The Dark Tower TV Show Would ‘For Sure’ Include Idris Elba
The long-proposed The Dark Tower television spinoff is still on track, and Idris Elba will almost certainly be involved. For the past ten years, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, and Akiva Goldsman have been working on not only bringing Stephen King’s The Dark Tower book series to the big screen, but the small one as well. Long before Marvel had a shared film and television universe, the plan was for The Dark Tower to bounce back and forth between a film and season of TV. The idea sounded audacious at the time, but with the first movie finally arriving next month and the entertainment landscape changed, the Dark Tower TV show is still on track.
Before the movie can jump to TV, however, it needs to prove there’s an audience. The international Dark Tower trailer has continued to sell the adaptation, while everything from Dark Tower posters to a Funko line has been trying to get fans and newcomers excited for what could be the next big blockbuster franchise. In anticipation of the film’s success, it looks like the television show is moving along and will borrow at least one star from the film.
Deadline spoke with Goldsman, who’s both producing and co-writing The Dark Tower. According to him, not only has work begun on the TV spinoff, but Elba is very much involved:

“The first episode of a show has been written, and we hope to retain Ron’s original idea to mix platforms, something that seemed revolutionary 10 years ago but now is something that others have done. Idris for sure is part of this, and if the movie is Roland Deschain the gunslinger, the show is his origin story, based on the fourth novel in the series, Wizard and Glass.”
Elba is no stranger to TV, having made a name for himself with shows like Luther and The Wire. Thanks to his ability to walk that line, it’s not hard to see him co-starring in a Dark Tower TV show on a premium network. It’s also exciting to hear the first episode is already written, meaning the minds behind the series are confident enough to start testing the waters.
We’ve known for years that Wizard and Glass would serve as the first season of a TV show. Since most of it is told in a flashback that details a major part of the Gunslinger’s origin, it makes sense for a spinoff. While it can borrow from the film and feature bookends with Elba, the entire cast and setting would be brand new. It would also allow new viewers to dive into the universe without necessarily having to see the Dark Tower movie first.
While Star Wars and Marvel have both used TV and film to tell stories, The Dark Towerwould still be pioneering in continuing one specific tale across the two mediums. While it seemed like a pipe dream to fans all those years ago, the imminent arrival of The Dark Tower in theaters makes it all the more plausible.

Emirates Airline Caught Pouring Unused Champagne Back Into Bottle
A representative for Emirates airline said in an email to International Business Time that the request for a comment on the viral video has been sent to its Dubai office. This article will be updated when a response is received.
Original Story:
A video showing an Emirates airline steward pouring champagne from a glass back into a bottle went viral Thursday. The clip, which was taken by a passenger on board the Airbus A380, was shared on Reddit.
The clip, which lasts only for few seconds, was also posted on Streamable and had received over one million views at the time of publishing this story. According to the user who shared the video, the incident was accidentally captured on camera.
“Emirates accidentally got into the frame, did not even notice at first … Dump the bottle of champagne not drunk. Or this is the norm?” one Reddit user wrote, directing the question at the @emirates Instagram page. “So this woman might be trying to get as much as she can,” another user commented.
While many users criticized the airline for pouring in half consumed champagne back into the bottle, some said it is possible the steward poured the drinks that were not consumed.

This year has been quite rough for airlines as many videos have surfaced on social media pointing out the flaws of the cabin crew. However, most of these incidents did not involve Emirates airline or its staff.
Earlier this month, United Airlines issued an apology to a Hawaii middle-school teacher as the airline gave away her 27-month-old son’s seat to a standby passenger. In another incident, United Airlines’ employees were accused of destroying a custom wheelchair belonging to a 24-year-old man who suffered from a severe spinal condition.
In June, a Colorado woman criticized the United Airlines for not allowing her to leave a delayed flight after her infant son fell ill due to a rise in the cabin temperature.
United Airlines has seen a slew of complaints since the David Dao incident that took place in April when a passenger was violently dragged away from United’s Chicago-Louisville flight due to overbooking.
Not only United Airlines, but American Airlines and Delta Air Lines have also come under criticism for several incidents. Most recently, a woman accused an American Airlines’ flight attended for forcing her to sit next to a man who masturbated while she slept during a flight to Paris.
“I woke up right before landing to have a flight attendant call me to the back of the plane and inform me that the man sitting next to me had been masturbating beside me while I slept,” Chloe King of New York wrote. “The woman to his other side saw it and happened and asked to be moved and the French police had been notified to arrest the man upon landing – they just wanted to let me know.”

Dutch prisons are closing because the country is so safe
In 2013, 19 prisons in the Netherlands closed because the country didn’t have enough criminals to fill them.
Now, five more are slated to close their doors by the end of the summer, according to internal documents obtained by The Telegraaf.
While these closures will result in the loss of nearly 2,000 jobs, only 700 of which will transition into other unknown roles within Dutch law enforcement, the trend of closing prisons follows a steady drop in crime since 2004.
The problem of empty jail cells has even gotten to the point where, last September, the country imported 240 prisoners from Norway just to keep the facilities full.
Still, according to The Telegraaf’s report, Justice Minister Ard van der Steur announced to parliament that the cost of maintaining sparsely-filled prisons was cost-prohibitive for the small country.
A number of factors underlie the Netherlands’ ability to keep its crime rate so low, namely, relaxed drug laws, a focus on rehabilitation over punishment, and an electronic ankle monitoring system that allows people to re-enter the workforce.
A study published in 2008 found the ankle monitoring system reduced the recidivism rate by up to half compared to traditional incarceration. Instead of wasting away in a jail cell, eating up federal dollars, convicted criminals are given the opportunity to contribute to society.
These measures all add up to an unbelievably low incarceration rate: Although the Netherlands has a population of 17 million, only 11,600 people are locked up. That’s a rate of 69 incarcerations per 100,000 people.
The US, meanwhile, has a rate of 716 per 100,000 — the highest in the world. It’s marked largely by its lack of attention to social services and rehabilitation programs once prisoners finish their sentences. Without a safety net to give them any other options, many fall back into their old habits.

