6 Quick and Free Crochet Easter Patterns

Crochet Easter Pattern Roundup:

Last week I showed you the great easter projects that Red Heart has for FREE on their website. This week I have found six more cute crochet Easter patterns that are quick and FREE. Be sure to head to Ravelry and add these patterns to your favorites and show the designers some love.

*This post contains affiliate links. If you purchase something from one of the links in this email a small portion of the order will go back to the blog, the price you pay will not change. Thank you for your support.*

[image error]To start us off, I found the Crochet Spring Bunny Wreath, designed by Repeat Crafter me. Talk about a super cute project that you could work up in one night! With a quick trip to the craft store you could college all the materials that you need for this project. This would be a great opportunity to use your paper crafting machine if you have one to decorate the sentiment that you choose.

[image error]Although the pattern calls for Bernat Blanket yarn you could substitute that with Red Heart Sweet yarn. Using the mauve color for the center of the ears would give this pattern a little twist. Sweet yarn will provide you the same look as in the patten as both yarns are a super bulky chenille-style yarn.

Due to the nature of the yarn the ends can be a little harder to manage the first time you use it. Head to my YouTube channel to see my video about joining a new ball of sweet yarn to your project.[image error]

[image error]When I discovered the wreath pattern on Repeat Crafter Me’s (C2C Queen) website I also saw her latest Corner-to-Corner design.  As another crochet Easter pattern she has created a pillow sham to fit a standard queen size pillow picturing the backside of bunnies. Including their bushy tails!

[image error]Bernat Super Value is featured in this pattern but could easily be change to Red Heart Super Saver to achieve the same look. Some of you may not have ventured into the C2C world yet and that is okay. I have a blog post on Corner-to-Corner and it includes a video tutorial that shows you how to do the technique. My video tutorial shows you how to do C2C in half double crochet, my preferred stitch, but the concept will transfer easily to double crochet stitches as well.

Craftsy

[image error]All About Ami designed another cute bunny pillow pattern for Easter, the Snuggle Bunny Pillows. This pattern calls for Lion Brand Fast Track yarn which is a super bulky t-shirt tape yarn.

[image error]Red Heart’s Strata is a nice alternative. It is composed of Nylon and Acrylic and will give you the same feel of the t-shirt type yarns. For the embellishments you can use Red Heart’s Creme de la Creme cotton yarn.

Baby's Buddy Amigurumi

[image error]Following along with our bunny theme I found two cute baskets that could be finished quickly for your Easter events. The first is a carrot basket designed by Divine Debris. In the It’s Carrots for You basket you will be able to use Red Heart Simple Saver. Designed using tapestry crochet not only could you make a cute and quick Easter pattern but also learn a new technique.

[image error]Moogly also published a cute basket called the Long Eared Bunny Basket. Red Heart’s Grande yarn would be a great choice for this pattern as well.[image error]

The final pattern I have for you in my Quick and FREE Crochet Easter Pattern Roundup is a set of egg shaped placemats designed by Linda Permann. Linda’s Easter Egg Placemat pattern is designed in Red Heart Super Saver. Super Saver offers you a lot of options to make the perfect striped egg for your family. These would be great for Easter morning breakfast and for the whole family at Easter dinner.

Hopefully you loved these patterns as much as I did and you will try to make some of them for Easter.

Candy Apple Cardigan:

The Candy Apple Cardigan is a crochet counterpart to the Midnight in Paris Knit Cardigan. The Candy Apple Cardigan is a flattering and versatile, tie-front sweater. Transitioning easily from season to season with its open lace pattern and wool content. Create a simple knot in the front at the waist leaving the long ends dangling for an effortless, playful look. Or, wrap the ties around your waist and tie in the back for a fitted and elegant style. However you wear it, the lovely fabric created by this lace stitch pattern will be both gorgeous and comfortable. You won’t want to take it off.

