Kelley Armstrong has been telling stories since before she could write. Her earliest written efforts were disastrous. If asked for a story about girls and dolls, hers would invariably feature undead girls and evil dolls, much to her teachers' dismay. All efforts to make her produce "normal" stories failed.

Today, she continues to spin tales of ghosts and demons and werewolves, while safely locked away in her basement writing dungeon. She's the author of the NYT-bestselling "Women of the Otherworld" paranormal suspense series and "Darkest Powers" young adult urban fantasy trilogy, as well as the Nadia Stafford crime series. Armstrong lives in southwestern Ontario with her husband, kids and far too many pets.

He won't like being away at college by himself, even if it's only for a single term (as they discuss in Atoning) but he'll survive.
I wouldn't say he's significantly better looking now, but that doesn't mean no girl would notice him. He'd treat it the same way Clay does--or Elena or Chloe. He's found what he's wants to purchase so he's done shopping ;)(less)

I'm always encouraging readers to review/rate books because it makes a huge difference for us. Even a critical review helps readers make choices. However, I've refrained from rating anything myself here because...well, as an author, I don't want to give a poor review to a "colleague"! I've decided to start rating my reads, but only if I can give them a 4 or 5. I've zoomed through and rated my r... Read more of this blog post »

“You forget, darling.
I am the local psychopath.”
Kelley Armstrong, Bitten

“Derek caught my arm again as I started to move--at this rate, it was going to be as sore as my injured one.
"Dog," he said, jerking his chin toward the fenced yard. "It was inside earlier."
Expecting to see a Doberman slavering at the fence, I followed his gaze to a little puff of white fur, the kind of dog women stick in their purses. It wasn't even barking, just staring at us, dancing in place.
"Oh, my God! It's a killer Pomeranian." I glanced up at Derek. "It's a tough call, but I think you can take him.”
Kelley Armstrong, The Awakening

“He pivoted, gaze following me as I crossed to the shower and turned on the cold water, so it would drown out our conversation without steaming up the room.
Great," he muttered."Now they're going to think we're showering together. Maybe we can just tell them we were washing off the crawl space dirt and trying to conserve water.”

Roger Cottrell Hey Kelly,
ANYONE who writes crime thrillers AND science fiction is cool by me. I write both and they are definitely my two favourite genres both as a producer and consumer, so to speak. Of my three self published novels two are crime thrillers (one an alternative history the other a retrospective thriller) and the third is a tribute both to MNR James and Nigel Kneale's Quatermass. My two graphic novels are a dystopian cyberpunk thriller (shortlisted for the 2005 UPC award) and a supernatural thriller about vampires respectively. The latter is also a feature film script. I've adapted ENEMY WITHIN (which has a pucker publisher in April) as a TV mini series and have about eight feature film scripts ranging from crime and political thrillers through to horror and a superhero movie. Would love to chat sometime.

Patrick Hadrian Just finished Living With the Dead. Another home run. I really love Hope...another great character. You are my favourite author of this genre Ms. Armstrong. I was lucky enough to stumbled across Bitten back around Christmas '01, and find a British import of the hardbound later. I've been with you for the whole ride. The thing that is truly impressive is that your work has always improved, and you've never settled for second rate. Quite a few authors, once they have people hooked, quality goes out the window so that they can meet their yearly end of October deadline. You never have, and I wanted to thank you for that. I was never concerned when your books went to hardbound because I've always been able to pick up your new books with confidence knowing that I'll love it. Thanks for that...truly.

Oh yeah, could you Twitter more please? :)

Shamset thanks

Julianna I really enjoyed reading the summoning!

message 10: by Kelley

Kelley Katie,
Yep, I always plan to do NaNo and for the last few years it's worked out. It's always dependent on my schedule, though--one of these years I'm going to have edits land on my desk in November and I'll be outta luck for NaNo that time around!

Kelsey Thank you so much for accepting my friend invite! I absolutely love your Darkest Powers books, they are so addictive, exciting, and I can not wait for the third. I am currently hand drawing pics for the video contest, so far so good. I was wondering though, can an entry for the contest be a trailer for both The Summoning and The Awakening or just each book separately done on two videos?

Samantha My friend’s 11 yr old daughter (Leah) received a book series (that I will not name) as a Christmas gift. This series is geared towards 10-13 yr old girls, and it was assumed that it would be a suitable series for her to read. She left it at my place, and I dutifully noted that she was on page 29 when I decided to read the first few chapters. By page 55, I had to call my friend and read her a paragraph that described a sex act. It was decided that I would read the entire series and see if it was suitable or not (we would have blacked out this part if it was the only bit). It wasn’t. It got worse. Now, as a precaution, I pre-read all the popular series out there, and give the yay or nay. The Darkest Powers series has received a huge YAY. I am a big fan of the Otherworld series, and I enjoyed the three books in the DP series immensely. Thanks for giving us these wonderful books, and creating these fantastic worlds to escape to . September 25th is a planned date for Leah and I, as we head to The Smart Chicks Kick It Tour to (fingers crossed) meet you and get our favourite books signed.

message 36: by Brooke

Keep writing,
