Althoug…moreWhen my father died, my wife and I were going though paperwork before the funeral. I discovered that I had been adopted. I was 42 at the time. Although, as an only child, I always had a feeling I was adopted, my parents never told me. I did not bring it up with my mother (why stir up trouble in the twilight of her life?), and later, found out the rest of my family knew all about it and never said a word in front of me. I would write a story about a man who searches for his biological parents and discovers an unsettling truth. There is an envelope in our safe that has my original name and the names of my biological parents. I will never look inside.(less)
