could see for himself that she was okay. Yet it never came.

There was not one time he had ever had a dream of her in the 17 years since she’d been gone.

Vacation

Just two years ago, my dad had decided to take a family vacation to go visit my sister who had moved near the beach.

The day we were supposed to go home, we were going through airport security when my dad turned grey. I asked him what was wrong and he pointed to his heart. He got on the plane, but when I asked to sit next to him, I was told that “People pay good money for the seats in the front of the plane.”

To which I responded saying “My father may be having a heart attack on this plane. If that happens, I can guarantee you that you will need my help. I need to sit with him – make it happen!” Yes, I lost my temper and I was scared to death that my dad would have a heart attack at 50,000 feet with no chance of surviving.

I was pulled aside and told that “The crew did not think he should fly and that it would be better if we got off the plane.”

Hospital

We deplaned and he was angry with me saying, “He just wanted to go home”. The EMT’s came and took him to the hospital. When he was being admitted, he looked at me and said “We’ll be fine as long as I don’t have any dreams of your mother!”

We looked at each other and we both knew what that meant. If my father had a dream about my mother, it was game over for him. I nervously laughed and he was admitted.

They did determine that he had a mild heart attack and that his arteries were 90% clogged. They decided to operate and perform heart surgery on him, which is “fairly typical’ and most patients are “just fine.”

Huge warning bells went off in my head!

What they didn’t understand was that my father had a multitude of physical ailments. He had diabetes, spinal stenosis, and a muscle disease in his legs which was very painful as well as a history of blood clots. Most importantly, his heart was on the opposite side of his chest. This is called dextrocardia.

He was in the hospital for 3 days and on the 4th day, my sister and I went in to see him before the surgery. We were expecting to find him worried, nervous, unsure if this was the right thing to do and we what we saw was something completely different.

My Dad’s Dream about His Wife

He was beaming with happiness! He was radiating with a confidence and almost glow around him that I had not seen in a very long time. Because his physical ailments caused him quite a bit of discomfort and he was always in pain with his back or legs. Instead that morning he had a huge smile on his face.

He said “Girls! Girls! You’re not going to believe what happened!”

We said “What?”

He said “I had a dream about your mother last night.”

And. My. Heart. Sank.

Tears burned in my eyes, which I held back and put on a happy face. I KNEW what the dream meant and I also knew why he had it that particular night.

My sister had no idea and she was just as excited as he was.

He went on in great detail describing how he had seen her and what she looked like. He said she was a radiant beauty and that she came to him with love in her eyes and peace in her heart.

That morning God told me to take a picture of him, and I knew this was the last picture I would take of him alive.

Surgery

We hugged him and told him how much we loved him and he went into surgery. I held it together until I got to the elevator, then I lost it and was crying hysterically. I told my sister that the dream meant that our father would not come out of the surgery and that he would surely die.

This dream came at a significant time in his life, just before the surgery, and he had never had even one dream of her, so why now? The answer was to give him comfort and hope, that no matter what happened in surgery – she would be there waiting for him. My sister tried to comfort me, but I was inconsolable.

We went to the beach to try and pretend all would be well. Then we got the call that he was out of surgery and back in his room. We high fived each other and breathed a sigh of relief that he had made it.

After Surgery

Twenty minutes later, we got another call saying that he had been taken back to ICU to be “monitored”.

We rushed to the hospital to see him and what we saw shocked us. He was grey, in pain and in the worst shape I had ever seen him.

I told him “Dad, we are here. Save your strength” as he gasped for breath.

He said “I have never been this sick”.

The doctor told us he had a “slight complication” and that everything should be all right and he “should be going home tomorrow”.

Um, are you looking at what I’m looking at? What I’m seeing is a man who is totally grey, very sick, and he isn’t going anywhere for a while.

We were both on either side of his bed when the blood clot lets loose and he jerked. I looked at my sister and we both ran out of the room.

Everything that you see on TV is exactly what happens in real life – except it’s a million times worse. You hear “Code blue” and they all rush in and close the sheets so you can’t see anything. The longer they gave him CPR and he didn’t respond – the worse I knew it was.

My Dad’s Departure

After 15 minutes, I saw the vision. My father was in a white space with no walls, ceiling or floor. He was looking around, when he saw a ball of light come towards him and my mother stepped through.

The look of pure joy on his face was indescribable. He said “You’re here! You’re really here!” and she said “I waited for you.”

I knew then and there that he was with God in heaven and that the body in that hospital bed was just a body – he was gone. I was given a great gift to have seen that moment in time, and it has given me a lot of peace about his passing.

Final Thoughts

Dreams are important. They give us keys and information about events that are either currently happening or could occur in the future. They may seem silly or weird, but they are always gifts that can help us, if we have the courage to try to understand what they mean, instead of pushing them away.
