Heart of Flesh - Nothing ever changes (cp2) 1/6
"So, what do you want to do? Are you going to come eat or not?"
Andrea endures his sister’s shrill and petulant voice which torments himwith the usual Saturday lunchtime question.
"Why do you have to break my balls all the time?" he mumbles
with his mouth furry from sleep. He covers his head with the cotton sheet, even
if it’s hot. It’s the end of June, and yet it seems like August.
"Because mom’s made a roast and she cared enough to let you
know," she replies. He doesn’t see her, but imagines her with her hands on
her skinny anorexic hips. "But I knew it would be useless. I heard
you…"
Andrea grabs his pillow and slips under it with a grimace. He has an
awful headache and every “a” that comes out of her mouth is like a
hammer blow to the head, and when she pronounces an “e” it’s like a
needle that goes right through him from ear to ear.
"It was six o’clock when you got back. You could have avoided
hitting against the hall cabinet, at least.” She rolls off her usual pissed
speech and he hears a foot tapping, giving rhythm to the tirade that had
just started. “What’s wrong?” she lowers the tone of the voice.
“Were you too wasted to remember where the furniture was? You woke me up!”
"Enough, for fuck’s sake!" he cries, suddenly emerging from
his refuge. He sits up and stares at her angrily.
Barbara crosses her little arms and curls up her nose and mouth; she
looks like a pug with not many wrinkles. She rubs on her pink top with a little
amicable cat face full of rhinestones. Her blonde hair is tied back in a
low ponytail. And, as he imagined, she is pointing her foot adorned with a new
ankle lace sandal as her soft miniskirt sways.
"You’re a shit!” she replies, turning on her heels. She goes out
quickly, slamming the door behind her, which resounds in his brain like a
battering ram.
Andrea clenches his fists and sucks it up. He breathes deeply twice and
lies down again.
"He’s acting like an asshole! For a change!" shouts Barbara
from the hall. And then he hears the unmistakable echo of his father’s leather
slippers approaching.
It’s not possible…he snorts.
"Andrea, can I come in?" he asks, knocking.
Why bother with this stupid act, if he comes in anyway?
"Yes," he replies impatiently as he sits back up.
