Red Heart Yarns New STRIPES

Red Heart Yarns New STRIPES

Red Heart Yarns New STRIPES was today’s hot, Hot, HOT topic on the Yarn Thing podcast with Marly Bird, and she was joined by Red Heart Yarns own Margaret Eckman. Margaret is their Social Media Specialist and she works with the bloggers (aka Joy Creators!), gets to know the new yarns as they come out. Both she and Marly have known about this new Super Saver was coming out and had to sit on their hands, almost literally!

Super Saver is the Red Heart Yarn line that most people are aware of, it’s found in most craft stores, and often times it the yarn we hand a newbie to try out knitting or crochet. This new gradient or ombre line offers slow color changes that many of us have been craving for so long. I loved how Margaret says they have been sitting around the office looking pretty. So typical of gorgeous yarns!

Marly shared just yesterday in a blog post, complete with videos from her YouTube channel and during the video feed, she showed us the crochet Isoceles Triangle Shawl (shades of purple) and a knitted Fantastic Ripple Scarf (the multicolored). There are actually two choices, there is a gradient Ombre available in 12 colors, which takes a color and changes the tone. SO beautiful and stunning! It’s available in the whopping 10 ounce sized at 482 yards. The Stripes options are added to the Super Saver selection and they’ve added that to the selection by showing a swatch of the changes, available in the 236 yards of 4 ounces and mix really well with other colors in the Super Saver lines.

If you missed getting to see this, check out the live video that Marly posted from the Birds of a Feather Studio directly to her Facebook page or the completely audio episode from the podcast link http://www.blogtalkradio.com/yarnthing/2017/04/20/red-heart-yarns-new-stripes

Bronte Lace Shawl:

[image error]The Bronte Lace Shawl is a one size, top down shawl that can be worked to be as large as you like. Designed in a beautiful Bijou Basin Ranch yarn (Shangri-La) made of a blend of two of the softest and strongest fibers it will be the shawl that you wear again and again. Shangri-La is a combination of 50% yak down and 50% silk and is available in a variety of colors that you can pick what fits your style. This project requires only two hanks to complete.

Although this shawl can be worked to the size of your choice I designed it to be oversized. If you make the shawl larger than you need it will be the perfect piece to wrap around you like a hug.

The pattern comes with both written and charted instructions. This will make it suitable to either way your prefer to read a pattern.

[image error]Be sure to add this pattern to your Ravelry Favorites and show me your version of the Bronte Lace Shawl as you finish.

How to Knit Fantastic Ripple Scarf Easy Lace

The Fantastic Ripple Scarf is a brand new FREE pattern on Red Heart’s website. Although this knit pattern is listed as intermediate, it is a great project for beginners to expand their skills.

Along with being a new pattern, it is designed with a brand new yarn from Red Heart. Super Saver is now available in stripes. Super Saver Stripes does all of the color work for you. Looking at the finished project you would assume that there would be many ends to weave in but really this is done with one ball.

Don’t be discouraged by the intermediate skill level listed in the Fantastic Ripple Scarf pattern. If you know how to knit and purl I can walk you through the rest. By knowing how to knit and purl you can speed through the whole pattern once I show you row 3.

In row 3 you will work the lace portion of the pattern. When broken down lace is just a series of increased and decreases allowing you to keep the same number of stitches in each row. For this pattern you will start and end the row with decreases and in the middle you will have increases using yarn overs.

[image error]To help beginners learn the technique of these increases and decreases I put together a video tutorial for you. You can see this video below in this post or you can head to my YouTube channel to see all of the tutorials that I have.

Grab yourself some of Red Heart Super Saver Stripes and try the Fantastic Ripple Scarf pattern today.

How to Knit Simple Lace Triangle Shawl

NEW Pattern and NEW Yarn from Red Heart Yarns

Learn how to knit Simple Lace Triangle Shawl with the new Red Heart Ombre Yarn! Are you new to lace or a complete knitting beginner? No worries! I have a full video tutorial showing you how to do this really simple lace project.

[image error] *This post contains affiliate links. By clicking on one of these links a small portion of your purchase will go back to the blog, the price you pay will not be changed. Thank you for your support.*

Red Heart has just launched a new Super Saver yarn. Super Saver is Red Heart’s biggest selling yarn and they are stepping it up a notch with this new Ombre yarn. Many people have been loving the Cake Yarns that are out on the market but they are not a gradient yarn like this. Red Heart made the Ombre Super Saver Yarn in a generous ball size so you can make beautiful projects like this Simple Lace Triangle Shawl with just ONE ball![image error]

Super Saver Ombre yarn is a tonal yarn that gradually shifts from one color to the next. The colors in the ball are all variations of the same color. Throughout the ball the colors will go from light to dark and back again. Depending on the look you want you can choose to start your project at any of the colors. Red Heart is offering 12 colors in the Ombre yarn giving you a lot of choices.

As part of this new pattern I have put together a video tutorial to show you how to do the lace stitches. In order to make the lace you will be working increases at the wings of the shawl and down the spine. Through the video I show you all of the steps to complete this show. I also show you how to do a long tail cast on, which is my preferred cast on for this project.

A Garden of Shawls by Karen Whooley

A Garden of Shawls by Karen Whooley

A Garden of Shawls by Karen Whooley is the book we shared on Yarn Thing podcast with Marly Bird today, and crochet loveliness abounds!

