“I used to feel so alone in the city. All those gazillions of people and then me, on the outside. Because how do you meet a new person? I was very stumped by this for many years. And then I realized, you just say ‘Hi.’ They may ignore you. Or you may marry them. And that possibility is worth that one word.”

★ DAILY CHARACTER QUESTION ★

I Can’t Let You Do That

Pick one of your secondary characters:

This character did something in the past, and they still regret it. What is it? Write a scene where they witness someone about to make that same mistake.

How would you start off a story? I know this is a very broad question, but I'd like to know what and how you would begin.

This is… indeed a very broad question :p

But, I get your sentiment. There is this unspoken expectation the success of a book is balanced on the first line, or on the very first sentences. Of course, that is silly. I have never met any writer, or reader, worth respecting who closed a book based on the very first line.

Personally, I can’t even wrap my head around that concept. It’s like walking up to a person, hearing the way they greet you and go "I’m sorry I see this relationship is not going t...

maxkirin:

Good morning, writerly friends~ ♥︎

We are half-way through November, and I felt I needed to sit down and offer a few words of inspiration to everyone doing NaNoWriMo! I know it’s been a really tough month, especially for those of you attempting this challenge for the first time, but trust me when I say this… NaNoWriMo is not about the word count, it’s about something greater than 50,000 words.

I hope this helps! :D

hey! so i've been outlining my book and one of my characters, who has had to provide for her sister and herself her entire life, is supposed to be kinda rude and mean. but she's not really acting that way toward another character, and i feel like she shoul

Hello there, writerly friend~✿

I have touched on this subject in the past, but allow me to elaborate! You see, the funny thing about characters is that… well, just like you never know a person until you meet them, you never know a character until you write them.

I mean it.

Have you considered that maybe — just maybe — this character doesn’t want to be rude to this person that she just met? I know that some writers may read that and call it heresy, but really consider the question.

Do you think yo...
