I've been writing novels since I was eight years old (though the first few were admittedly very short). A college teacher by day, I've published numerous works of science fiction and fantasy: the Querry Genn Saga (SURVIVAL COLONY 9 and SCAVENGER OF SOULS), the deep-space adventure FREEFALL, and the 4-part Ecosystem Cycle (ECOSYSTEM, THE DEVOURING LAND, HOUSE OF EARTH, HOUSE OF STONE, and THE LAST SENSOR). In my free time, I love to read, watch movies, and spend time in Nature with my kids.

Oh, yeah, and I like monsters. Really scary monsters.

YA Guy Introduces ... A VERY SMALL CHILD CALLED EUGENE!

Years ago, before YA Guy was YA Guy, I wrote a science fiction short story about the rise of a white supremacist United States. It was published in a small journal, and I thought nothing of it until a few years later, when the rise of the #BlackLivesMatter movement brought increased attention to racism in our society and criminal justice system. I decided to expand the story to novel length, k Read more of this blog post »

The start of a new series! Always an exciting moment.

This one combines action, horror, sci-fi, and romance--people have been calling it THE FIFTH WAVE meets 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE. If that sounds like your kind of thing, check it out!

"This book was an absolute roller coaster of emotions and made me fall in love with the fantasy/sci-fi genre again. I haven’t read fantasy in years, so I wasn’t sure if I would get into but immediately I was drawn into this world that could be earth’s" Read more of this review »

Reviewing one's own book is weird, so let me just give you some background on the story:

When I originally conceived the Ecosystem books, I had a trilogy in mind. But after I finished Book 3, I still felt as if I had more story to tell, or maybe I jus
