"J.T. Patten" has worked with the intelligence and special operations community in support of national defense and policy. He has a degree in Foreign Language, a Masters in Strategic Intelligence, graduate studies in Counter Terrorism from the University of St. Andrews, and numerous expertise certifications in forensics, fraud, and financial crime investigations. Patten shares these unique experiences with readers to give them a taste of "the black."

His novel is written in a multi-layered non-linear plot style that provides a compelling inside view of larger than life covert activities in addition to the gripping turmoil that warriors suffer while battling foes and internal demons.

Thanks for reaching out. Great question. For SAFE HAVENS: Shadow Masters, there was very little research that needed to be done. Writing the military / conspiracy thriller was a classic case of write what you know. For my next novel in the series, Primed Charge required a lot of research. Much more than I had expected. Unfortunately, Sean Havens got himself involved in a few locations that I had less experience in. To capture the sight, sounds, smells, political situations, etc, half of my time was spent digging in. On the one hand, it made it much harder to free write, on the other hand, the chunks made it a better way to keep flow and pace up. I think the second book is just as exciting and mechanically written better, as a result. Hope to finish it soon. (less)

“He continued along the route that he had reconnoitered the morning before. And the morning before that. He needed to change his route some to see if he was actually being followed. His instincts said he was clear, but his training ordered him to make sure.”

“A wry smile crossed Havens’ lips. Pork here in an overwhelmingly Muslim population was a stupid thought, even for self-talk.
OK, turkey bacon.”
J.T. Patten

“Havens reached into his ear and pinched enough of the latex with his fingernails to withdraw the device. He dropped it on the ground and crushed it under his foot. He didn’t care if it was found. It was French-made. Procured for that very purpose.
F*** overwatch. Screw the French.”

Gentry pushed him forward. "After expenses, I'm really more like a soldier of the middle class.”

J.T. Patten, Safe Havens: Shadow Masters

“Havens turned again.
Someone else passed between the trucks.
That someone walked with less purpose than the other workers near the stalls. To Havens this meant a surveillance asset was on him and it probably was not an assassination attempt. It eased him back into relative comfort for just a moment or two more.”
