It's set in a new vision of the borderlands, more specifically El Paso, Texas. My biggest influences/sources of thematic resonance are Fuentes' Terra Nostra and The Death of Artemio Cruz; the lit of the Crack Generation of Mexico; Soto Zen philosophy; Sartre and Nietzsche; certain bands such as The Mars Volta, Between the Buried and Me, and King Crimson; Flannery O'Connor's aesthetic; and the fallen front men of the Seattle scene of the 90s.(less)