[image error]When I designed the Candy Apple Cardigan I used my friend Drew Emborsky’s “Gemstones” (90% merino wool, 10% nylon) yarn. Gemstones yarn is no longer in circulation but a great alternative is Knit Picks’ Hawthorne Sport Multi Yarn. This yarn is also a sport weight yarn but is composed of 80% Superwash Fine Highland Wool, 20% Polyamide (Nylon), which is very close to the original yarn.

In the pattern you will find a schematic along with charts for the stitch pattern. As you work on the pattern you will have the choice of reading the text or working from the chart. Offered in six sizes you will be able to find the right fit.

Gauge is important:

As in all of the other garments that I make, I highly suggest making a hanging gauge swatch before you get started. This is important to see how gravity will alter the size of your cardigan after wearing it. Starting with a swatch will also save you the headache of making the wrong size before you even start. To make a hanging gauge swatch I start by making a swatch of the stitch pattern that is at least 6 inches square. Then I hang the swatch to a hanger or cloths line and add additional cloths pins to the bottom to simulate gravity. Take a before and after measurement of your swatch to see what happens to it.

[image error]Be sure to add this pattern to your Ravelry Favorites and show me your version of the Candy Apple Cardigan as you finish.

Wearable Red Heart Soft Essentials Patterns

[image error] About Red Heart Soft Essentials:

Red Heart Soft Essentials is a new bulky (#5) weight yarn that is sold exclusively online and in Michael’s Craft Store. Soft Essentials is just like the Red Heart Soft yarn that you already love but now in a Bulky weight. In this post you will find a collection of eight wearable Soft Essential patterns. Be sure to show these designers some love on Ravelry by adding their patterns to your favorites list.

*This post contains affiliate links. If you click on one of these links and make a purchase a portion of your proceeds with go back to the blog, the price you pay will not change. Thank you for your support.*

New Crochet Kits at knitpicks.com

[image error] Soft Essentials is available in 15 solid colors and 6 stripe colors. The team at Red Heart did a great job of coordinating the colors so you can really mix any of them together to make a great project.

To learn more about Red Heart Soft Essentials you can visit some of the following stories:

Soft Essentials Michael’s Launch

Podcast episode with Cat Babbie
Textured Triangle Shawl KAL

Soft Essentials Patterns:

In the roundup today I am going to be sharing patterns that you can wear. There is only one knit pattern in this group so we will start with that one.

Knitted Red Heart Soft Essentials Patterns:

[image error]The knit pattern in the group is a cowl pattern that is designed by Naztazia, the Knitted Essential Beginner Cowl. Her cowl is a great beginner project and can be made in either solids or stripes. Naztazia’s pattern comes with a PDF download and a YouTube tutorial for you to follow along with.

Crochet Red Heart Soft Essentials Patterns:

[image error]In the Soft Essentials Pattern roundup I have three hat patterns for you. Two of the patterns are designed by Oombawka Designs. Both of her hat patterns are great for beginners. These hat patterns will show you the concept of increasing in the round.

[image error]The first hat, from Oombawka Designs, is the Simple Double Crochet Bulky Hat. Rhondda, the designer behind Oombawka Designs, made this pattern with sizes from premie to adult large. With so many options you will find the size you need. She offers the same size range in her second hat, the Basic Bulky Beanie.

[image error]Our third hat pattern is the Mentor Pom Pom Chunky Beanie Hat, designed by Posh Pooch Designs. This design has a lace feel to it with an open stitch pattern. Made in bulky yarn, the hat still provides a lot of warmth even with the spaces. Topped with a pom pom this hat can make the perfect gift for children and adults.

[image error]Oombawka makes another appearance on our Soft Essentials Pattern roundup with her Easy-on-Mittens. Again she offers you multiple sizes including children and a range of adult sizes.

[image error]Fiber Flux has a beautiful wrap pattern called the Lake House Wrap. For this pattern you will use three different colors of Red Heart Soft Essentials. Using the three colors gives this wonderful striped look to the wrap. You will find a YouTube tutorial to explain the pattern for you in the pattern’s blog post.