You can now pay for audiobooks and e-books from iBooks via Paypal
Apple has just made purchasing digital content from iBooks a little bit easier for people who do not have a credit card. The company has just incorporated Paypal for users in Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the United States.
Until now, Apple has only allowed users to buy digital content with either a credit card or gift card credit. The addition of PayPal will no doubt encourage even more users to make purchases using Apple’s services as it rolls out worldwide.

Once users have updated their account settings for the above services, all future purchases made with the customer’s Apple ID will be automatically charged to their PayPal account. This includes purchases of apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books, as well as Apple Music subscriptions and iCloud storage. It will also allow you to make purchases with the Apple TV and iWatch.
This is bigger news than most people realize. Shares of PayPal have traded as low as $36.28 over the past 52-weeks. It closed on Tuesday at $54.94.

The deal is centered around songwriter, producer, publisher and DJ Jesse Frasure. Under the deal, Frasure’s new venture, Rhythm House, will handle his songwriting and production work in addition to signing and developing new writers and producers.
Frasure was recently at Major Bob Music and has worked with artists such as Florida Georgia Line and Meghan Trainor.
“I’m honored and grateful to begin this next chapter with partners like Roc Nation and Warner/Chappell, whom I’ve admired throughout my career,” Frasure said in a news release.
Warner/Chappell Music promoted BJ Hill to vice president of A&R as part of the deal as well.
“There is nothing like working with the right individuals, at the right time, forming the right partnership,” said Jay Brown, Roc Nation co-founder and president. “Launching Roc Nation Nashville with Warner/Chappell Music Nashville is a natural extension of the relationship we started so many years ago, and our venture with Jesse Frasure and his Rhythm House take the possibilities to a next level.”
Brown lauded Frasure’s creative talents in prepared comments on Tuesday. Frasure co-produced Thomas Rhett’s sophomore album, “Tangled Up,” and has spun for celebrity clients across the world in his work as a DJ.

Jean-Claude Van Damme Got Fired From Predator In The Most Van Damme Way Possible
The Predator was almost going to be very fond of doing splits. Originally a then-unknown, Jean-Claude Van Damme was hired to play the lethal alien hunter in 1987’s Predator. However, Van Damme was fired early in production and was replaced by Kevin Peter Hall. Why exactly Van Damme was fired is something of a cinema urban legend, as no one can quite agree on what happened. Of the different stories for why Van Damme was let go, this one might be the best: Van Damme was fired as Predator because he refused to stop kickboxing. According to visual effects supervisor Joel Hynek:
I was in Joel Silver’s trailer, and he had called for Jean-Claude to come see him. And he comes in the trailer and Joel starts saying, ‘You gotta stop kickboxing!’ — because [Jean-Claude] wanted to kickbox — and he was telling him, ‘Look, the Predator is not a kickboxer.’ And Van Damme was like (Van Damme voice), ‘I must do that; that’s how I see the Predator.’ And Joel said, ‘Well, you’re fired. Get out of here.’ And Van Damme says, “Kiss my balls!” and walks out, and that was the end of that.
It’s the 30-year anniversary of Predator, and The Hollywood Reporter has assembled a massive oral history of the behind-the-scenes story of how the popular sci-fi thriller was made. If you’re a Predator superfan, it’s absolutely worth the read, as it details the many number of struggles the production went through. It also attempts to solve the mystery behind Jean-Claude Van Damme’s firing, and the answer is that no one really knows why. Several different versions of the story exist, including this one from Joel Hynek.
The visual effects supervisor was with producer Joel Silver when it all went down, and according to him, Van Damme was let go because he kept trying to make the Predator do kickboxing. The Predator isn’t really a mixed martial arts kind of alien, so Silver told Van Damme to knock it off. When Van Damme said no, Silver did what you do with any actor who won’t cooperate and fired him. Kudos, though, to Van Damme for telling Silver to kiss his balls even though it was mostly his fault. That took…well, you know.
If one thing is clear about Van Damme’s firing, it’s that no one is clear about what happened. THR collected six different stories on what went down, three of which are first-person accounts. Everyone is in agreement that Van Damme didn’t like the suit (a feeling shared by everyone else involved) and that he clashed with Joel Silver. The stories diverge from there and the reasons include: Van Damme was too short to play the Predator, he kept passing out due to the heat, Fox executives didn’t like the suit and Van Damme was collateral damage, he complained too often about the filming conditions and he shattered the $20,000 head for the costume. All are really distinct, detailed reasons, so why no one is on the same page is a mystery in of itself.
An all-new Predator movie is on the way, with The Predator scheduled to hit theaters on August 3, 2018. To learn everything about director Shane Black’s version, check out what we know so far.
