Today was a historic moment for our nation.  Garry Brown, Tennessee District Attorney, announced that he has re-opened the investigation into the 1940 murder of whom some have identified as the “first martyr of the civil rights movement”, Elbert Williams.

Mr. Elbert Williams was a bright, outspoken 31-year-old family-oriented man in the predominantly black community of Haywood County, Tennessee...

“If not us, then who?
If not now, then when?”
John E. Lewis
Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler
“There are certain truths which stand out so openly on the roadsides of life, as it were, that every passer-by may see them. Yet, because of their obviousness, the general run of people disregard such truths or at least they do not make them the object of any concious knowledge. People are so bliend to some of the simplest facts in everyday life that they are highly surprised when somebody calls attention to what everybody ought to know.”

Wailing Wall by Deedra Climer
"I won this book in the Goodreads Giveaway. Wailing Wall is a very well written account of a mother's grief over having lost her son to a motorcycle accident. A quick read, it is very straightforward and emotionally compelling. I like that it isn't..." Read more of this review »
Wailing Wall by Deedra Climer
"Full disclosure: the author is in my writing group. I'm a picky reader and have a critical eye, so take the following with that in mind.

I sat down with this on a beautiful fall afternoon; blue skies, a breeze swirling golden oak leaves around me,..." Read more of this review »

Lorraine Hansberry
“The thing that makes you exceptional, if you are at all, is inevitably that which must also make you lonely.”
Lorraine Hansberry

Jim Morrison
“People are afraid of themselves, of their own reality; their feelings most of all. People talk about how great love is, but that’s bullshit. Love hurts. Feelings are disturbing. People are taught that pain is evil and dangerous. How can they deal with love if they’re afraid to feel? Pain is meant to wake us up. People try to hide their pain. But they’re wrong. Pain is something to carry, like a radio. You feel your strength in the experience of pain. It’s all in how you carry it. That’s what matters. Pain is a feeling. Your feelings are a part of you. Your own reality. If you feel ashamed of them, and hide them, you’re letting society destroy your reality. You should stand up for your right to feel your pain.”
Jim Morrison

Dalai Lama XIV
“If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.”
Dalai Lama XIV

Booker T. Washington
“I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.”
Booker T. Washington, Up From Slavery: An Autobiography

“Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving.”
W.T. Purkiser