[image error]Designer Stitch 11 has a cute leg warmer pattern for kids. The Children’s Spring Crochet Leg Warmers would be a perfect little something to give a special child in your life as we make our way through spring. In the mornings, when it is still cool, this would be great to put over a pair of leggings or stockings.

[image error]To wrap up our Soft Essentials roundup I want to feature the Danielle Sweater designed by Sincerely Pam. This oversized sweater is fashion forward and a great layering piece that would work in many seasons. Recently Sincerely Pam had a CAL for this pattern in her Facebook group. She offered ways of altering the pattern to make the right fit for you.

Upcoming Soft Essentials Events:

I wanted to take a moment to remind you that I, along with Red Heart, will be hosting a Knit Along this May using Red Heart Soft Essentials. We will be working on the Textured Triangle Shawl, designed by Diane Moyer. You can get all of the details in the blog post I wrote about the event. Updates about the KAL can also be found in the FREE Facebook KAL group.

Stitches United Adventures with Franklin Habit

Stitches United Adventures with Franklin Habit

Stitches United Adventures with Franklin Habit was the topic for this Tuesday on the Yarn Thing [image error]podcast with Marly Bird.

Stitches United is just a couple of weeks away (April 27-30), hurry to make sure you sign up for classes, and the presentation ‘Follow Your Bunny’ with Franklin Habit.  (Here is the link for classes with Marly, bonus!) Franklin and Marly will also be teaching at Stitches Midwest (look for his bow-tie class on Sunday!). Before that, on July 22th, he will be at Wall of Yarn, teaching and being his wonderful self for the Halos of Hope A-Thon!

Franklin Habit can be followed through his website: www.the-panopticon.com, but he’s most active in Facebook or his Artist page, in addition to the other things we’ve mentioned. Watch for posts with Lion Brand, Fridays with Franklin with Makers Mercantile, [image error]0articles for Mason Dixon and Twist Collective, among others. Also, may I recommend his Instagram page? He’s be doing his wonderful cartoon drawings with a new tool over there. Completely awesome! Here is the links to his previous visits to Yarn Thing with Marly Bird in 2013, and 2015. last summer when he shared his new adult coloring book for knitters ‘I Dream of Yarn’.

Your Knit and Crochet Easter

Red Heart Free Easter Patterns:

Easter is almost here, there is only a little over a week left. Many of us like to make little things for the people we are going to be sharing Easter with and I have pulled together some great little projects for you. Below you will find a list of FREE patterns from Red Heart that you can create quickly for your Easter festivities. These patterns will help you to create your Knit and Crochet Easter.

Red Heart has put all of these great patterns together on their website. Check them out below and then head over to Red Heart’s website to get your FREE patterns.

*This post contains affiliate links. If you click a link and purchase from it a small portion of your purchase will go to support the blog. The price you pay will not be changed. Thank you for your support.*
Your Knit and Crochet Easter:

If you are hosting Easter dinner this year you can knit a few placemats and napkin rings for your dinner. The Five Little Bunnies crochet pattern and Easter Egg crochet pattern would make a great center piece or place setting decorations for you table as well. After dinner is over you could send these along with your guests as a little easter gift.

[image error][image error] [image error]

If you will be putting together Easter baskets for kids this year you could use any of the following patterns. There are two hat patterns, one with flowers and one of cute chicks. Creating your own Knit and Crochet Easter is easy with these quick hat patterns. You can tailor the colors of the Baby Chick Hat to fit each child’s individual style.

[image error][image error]

Another option for special items in your Easter basket is a toy to snuggle up with. There is a crochet and a knit bunny and a knit bunny pillow pal. Any child would love to snuggle up with one of these. Best of all the crochet bunny gives you the chance to play around with some fun fur yarn. This bunny is so soft that any child, or even adult, will love holding on to it.

