Heart of flesh - Nothing ever changes (cp2) 3/6
He stretches out his arms and legs and stands up. He moves the whitecurtain and peers out the window onto the street. The view was excellent from
the third floor. Washington Street is busy as usual, there’s also the 61
blocking traffic like a bottleneck.
The Mercedes 300-SL is down the road ahead of them: black and shiny, it
reflects the facade of the building. His father heads off straight away to put
the packs in the trunk while his mother looks up, but Andrea hides suddenly to
avoid being seen. He waits a moment, then reappears.
He manages to sees mommy’s light brown hair slip inside the car,
while his sister closes the door clutching yet another tote bag for the
Chihuahua she doesn’t have, unlike the other world famous cocksucker she
so adores.
The car leaves and his mother sticks out her arm to wave goodbye while
Barbara shows him her raised middle finger, so he can get the hint.
Andrea responds with his middle finger up, and even if she can’t see him
she knows he’s returning the gesture.
They join the column of cars and, on the first green light, they head
off.
Always the same story.
Nothing ever changes and perhaps he’s a little bit of a traditionalist
too, because he cannot help but look out whenever they leave for Clusone.
He scratches his crotch grabbing onto a flap of his boxers. He’s not
hungry, he doesn’t have much of an appetite because of the cocaine the night
before, but maybe a nice café latte would be good.
He goes into the dining room passing through the dim corridor, the
natural light filters through the French windows of the living room which is
suffocated by plants. It’s almost like a greenhouse. Fortunately, the TV is
isolated.
He goes directly to the coffee machine and turns it on. He checks
there’s water and, as he waits, raises the shutter completely. He then inserts
the “cappuccino” pod and puts a large cup under the spout. He would
like to take a Tylenol for his headache, but doesn’t feel like adding another
chemical to his body. He wants to do the same again tonight, so he keeps
himself clean.
The cappuccino comes out; he takes some fresh milk from the refrigerator
and adds some. He sits at the table, perpetually prepared with bread, biscuits
and various bowls.
There’s also a card placed on a glass dish covered by a towel. It’s his
mother’s handwriting, which reads: “I left you some of the roast I know
you like so much. Kisses. Mom. “
He sighs holding it in his hand; he squeezes it until it turns into a
ball that he drops nearby.
Roast is important. Small everyday things are fundamental…right,
mommy?
The first sip is bitter. He adds some sugar, even if the label says sweet,
but it’s normal after having coke to have your sense of flavor altered.
He drinks some more and this time it’s better. He remains in silence all
the while until he hears the arrival of a text message on his smartphone.
He snorts. “Who is it now!”
He goes back into his room and looks for his cell in his jeans’ pocket
that have been thrown on the ground.
It’s from George; he says he has to talk to him because there’s been a
problem with his girlfriend’s friend. To call him, as soon as he can.
Andrea quickly shakes his head. “Who gives a fuck?” he
mutters, going back to his cappuccino.
