If it does happen, I will put the manuscript aside for a few weeks and just 'think' about the problem; for me that typically means a plot issue so I think my way through the blockage and once I have found a resolution, I resume writing. If this does not work, I will turn to another story that I'm working on and move ahead with it until I get the urge to return to the original work. If too much time is elapsing and I can feel myself becoming disconnected from the characters in my story, I will return to writing but at a different place in the story; start a new scene farther into the plot. Later, I go back and sew the two sections together.(less)

I also enjoy the solitary nature of developing characters; living quietly in my head they become my 'friends'. I'd find myself saying, "That's something Alexi would do," having become so attached to my protagonist that I knew her every thought, mood, and action. These 'friends' are mine alone until the publishing date when it became my significant pleasure to usher them out the door to greet the readers. (less)

Here are the things COVID 19 is teaching me.

Like most people around the world, I am practicing self-isolation and social distancing. I’m working from home, but only few hours a day, which leaves me with an immense amount of free time to contemplate my navel. Now six weeks in, I’ve started to notice things I was previously too busy and distracted by life to notice. For example, I noticed last week how tiny red ants love the fallen cherry tre Read more of this blog post »

Another great read from my all time favourite author. Kristin Hannah never lets you down with her stories. Not sure how I missed this one published in 2012, but glad to finally get my hands on it!

I love reading anything by ED. This novel is no exception. How amazing to be writing this story as history repeats itself with COVID 19 breaking out around the world 100 years later. Sobering, difficult read, but told with so much humanity and heart. ...more

“The wise crow knows
I'm a child of the fall.
Copper and brass, gusty wind blows.
Vivid, cloudless skies, watch shivering naked trees stand tall.
Hope, sweet and eager, does rise
from rust-soaked vistas to shining eyes.
Here, to forever, my beating heart goes;
something the old crow already knows.”
