Music Remakes- Give a listen and tell me what you think
Ok, I am one of those that usually hate music remakes because there is just something wrong with great songs performed by different artists in different ways. Here lately I have found myself changing my opinion due to the soundtrack of Grey’s Anatomy. The musical episode aside (though if you haven’t checked it out you really should), they have great versions of beloved songs. First on the list is “Man in the Mirror” origianlly by the King of Pop, but the newer version by J2 featuring Cameron the Public is awesome! Then “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Jill Andrews, is just beautiful.
Of course this does not mean that every song should be redone, and I am usually an advocate for songs by Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley need to be left alone, but I think that hearing a GOOD different take on some songs can have some merit. For instance I do not care for Lady Gaga, but find her songs better when Glee or anyone really, redoes them. Some songs that shouldn’t be messed with can be revived by others only if they do justice to the original, in my opinion.

Book Review: “The Giver” 5/5 Stars
Overview: In a world where everyone and everything is the same, Jonas is selected to be The Receiver. A prominent and important member of society, he is chosen to receive memories of past generations. He received feelings, colors and gains wisdom at a mere age of 12.
Opinion: A wonderful book. It is amazing to read about everyday things we take for granted and see them in a new light through Jonas, who experiences everything for the first time. I can only imagine it as being blind from birth and finally being able to see.
Recommend: Yes.
Location of book: I found on Amazon and am unable to provide a link as it is storming and has knocked out my internet.

Book Review: “Banshee’s Embrace” 5/5 stars
Overview: Jacqueline is coming home to her husband after a long day of work, to find a bit of odd weather brewing there. Once home she is attacked and her husband killed while she almost dies herself. A year later weirder things are still happening but now she knows she is being hunted and the bartender does more than serve drinks.
Opinion: Awesome! I first just checked it out to see any similarities in Banshee powers, but soon forgot about that as I was sucked into the story. The characters are well written and the plot is well executed. I can’t wait to read the other two in the series.

Book Review: “A Very Coco Christmas: A Delicious Prequella to the Coco Pinchard Series” 3/5 Stars
Overview: Coco is a University student with an overbearing snobbish mother, who falls for a wrong side of the tracks boy and brings him and his family over for Christmas dinner.
Opinion: It was a book series that was recommended to me by my Aunt. It certainly has it’s moments, but overall the book was just ok for me.
Recommend: Maybe.

Book Review: “Strictly G.I.: Letters of Cpl. Wanda M. Renn” 4/5 Stars
Overview: Letters written by Cpl. Wanda M. Renn, a member of WWII’s WAAC company, to her mother back home. They cover her life from boot camp, to living in French North Africa, with more information about her life after the war.
Opinion: The introduction to what was going on and who the woman was in relation to the author was great, but it was the steady stream of letters that was sort of a let down. The letters themselves were wonderful and amazing to read, but they were only from Wanda so there were some gaps. If there was information that explained somethings in the letters or perhaps letters that she received from her mother and sister, it would have made for a better read. It was great to be able to read these letters and see through her eyes what it was like for women in WWII, and it shines a light on history and how far we have come with women’s rights in the military. The author is her granddaughter, and is able to give firsthand information from her family about what they would go through waiting for letters or what the responses were but that is where the book falls short.
Recommend: Yes

Book Review: “Dead Highways: Origins Book 1″ 4/5 Stars
Overview: Jimmy is a 22 year old virgin that lives with his grandma, in the upstairs apartment of their bookstore. His only friends consist of secondhand books, the old lady customers who pinch his cheeks and a drug addict he gives change to occasionally. Then he meets a prostitute and everything starts changing fast. He has to buy a gun, a strange event happens across the county on the West coast, but rapidly spreads to his home town in Florida and around the world. He and a handful of others are the only known people to still be uninfected. They band together to survive, but no one really seems to know how to handle the situation.
Opinion: For my very first zombie book, it was pretty good…though I have nothing to compare it to. It was heavy in over used phrases and pop culture references, which isn’t bad but it is a gamble on people knowing or not knowing them. That aside, the story was fast paced and full of suspense. Nothing really did grip me until the zombies finally appeared and am left wanting more because they don’t seem like normal zombies.
Recommendation: Yes.

Birthday Weirdness
My birthday is December 23. I (and am sure many others) find it interesting to see who else I share a birthday with. It is kind of cool to know that someone famous was born the same day as you. So I was goofing around and looked it yesterday, and found some cool people, like Alexander I Tsar of Russia. I find that awesome, because I was always a little fascinated with the story of their family.
With the good, also comes the bad. It’s going to happen, but it puts a damper on your birthday if you know you share(d) the day with a notorious serial killer. For instance, I share my birthday with Kurt Meyer aka Panzermeyer. He was an officer in the Waffen-SS. A bad dude to share a birthday with, it could have been worse but still bad.
Then I also noticed a pattern, I could just be crazy and it is a coincidence, but there were also a lot of writers throughout the years born on December 23. I also looked up my cousin’s birthday, to see if a pattern could be fashioned, and he is no musician or politician but there were tons of both on that day (August 29). That is where the pattern fell apart, but I think that if he took better care of himself he could be a good politician.
If our birthday were to depict the type of profession we enter, than I could be a writer or a murderer (among other things). What would you be?

Update
The following pictures are from my front porch. The clouds are parting on the side the storm is coming FROM and building where it is going TO. Here is the kicker, Iselle hasn’t even fully hit yet. I don’t think my house is going to get anything but a little wind and rain.
