PAINFUL STEPS

autumn-walk-1792812_960_720

Steps

They are important

They carry you

From point A

To point B

From the start

To the end

From danger

To safety

From pain

To….

Steps

They are important

But they can’t

Rid your heart

Of the pain

That stays

Always

INEVITABLY

road-908176_960_720

Beginnings are sneaky

You can avoid them

But the chaos finds ways

To wrap them up

Disguising them in nerves

And butterflies

And swimming thoughts

Lacing them in hopes

And icing them with dreams

But underneath everything

They hide nasty secrets

Covered so cleverly

In sparkles and glitter

Ribbons and bows

It is hard to find its existence

And by the time you do

You are so tangled in ribbon

You can’t escape

The secret is right there

You can avoid it for awhile

But it is right there waiting

Teeth bared, claws out

Waiting for its turn

To have its say

Inevitably you will find

The end

INTO THE WORLD

almond-744178_960_720

If we were vines

I would wrap around you

And I would strengthen you

You would grow higher

More sturdy and sure

And you would bloom

And I would bloom

Together

We would bloom

But as most vines do

You would also be free

To branch out

And see what there is

Of a world so very big

Freely and without thought

You would grow yourself

Persistently and obsessively

Farther from me

Into the world

Spreading your beauty

But…

I have your foundation

And I will always hold tight

Watching as you grow

More beautiful

Into the world

MOLDY CHEESE

overgrown-with-mold-1693929_960_720

Fat bullets stand aimed and ready

To pierce holes in dissenting viewpoints

Marching in a depressed state of silence

And cut down by the hopeless rhetoric

The core of humanity will become restless

It will chime in chorus over rooftops

And cough up the poisonous ideologies

The phlegm made up of failed policies and

The virus laden mucus contaminated with lies

They will purge themselves from the beast

That for decades fed them their education

And paid less than half price for their services

That subdued them into believing

They should vow loyalty to a system

Controlled by phantom strings

That they should walk into the trap

Full of confidence that the cheese

Is of the best quality

And worth dying for

Humanity will grow tired of moldy cheese

And they will fight for better sustenance

Eventually

ARMAGEDDON

skull-657477_960_720

Sand falls from the sky

Scouring the oxygen and

Melting under the heat

Of the far too bright sun

The grit scrubs our faces

Until we are sinewy

Muscled skeletons

Turning our bones

Into prisms of glass

One false step and we fall

Covering the ground

In colorful shards of

Reflective mirrors

Until the world looks

As if it’s covered

In a blinding display

Of reversed laser

Lightning strikes

Our last song together

A rock ballad

Without an encore

A light show

For the heavens

Even the most distant

Planet cannot ignore

INSIDE YOUR EYES

111eye-240843_640

I see my future

Inside your eyes

A predictable universe spinning

Prying, preaching, reaching

Narrow vision tunneling towards

The very center of my core

Pulling me from this black hole

Into a world full of sparkling stars

Inking hopeful fantasies

Into detailed maps

Where destinations

Are drawn and colored

My new reality

Reflecting back at me

TRIGGERS

dead-end-1529593_960_720

Certain names

Just the spelling of them

Or the places you see them

Or the context which they’re placed

Make you want to slit your wrists

Certain scenes

Remind you that you are garbage

A piece of trash, disposable, used

A pile of shit to be carefully avoided

Or even worse

Turn you into the invisible man

Certain sounds

Make your head spin like a carnival ride

You try to breathe but you can’t

You can’t because the moment stole it

You curl up into a ball and wait for it to stop

Certain smells

Remind you of your insecurities

Of the pain that will never ever disappear

Of the scars that will never ever heal

Certain touch

Turns your body into a diving board

Rigid and spring loaded to run

Fueling your nervous energy

Threatening to short circuit your heart

Certain moments

You realize you are a walking time bomb

And you wish you could detonate

To just get it over with because…

It’s the only way to guarantee its death

BLACK FEAR a true story

surprised-1327192_960_720

Her eyes flew open

And black fear

Sprang to life and jumped

From her pupils

Adrenaline pumped

Fast and hard

Into every breathing cell

Supercharging them

Killing some with demands

Animating her still body

Into a pliable marionette

She threw off the covers

Texted her boss an apology

And high-tailed her arse

Adrenaline still pumping

Out her front door

And off to work

Nearly an hour late

Sigh

UNTIL THE END OF TIME

hourglass-620397_960_720.

I could write a million words.

Pick up my pen every single day.

Let every emotion spill on to the page until the end of time.

And I still wouldn’t be able to capture how much you mean to me.