[image error] [image error] [image error]

If the child that you are making for loves an 18″ doll Red Heart has you covered. They have a wonderful Easter Frock pattern and a Robe and Bunny Slippers that are perfect for the 18″ dolls.

If you make a pair of slippers for their 18″ doll be sure to make a quick pair for them too. Red Heart has the perfect pattern for bunny slippers.

[image error] [image error]

The last pattern in the Easter Pattern Roundup is the Cute Chickie Scrubby. This pattern is part of the 7 Months of Scrubby campaign that Red Heart is running. After you finish your Easter meal the Cute Chickie Scrubby can help you clean up. Made from Red Heart Scrubby Sparkle it has just enough toughness to clean all the dishes without scratching. Make this for yourself or for a friend so that they can have a little fun in their kitchen.

I hope that you all have a wonderful Knit and Crochet Easter and that you share any Easter items that you make on my Facebook page. Thank you to Red Heart for bringing us some great patterns.

Vickie Howell and the Knit Show

Vickie Howell and the Knit Show

Vickie Howell and the Knit Show was today’s topic on the Yarn Thing podcast with Marly Bird.

[image error]Vickie Howell is a cultivator of craft and community. She’s an author, designer, instructor, and broadcast personality in the D.I.Y. world with a penchant for motivational speaking, and social media marketing. Vickie is most well-known as the Host and Creative Consultant of DIY Network’s Knitty Gritty, her best selling knitting, crochet, and craft books, and her accessible, inclusive approach to nurturing the creative community via print, video and social media. She’s continued to rally the crafty troops as an internationally recognized blogger & magazine columnist; a Spokesperson and Ambassador for major brands like Patons, Bernat, Caron, Land’s End, and Clover Needlecrafts; video campaigns for companies such as HGTV, JoAnn, Ragu, Cannon, and Inkjoy; and as the Host and Co-Executive Producer of PBS’ Knitting Daily TV with Vickie Howell.

Vickie has a HOT NEW project in the works, The Knit Show, and she’s doing a crowd-fund program to get it off the ground. She says: ‘Last week I joined thousands of other entrepreneurs — from inventors and authors, to artisans and filmmakers — by embarking on my own crowdfunding journey on Kickstarter for: “The Knit Show with Vickie [image error]Howell”. Although the campaign is going well so far, it bares mentioning that currently the biggest obstacle to getting people to crowd fund a project like mine, is the lack of knowledge — especially in the general population (I’m talking to you, nanas and pop-pops!) — about what crowdfunding actually is. In my experience, however if you’re willing to talk to the people about the things, then they’re usually open to listening to what you have to say. In that spirit, I jumped onto Facebook Live over the weekend to explain the whats, whys and who’s who of crowdfunding on Kickstarter, and why I’m using it (and you should, too!) to fund a really exciting project. Click HERE to watch, and share wherever it may be helpful.’

You can follow Vickie Howell through her website: www.VickieHowell.com, her Facebook page, Ravelry Designer page, YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram, and Twitter.  There is also a wonderful selection of online classes at CreativeLive.com.  CLICK HERE if you would like to hear Vickie’s earlier visit to Yarn Thing from 2016 or 2014.

If you missed watching this LIVE through her Facebook page, it’s available at this link or at this episode link for the podcast audio: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/yarnthing/2017/04/06/vickie-howell-and-the-knit-show

The format of this Knit-Along will be the same as in the past. We will run the event for four weeks and each week, starting May 3rd, you will get a new video tutorial from me and the written instructions for that section. The Textured Triangle Shawl is a great project for those of you looking to expand your knitting skills. We will work on knitted lace in this project. Finished shawl measures 70″ [178 cm] at widest top edge and 30″ [76 cm] at longest point at center back, so it’s one-size-fits-all. With the shawl being one-size-fits-all you won’t have to worry about making adjustments in size. Join us in the Textured Triangle Shawl Knit-Along and you will have a wonderful spring wardrobe staple to use on cool nights and in air conditioned buildings.

