Maria Chiara Marsciani was born in Rimini, Italy, a mid-size beach town located on the Adriatic Sea. After moving to Rome where she was trained as a clinical psychologist, she relocated to California and spent almost thirteen years in San Francisco. Now, she lives in Potomac, MD with her daughter.

Writing has always been her passion, but only recently she decided to stop hiding her works. She published her first novel 'Urbino, Unexpectedly' in January 2014 and she is currently working on the her second novel.

When she doesn't write, her favorite activities are spending time with her family, reading, gardening, trying out new recipes to cook for family and friends, and taking care of her pets.

I'm right in the middle of it and my first reaction, of course, is procrastination. Doctor appointments, house chores, my daughter's homework, text messages to read, everything becomes a good expedient not to write and a desperate way not to think. But it doesn't work. The more I try to ignore it, the more it creeps up on me affecting my mood, my days and my nights. The only thing that really works for me is to take a deep breath (thank you yoga for teaching me this simple, but often underestimated action!), force myself to sit in front of what I already wrote and to start reading it. It takes a few minutes, but eventually the initial physical and mental discomfort disappears, the need to run away subdues and things start flowing again. Focusing on old words inspires new ideas.
The hardest part is getting to sit down and take that deep breath...(less)

Sometimes, it is a feeling associated with a memory and the desire to examine it, other times it is a simple conversation with family and friends that triggers my curiosity. But it is always something that interests me. In "Urbino, Unexpectedly" for example, it was the need to explore my italian roots and that peculiar moment in life when a person, still young and immature, has to make decisions that will affect the rest of her/his life, has to take actions and risks that will have consequences, and has no choice but to take a leap of faith. Now, with my new book, I felt the need to investigate a mature relationship and how life, with its unexpected ups and downs, can affect personal expectations, the balance of a 'happy family', and the dymamics of an entire neighboorhood.