[image error]Karen says: I learned to crochet at the age of 7. My Nonna (Italian for “grandmother”) taught me to crochet one summer when my younger sister and I were visiting with her.   Nonna didn’t teach me from patterns. Since she only could speak Italian, any pattern I brought her we used a magnifying glass and figured out the pattern from the photos.  I didn’t learn how to read a pattern until I taught myself in my teenage years from Leisure Arts booklets! Because I learned to crochet from photos and word-of-mouth, I have always been a designer.  Even when I could read a pattern, I always changed up the item, from construction to how it was edged, and even the stitch pattern. Just about everything I made was inspired by the patterns, not from the pattern directly.

And that is how I got started designing!  Back in 1998, I met one of my favorite designers online in an internet forum.  She saw the work that I would display on my personal website that was just basically a photo album, and convinced me to submit some original designs! [image error] The very first ones were purchased and off my design career went! After all these years, I still love designing!  Over the years I have been lucky to work with some of the best yarn and publishing companies out there. You will see my work all over.  But my heart has always been in self-publishing!  I have self-published several books over the years and more will be coming!

Karen’s new book, A Garden of Shawls includes 12 beautiful lace shawls that evoke that feeling of being in a beautiful garden.  Made with either fingering or lace weight yarns each shawl will inspire you to create your own slice of heaven.

The projects are worked using lace weight to fingering weight yarns – all from indie hand dyers – and are suitable for every crocheter who is comfortable with basic crochet stitches.  Each pattern includes charts, a special stitches section, as well as written text to help the crafter work easily and comfortably through the pattern.  The book also contains hints and information on how to adjust the shawls to work with heavier yarns and to customize a design to your personal taste.

Follow Karen Whooley through her website: www.KarenWhooley.com. There is also her Ravelry Designer page. She can be found in other social media locations as well, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. You can hear Karen’s previous visit to the Yarn Thing podcast in 2014.

If you missed getting to watch this LIVE check Marly’s Facebook page for the behind-the-scenes video from her Birds of a Feather Studio or listen to archived audio episode: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/yarnthing/2017/04/18/garden-of-shawls-by-karen-whooley

7 Months of Scrubby Fruit Washcloth Patterns

April’s theme: Fruit Washcloth Patterns

April is the second month of the 7 Months of Scrubby Campaign by Red Heart. This month they are featuring Food as the theme. On April 12th I hosted a Facebook live video about the collection on Red Hearts Facebook page. I had a lot of fun showing you some of the samples. Each month on the 12th I will host a new Facebook Live video to show you the patterns for the current month’s theme, I hope that you join me. Be sure to mark your calendars now!

*This post contains affiliate links. By clinking on one of these links and making a purchase a small portion come back to the blog, the price you pay is not changed. Thank you for your support.*

Facebook Video on Fruit Washcloth Patterns:

[image error]If you missed the Facebook Live from this month you can view it below to catch up. Some of the patterns are made with Scrubby Sparkle and others are with the basic Scrubby. You can interchange the two for any of the patterns and change the colors to match your style. Have fun picking out colors!

How to Crochet Sliced Apple Fruit Washcloth Pattern:

[image error]You will notice that the Scrubby yarn does not have definition to the stitches. This is great to hide any small mistakes that you may make along the way but, it isn’t the best for showing you how to make the piece. If you watch the tutorial that I put together for you about the Sliced Apple Scrubby you will see that I used different yarn to show you the stitches.

For more information about the pattern you can read the Sliced Apple Scrubby blog post that I put together. See my selection of video tutorials for both knit and crochet on my YouTube Channel.

Vogue Knitting’s Editor Trisha Malcolm

Vogue Knitting’s Editor Trisha Malcolm[image error]

Vogue Knitting’s Editor Trisha Malcolm visited the Yarn Thing podcast with Marly Bird. As one of the most well-known knitting periodicals, spending this kind of time with her can be precious.

Here are some trivia facts:[image error]

Vogue Knitting is not affiliated with Vogue magazine. The articles in Vogue Knitting are better anyway!
The magazine was started in 1932 and was relaunched in 1982, according to Wikipedia, currently celebrating 85 years since beginning and 35 since relaunching.
Published by SoHo Publishing and distributed by Sterling Publishing Co. We’ve featured several of those companies books like the 60 Quick series and Nicky Epstein’s.
Celebrating the milestones of Vogue Knitting, Kaffe Fassett was honored at this past January at VKLive New York with a Lifetime Achievement recognition.
Cascade Yarns’ Knitterati afghan is also honoring the milestones of Vogue Knitting and their own 30th anniversary. Other yarn companies celebrating anniversaries include Maggieknits (40 years), Lopi and Koigu (both 25 years)
Vogue Knitting Live was launched in 2011, and [image error]has visited various cities such as New York, Chicago, Minneapolis, Pasadena, and Seattle. Also, just for fun Vogue Knitting Live DESTINATIONS are smaller more intimate, the next is Camden, Maine with Mary Jane Mucklestone (April 27-30). Just a week later is another at Imperial Stock Ranch, in Maupin, Oregon with Lorilee Beltman (May 5-8).

Many of these things have been mentioned in past episodes of the Yarn Thing podcast, it’s so nice to bring them full circle. Trisha shared with Marly the first VKLive in 2010, then came back to share more with us in 2011 and in 2012 to share the 30th anniversary issue of Vogue Knitting.

If you missed getting to watch this live, the video is still available on Marly’s Facebook page, or you can listen to the archived podcast episode http://www.blogtalkradio.com/yarnthing/2017/04/13/vogue-knittings-editor-trisha-malcolm