How to Crochet Sliced Apple Scrubby

[image error] 7 Months of Red Heart Scrubby:

If you haven’t heard yet Red Heart is running a 7 Months of Scrubby campaign. Each month there is a new theme of FREE Scrubby patterns from Red Heart. April’s theme is fruit and today I will show you how to crochet the Sliced Apple Scrubby.

*This post contains affiliate links. By clicking on one of the links below you may be giving a small percentage of your purchase back to the blog. The price that you pay is not changed. Thank you for your support.*

Sliced Apple Scrubby:

[image error]Below you will find the YouTube tutorial that I created for the pattern. You will notice in the video that I used Red Heart with Love for the sample. I did this so that you could see the stitches better. You will notice that the Scrubby yarn does not have definition to the stitches. This is great to hide any small mistakes that you may make but it isn’t the best for showing you how to make the piece.

The Sliced Apple Scrubby is made from Scrubby yarn but you could change the yarn that you use to turn the pattern into an applique for another project. In my post about the Playful Penguin Baby Blanket we talked about changing out the applique to match the recipient of the blanket. The Playful Penguin Baby Blanket is another FREE pattern on Red Heart’s website.

New Crochet Kits at knitpicks.com

Facebook Live Event:

Each month during the 7 Months of Scrubby Campaign I will be hosting a Facebook Live about the current month. The Live event is scheduled for the 12th of each month. Be sure to like my Facebook page and join us on the 12th. This month the Live event will be hosted on Red Heart’s page. You can get reminders about the event on my page.

During the live event I will show you the samples of the FREE patterns and you will have a chance to win a prize package from Red Heart!

Carson Demers and Knitting Comfortably

Carson Demers and Knitting Comfortably

Carson Demers and Knitting Comfortably is a Very Important Topic on our Yarn Thing podcast with Marly Bird.

[image error]By day Carson is a physical therapist who operates an award winning ergonomics program for a San Francisco medical center. Every other moment he’s knitting, spinning, designing, teaching, or otherwise up to some fiber fun – always with a watchful eye toward ergonomics. His passion and experience in fiber arts combine with his expertise in physical therapy and ergonomics to create a unique skill set that he eagerly shares with the fiber community to keep us all creating healthfully – and comfortably – ever after.

Carson teaches at knitting, spinning, and other fiber events throughout the US. He loves to teach at local yarn shops and guilds. He has written articles for TNNA and other publications, and is a regular contributor to Ply magazine.

Carson has a new book Knitting Comfortably, The Ergonomics of Handknitting.

Imagine being told you have to stop knitting because of discomfort in your hands, arms, neck, or back. Imagine the sense of frustration and the longing to get the needles back in your hands. Imagine the lingering doubt you might have when you can pick them up again: “What was I doing wrong after all these years of knitting?” “Will I get hurt again?” “Will I have to stop knitting forever to make this pain go away?” Maybe you’d like to be a faster, more efficient knitter, or a knitter who produces more projects, but you’re not sure what’s getting in the way.[image error]

This book will help you understand the ergonomics of knitting so you can improve your safety, efficiency, and productivity in knitting. You’ll learn to identify ergonomic risks that contribute to injury and reduce knitting efficiency. Throughout the book, you’ll be provided with activities and guidance to improve your knitting ergonomics so you can knit more confidently and comfortably. Through instruction in stretches, exercise, and self-care, you’ll also learn how to manage the discomfort common to knitters before it becomes an injury, and how to recognize when it’s time to seek help from a health-care professional.

Follow Carson Demers through his website: www.ErgoIKnit.com also, he can be found in Twitter and Instagram, and has a designer page in Ravelry.

If you missed getting to watch or hear this live, you can find video in Marly’s Facebook page or audio where the podcast airs: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/yarnthing/2017/04/04/carson-demers-and-knitting-comfortably
