The Balance Sample Chapters Posted on Wattpad, too

I posted the first four chapters of The Balance on Wattpad.

The Balance is a Young-Adult novel set in a Dystopian world in the future, about 200 years after a global nuclear war wiped out most of the human population.

Prior to the war, two organizations planned for the future and were able to salvage and resurrect a civilization in a place called The Land. These two organizations were: The Council of God (with its religious origins) and The Order (with its science and technological roots). The two collaborated and cooperated in an uncomfortable alliance for well over 100 years before the Great Revelation and the comet. In the chaos that followed The Council seized control and killed or drove the Order into hiding. Phoebe, the last product of the engineered human programs brought to light in the Revelation is hiding in the open, despite the danger to herself. The remnants of the Order want to save and exploit her. They seek The Balance.

This book is planned for release by Woodland Park Press later this year.

4 Chapters are available now and a 5th will be posted later this week.

Here at home, I put plants into the greenhouse I fashioned under the deck on the front side of my house—it faces south. But of course the weather is turning colder this week, dropping back into the low 20′s at night and only reaching the upper 30′s and mid 40′s during the day.  So, I’ve put a heater in the space—it’s not really air tight, but the temperature is always higher than outside. Unfortunately, by sealing things up, I displaced a couple of feral cats that had been using the space. But relax, they keep several homes in the neighborhood. I was a little reluctant to close their home here since they probably helped keep some of the smaller critters in check. Of course they don’t manage the deer, foxes, bears, or other animals that live near my house. I’m in Woodland Park, in the Pike National Forest, so there are plenty of animals around, which is why I needed something like this to have a small garden. It just snowed last night again, we’re at an 8500 ft. elevation and it can snow well into May.

I’ve askedAmazon to reduce the price of the Kindle version of The Boy Who Ran to $2.99 US from $4.99 US for the next several weeks.  I also reduced the match price— the price you pay for the kindle version add-on if you bought the paperback version through  Amazon  to $0.99 US.

It will take approximately 12 hours before the price change takes effect.

The Balance Chapter 3 Posted on line

I’ve posted a fourth chapter of THE BALANCE on my web site.

The Balance is a Young Adult book set in the future.

The survivors of a global thermonuclear war rebuilt a life in a place called The Land. The recovery was made possible through the actions of two groups. One group was The Council of God, intent on avoiding the mistakes of the past by engendering a simpler agricultural lifestyle and by maintaining faith. The second group, called The Order, was a technology organization, intent on saving what it could of the advances mankind had made, creating living time capsules for the future.

For over one hundred years the two groups managed to work together in an uncomfortable alliance. The Balance was maintained until the three Engineered Human Programs were revealed. The result was a witch hunt that drove The Order out of power and into hiding, and hunted down to kill what the Council called ”demons” —the products of the genetics programs.

Phoebe, a seventeen year old girl, was overlooked during the purge and was the last creation of genetic Sensitives program. She tries to hide her gifts while living and hiding in the Theocracy that emerged after The Purge. Most technology has been banned, being caught with a forbidden object can land you in prison, or worse. Phoebe wants to overcome the curse she was born with, and which threatens her sanity, to live a normal life.

The survivors of the Order were driven underground. Its members are seeking a way to re-establish The Balance of power, and to change  the anti-technology regime that emerged after the Purge. They see Phoebe as key to achieving their goals, but aren’t sure they can keep her alive and don’t know if she’ll cooperate.
