After Obsession goes to Germany
Today I added my signature to a contract that will see After Obsession, the young adult novel written with mega-star Carrie Jones, published in Germany. Woohoo! Many thanks to Edward Necarsulmer IV at McIntosh & Otis, Inc. for his untiring efforts in our bid for world domination. Or at least global saturation.
My paternal great-grandparents immigrated to the U.S. from Germany, so this is a translation that is special to me. I look forward to seeing it.

Review: Education of a Wandering Man

Education of a Wandering Man by Louis L’Amour
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
The more I read, the lower my rating went on this one. Basically, it reminded me why I don’t really care for L’Amour’s fiction. His anecdotes and stories about his “knockabout years” were entertaining, but his lectures — and I’d say more than half the book was him lecturing — started grating on my nerves to the point I was reading his words and hearing them in the condescending voice of “Big Bang Theory” character Sheldon...

The SHARA giveaway
A couple of weeks ago I was in a local thrift store and, to my surprise, found a copy of the 3F Publications edition of Shara on a shelf of books. If I trust my former publisher, there were only about 200 copies of this edition printed, so it was kind of a shock to find a copy. Only recently I’d trunked my one remaining brand new copy and ordered another from an online used book dealer to keep with the copies of my work I refer back to when continuing a story. Well, now I have my trunked copy...

Review: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I might have given this a four-star review if I hadn’t seen the movie first. I guess it was a case where the movie followed the book too closely, as there were no surprises here after seeing the film. Also, things seemed to happen a little too coincidentally for Harry in this one. The enchanted car saving Harry and Ron from the spiders, for instance, just really stretched that willingness to suspend disbelief.
I e...

Little Graveyard audiobook available now
I’m very pleased to announce that the audiobook version of my novella Little Graveyard on the Prairie is now available for download from Audible.com, Amazon.com, and the iTunes store.
Here’s a little description of the story:
Harley Shaw’s life is falling apart around him. His best pasture is ruined. His cattle are gone. His wife is gone. His daughter is gone. His sanity is slipping away, and there may be dead people taunting him.
Dead ain’t gone, and gone ain’t dead.
After his land was ruined in...

Summer and Youth
You are young, and want the moon to drink from as a cup of gold. Reaching and straining to catch the moon, you may catch a firefly. But if you grow up you will realise that you cannot have the moon, and would not want it if you could. And you will catch no fireflies.
– John Steinbeck, Cup of Gold
Summer is here. The other day I was lying in bed late in the morning and the wind was blowing outside. It was a sunny morning and the wind blowing the thick branches of the maple tree in our backyard w...

Review: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I think Lewis Carroll must have been eating some of those magic mushrooms himself. A very strange book that had wonderful characters doing nothing at all.

KSBI TV interview
Here’s a link to the video of an interview I did with KSBI TV on May 18. I sound like I just rode my horse from the crick runnin’ through the back 40.
